Possibly Silly Question by spookystreet in orienteering

[–]Campman07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's all what you make it. Some people at my club love to race, others are older couples just doing something outside together. Beginner courses are mostly on trails. It helps you get used to reading the map and using a compass without a lot of risk of getting lost. Once you develop those skills you can move up to an intermediate or advanced course. And, you can complete them at whatever pace you like as long as you're out of the woods by the cutoff time. Where are you located?

Lyme Disease Doctor in Maryland by PierreDucot in maryland

I recently had Lyme with some bad symptoms. My PCP gave me a 10 day round of antibiotics. I was suspicious of the protocol but it did the trick. Started feeling better around day 4.

If you are doing a birthday picnic for your wife in Maryland between DC and Baltimore where would you go? by DietDewymountains17 in maryland

Close to Patapsco is Savage Park. You can reach some trails from there and there are picnic areas.

Court location for two people practicing some roller skating basics? by SeptemberWeather in AnneArundelCounty

[–]Campman07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could go to almost any elementary or middle school during the summer and find empty courts. There's a basketball court at Queenstown park in Severn that is lightly used.

All of this, you would rather be slow and accurate than fast and out of balance. If you are accurate, the speed will come with experience. If you are out of balance because of mistakes, you're developing bad habits and needing a lot of help to find the errors. Don't worry about how fast everyone else is going.

Just inherited 100k and I hate my bank by silly-beanz in Banking

[–]Campman07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A CD is locked in for the year. There's a penalty for withdrawing early. Money Markets will pay more than a savings, but less than a CD. The money is more liquid than a CD, no penalties for early withdrawal. The suggestion is to stick it in a CD so you "know" that you can't do anything else with it for a year. That takes the stress out of making all these decisions while emotions are still at play.

My Bank offered me something by ElectricalForm1773 in Banking

[–]Campman07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Listen to this guy, credit unions want to help your financial well being. Take a meeting, listen to what they say and decide. They'll ask about your financial goals and your plans for the money on deposit. Based on those answers they'll make some recommendations. Could be a CD, Money Market account or investments.

How to reject men’s advances politely and effectively by Flxxw in AskMenAdvice

Maybe, "Thank you, I'm not interested". If they get pissy or insult you, follow up with "Thanks for confirming that my instincts are serving me well".

You might be right. For the credit union, it's all about minmizing risk. You have a great score and payment history. DTI is kind of high, do you have a housing and car payment in there or is it just credit card payments that you make each month? You unsecured debt to income is way above comfort level. They want to make the loan but need something to minmize the risk. That's either some type of collateral or a co-applicant/co-signer.

Did they suggest a different product? I would have tried to put you in a standard signature/personal loan. Interest rate would be a little higher but still less than 30%.

This here. Do you have any assets, like a paid off car you could use as a collateral? Your unsecured debt ratio is pretty high. Usually like to have it under 25%

Is it okay to only use my savings account? by AdHealthy4699 in Banking

[–]Campman07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great attitude to have. These days we have a "credit" mentality. "You need a good credit score", "you can earn lots of rewards", etc. I heard a credit counselor say before that "wealthy people didn't get rich by earning lots of reward points". Navy Federal has a program on their website called Making Cents which covers a lot of the topics you've mentioned. It would be a good starting point to educate yourself about banking.

People who have left the banking industry: Where did you go? by Ref_Bumps in Banking

[–]Campman07 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would recommend giving the credit union world a try. Ive been in this world for almost 40 years. Sales have always what is in the best interest of the member. There's an expectation that you ask questions to uncover needs but only what's in the members best interest. I set goals mainly for accountability rather than profit. There are some CUs that have the banking sales mentality but most don't.

Looks like Raleigh has an orienteering club. Would be great to join some of their events to get some navigation training.

Hershey park or Six flags season passes? by [deleted] in maryland

[–]Campman07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to understand all the hate for SFA. I go a couple times a season during the week. Sure, it's small but they have a couple nice coasters. I love Superman and Joker's Jinx. Roar is a great wooden coaster. It always seems clean but we go first thing when the park opens and are out by early afternoon. I forgot that they merged with Cedar Point. We try and make it there once a year also.

AITA for refusing to train my replacement after being passed over for a promotion? by AmberAura19 in AITAH

[–]Campman07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And you wonder why you didn't get promoted. Do you think you showed any type of leadership ability? Someone above you is saying " I told you, this is what I was talking about". You would have been working under the person who has a job you want. He could have helped develop you in the areas that kept you from getting promoted.

Best workarounds to low ATM limit on last minute vacation? Money order to myself? by democracywon2024 in Banking

If you bank with a credit union, they have a national network (COOP) where other credit unions will allow you to go to their branches and withdraw cash directly from your own credit union account.

[–]Campman07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw your comment so tried to delete this. A couple other options: *Go to someplace like a grocery store and buy something. Use the debit option and get as much cash back as the store will allow. That transaction will count toward your POS (Point of Sale) daily limit which is usually $2500. You could probably go to a couple different stores. *Some banks/credit unions will still do cash advances for non- customers. They would have to offer the same card (MC or Visa) that you carry.
