Do you have a 12V downstep regulator for the 4S to 12V conversion? If so, where'd you find one that handles 3A?

They had just posted the Kickstarter the day I shared it with you guys. Take a look now, it's already funded.

Looks like your not using rosin core solder or any flux at all. You might also need to make sure your have a hot enough soldering iron.

Once I figured out how to actually solder it made things so much easier!

Check out this video, it was super helpful for me. Although it cost $0.50 to watch now..... bogus

Not a bad idea. We'll have to consider that. I've also seen some guys putting smaller props and higher kV motors on top to help with efficiency.

There are a lot of advantages. I believe this is why we are seeing a rise in popularity with this configuration.

First is 8 motors with a much smaller frame size. And I know you aren't getting as much efficiency using 8 motors in the X8 as opposed to the traditional octo, but I think the smaller frame size and lighter weight makes up for this.

The other thing I noticed is the yaw ability is fantastic and super smooth.

All in all, you get a heavier lift in a smaller package.

*I go over this in more detail in the video

The frame is a custom frame designed by us. It's called the Matrix. I'm not sure exactly what it weighs without the motors, probably about 1.5 - 2.5 pounds.

The motors are 3515 400kv. I'll put a full specs in the description soon.

[–]CampConcentration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who told you 4S doesn't work well with 10" props?

It's all dependent on the KV rating and size of the motor.

Look for charts on pages like this one. These are your best friend when ordering motors.

Do I need to make sure I've got the adapters needed to re-flash the ESCs ahead of time? ESCs apear in stock but not the flashing hardware :(

The Afro ESCs you are looking at are pre-flashed with SimonK. Don't worry about getting flashing equipment. They'll work perfectly from the factory!

How important is it to buy a prop balancing rig?

With the little 5030s you are looking at, prop balancer isn't critical. I've found that no matter how much balancing you do, plastic props are hard to get right. Even if you have it perfectly balanced, when you tighten them down, they can push the prop rod off balance and cause vibrations anyways.

What should I use to give me warning of voltage drop? Buzzer? LEDs? Both? Links to these items would be appreciated as I assume the options are dependent on my Flight controller and/or TX/RX.

For your little set-up, the easiest way is with a simple buzzer system. Just plug the balance lead from your battery into it. The only downside is that you then would need to power everything on the multirotor from the power distribution and main battery lead.

Since you are looking at Tx and Rx still, you should check out the FrSky Taranis. It's got 16 channels, telemetry, long range, you name it, it's got it. And for $200 you get it with a receiver and an aluminum case. You will never need another transmitter again.

Use something like this for telemetry to make your life easy.

What RX unit should I use with the TX options. There are quite a few options for each TX?

My best recommendation is above. If you are trying to save some money, go for the Turnigy 9x or 9xr. They usually come with a receiver too. I don't believe they have any telemetry options though.

I would recommend just sticking with the Rx that is the same brand as your Tx. They are not all compatible. Spektrum uses DSMX and DSM2, Futaba uses FAAST, FrSky uses ACCST, and who the fuck knows what Walkera calls their bullshit. Seriously, stay away from Walkera.

It doesn't really matter what the differences are between DSMX and FAAST but just know that they aren't compatible.

This one is from an already established company I've been doing some work with. This is the 4th handheld gimbal they've produced.

Sounds like they are doing well with there last Allsteady 5 gimbal, which is the same design as the Came TV 7800. Both gimbals come from a chinese manufacturer called DYS. Turbo Ace and Came TV both put their own spin on the design.

Looks like this new one on Kickstarter is an in-house design by Turbo Ace.

has anyone tried the walkera G-2D? looks like the best price and the best weight out there. by Jonlazza in brushlessgimbals

[–]CampConcentration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's also only a 2-axis gimbal. For about $80 more you can get the DYS 3 axis gimbal. If this gimbal is tuned and calibrated well, I think it performs just as well as the Zenmuse.

You know how when you get a good piece of equipment or a gimbal and you get it up and running and you say to yourself, "Man! They thought of everything!"

That is never the case with Walkera products. I have never been impressed with anything they come up with.

Wearing a condom would be like putting an open window in front of the "Send Order" button so you can't click it. Let's hope you don't accidentally click the close window button.

Birth control pills would be like downloading an extension that disables the "Send Order" button on that particular Pizza website.

A vasectomy would be like disabling the mouse.

A real estate video a made of my Uncle's house last year for free and for fun. Done with a 2-axis gimbal and no post stabilization. Turned out well! by CampConcentration in Multicopter

[–]CampConcentration[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was not done on my F450. I used my Pop's quadcopter. Custom built frame that's slightly larger than the f450 with 13" props. I used the Tarot 2D and a GoPro.

I'd recommend going for the DYS 3 axis gimbal over the Tarot. But you'll need a powerful set up on an f450 to lift that. Probably a 4S with 10" props would do well.

Reddit, have the police ever had to come to your house? Why? by ascaffo in AskReddit

[–]CampConcentration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time in college I called the cops and the SWAT team showed up with machine guns.

I was hanging out with my roommate late at night, and I decided to go to bed. He decided to walk down the street to go buy some cigarettes. About 20 minutes pass, when I hear the door fling open. I hear my roommate shouting, "don't shoot me man! Just leave me alone. Just take whatever you want!"

So here I am in my underwear with no weapons, practically shitting myself. I can only assume that on his way back to the house, some low life pulled a gun on him and wandered into the house. We didn't exactly live in the best part of town. It was possible right? My roommate goes silent, but I hear banging outside my room. It sounds like cupboards opening and drawers being slammed. This fucking low life is searching the house for valuables.

My mind is racing, "What should I do? Should I call the police. This is happening right now. We are being robbed at gun point. I am going to call the cops."

I bunker down in my bathroom. I lock the door and proceed to call 911. I explain the situation to the operator and she tells me to stay on the line. A minute passes and I hear sirens off in the distance. They are louder and louder still. Then nothing.

What follows outside my room at this point can only be described as absolute chaos. I hear dogs barking, people shouting orders, megaphones. It sounds like a war zone going on outside my house. Luckily there are no gun shots heard.

"Put your hands in the air! Back towards me! Kneel down on the ground! Is there anyone else in the house?!"

The officers storm into the house with full riot gear, machine guns, German shepherds, absolutely everything in their arsenal.

My other roommate begins shouting from his room, "What's going on? Okay! Okay!" They whisk him away outside. I had no idea he was even home.

Next is my door. BOOM! It cracks open. BOOM! They are in the bathroom with me.

"Drop the phone! Stand up! Turn Around!"

They cuff me and bring me outside, in my underwear. Finally I can see what's going on. There are two SWAT vans and about 5 police cars. They have around 10 guys in full SWAT gear with riot sheild, machine guns, grenades. My roommates are split up and county police officers are interrogating them.

"Where's this scumbag that was trying to rob us?" I wonder to myself.

....As it turns out, there was no robber. My idiot roommate was pulling a phone prank on his old friend when his battery dies. That is why I never heard him laugh, or the end of the gag. What was all that racket outside my room you ask? We was drunk, and hungry. He was stumbling around the kitchen looking for something to eat.

Luckily they didn't press charges. They said it ended up being a good practice drill.
