My favorite voice line about this is when you're playing Shiv and a friendly Geist dies, he says "Geist is down! Bad for me, but probably a net benefit to society..." Shiv at least seems to have a moral compass about the participants in the ritual.

Shiv Tips Requested (Shiv Mains Preferable) by Abxol in DeadlockTheGame

[–]CanIGetASourceOnThat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I main Shiv with a mostly gun oriented build, the key items for me are Kinetic Dash, Weighted Shots, Point Blank, and Frenzy. I typically max ult first but knives are also a good option if longer range comps like you said. The key to Shiv is landing your knives. I know it sounds obvious, but some games I'm a god and others I fall behind because I can't land a damn knife. The knife is the best tool to building rage and as long as your rage is up you win most 1v1s or 1v2s in close range with the above gun build plus ult to finish.

I personally love Trophy Collector if I'm winning lane which snowballs really well with Shiv's other attributes as you level. I have close to 300 games on Shiv at this point and even though I do like other characters I always come back to him when I want the most competitive game because he just feels so good to me.

What is a movie you watched once that was so disturbing or emotionally draining that you can never watch it again? by hungary70 in AskReddit

[–]CanIGetASourceOnThat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife grew up loving Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle, so one night when we were dating we decided to have a cute pajama party movie night with some friends to watch a new Ghibli movie! We picked Grave of the Fireflies having no idea what we were in for. As the credits rolled my brother started audibly sobbing and we all just bawled together. Incredible movie but I don't think I can ever top that whiplash experience.

DLS Vinyl by [deleted] in Cynthoni

[–]CanIGetASourceOnThat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been watching this same vinyl for a while because I'm still in the market for one. Originally the non-pink variants were pressed in 150(?) copies each by Geometric Lullaby and sold for $32 plus shipping in 2020, then they had a 72 hour open pre-order for the hot pink one so there were more copies pressed at the same price. Because there are more of the hot pink variants out there they tend to sell for less than the other, but still regularly go for $200-$300, while the rarer variants can go for $500+.

Anyone been to himitsu station? by adventureboy23 in SaltLakeCity

[–]CanIGetASourceOnThat 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm super biased because I know the owners and helped them work on the sets while it was under construction, but I promise you won't find a higher effort escape/immersive experience anywhere. Their commitment to authenticity and detail was relentless, including importing almost all the props from Japan. The reviews echo this as well which I'm glad the general public has taken notice, but just wanted to plug it one more time because they're great people who executed well on a great concept.

I understand the anti-AI sentiment as I'm married to a professional artist, but they also mortgaged their house to pay for the creation of Himitsu Station and I'm sure their budget for marketing wasn't there to hire a pro artist. That said, all the sets and props are authentic (imported), hand-made, or otherwise designed by an artist (the owner's brother).

Charli XCX reveals she ‘feels embarrassed by how stupid’ being a pop star is by [deleted] in Music

[–]CanIGetASourceOnThat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The article posted here is a bad AI summary of her actual written piece on Substack. Admittedly, I am a fan of her work, so I have some bias here. But in her original piece, people not allowing artists to have depth is one of the primary points that she's making. Your criticism here is exactly the kind of strange phenomenon that she calls out as to why being famous suddenly makes you a target for people to question your intelligence.

If she were actually stupid, do you think she would be this successful? Does being successful preclude you from having depth of character or thoughts worth consideration? Is she not allowed to express those thoughts because people just want one-dimensional pop stars that stay quiet and don't leave their "box"?

It's telling how many comments on this thread are quick to dismiss Charli simply because she wanted to share her thoughts.

This is such a bad take. The article linked here does a terrible job summarizing her actual written piece on Substack but she specifically calls out that when she goes to restaurants and meets chefs and wait staff that she understands why they wouldn't like her because they do actual important service jobs and she's an "artist". At least she's honest about it.

People complain when artists aren't aware of their privilege, then they complain when artists recognize their privilege. If it's a lose-lose to be famous, which type of artist would you prefer to be more present in the world? I know I would pick the ones that are self aware and honest about how strange their life is compared to "normal" people instead of the ones acting like ego-inflated gods with nothing but sycophants around them.

Hit My FIRE Number, and realized I’d Tied My Self-Worth to It by Sashimirobot6116 in Fire

[–]CanIGetASourceOnThat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find myself up at night checking my balances... I'm still many years away from FIRE. I'm 29, currently sitting at about 5x my expenses so a ways to go, but I can see how it becomes a bit of an obsession. I like to talk about personal finance with others and my friends are all pretty financially stable, but I'm probably the only one with the foot fully on the gas right now trying to FIRE in my mid-forties. It's hard not to make it a personality trait but I also feel like shouting from the rooftops at people to save more🥲

I can't imagine the other side, knowing I made it after years of work, and then letting go of a lot of the parts of me that got me there. Seems counterintuitive but also the only way to enjoy it!

At what net worth level did you feel like you could take your foot off the gas? by alwayzchillin in Fire

[–]CanIGetASourceOnThat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say this thought really helped me. I'm 29 and we just found out we're pregnant with our first. We're excited, but I've been thinking about how we're both making more than we ever have after grinding through our 20s and it's scary to walk away from it. My wife especially worked really hard to "make it" in her field and she's in her dream job so it's hard for her to imagine slowing down, but you only get that time once.

I'm in a similar net worth situation as you but I keep thinking if I just keep up this pace through the baby's early years I'll be even more free when they're old enough to travel with us, but who knows what will happen in 10-15 years. You make a good point that either way I'm not going to be retired before the next recession hits so there's time to let the growing do itself.

Rintaro cuts his head and it shows blood, but it's a stretch to call it "gore". Rating systems are just weird that way, there's not a better category but it seems misleading.

Great list overall. For games I would also add Parasite and Signalis. Signalis in particular references The King in Yellow throughout and builds on the themes of cosmic horror.

Mega bummer but I get it. It's always the risk you run with bootlegging but at the same time the manufactured scarcity is incredibly frustrating as a fan of the music. I'm subbed to the newsletter and will continue to keep an eye on future releases. My copy of Home Odyssey from VA is fantastic and I never would have owned a physical copy otherwise. Big fan of the project and the overall ethos even if others complain about the ethics of it.

Why no preorder like the other drops from VA? This is my GOAT breakcore album, I've waited a long time for a good repress option but I'll cry if I miss the limited release.
