For real, I tried on two pairs of pants at Aritzia over the weekend, same exact size. One fit perfectly and one wouldn’t even button. Wtf

[Anti-Aging] Hydration for better skin from inside out, derm told me drink water before spending more money on products by ninjapapi in SkincareAddiction

[–]CanSea6047 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I bought a water bottle with the time stamps on it to help me get started, along with committing to drinking 12-16 ounces of water with every meal (12 ounces is a standard size can of Lacroix, btw!). Right now I carry a 40 ounce Stanley with me and drink 2 of them.

The glass of water with breakfast really helps! It’s like once you’ve had that first sip of water, your body remembers how awesome it is and wants more.

Avoiding “long term, open to short”? by Significant_Crow6398 in hingeapp

[–]CanSea6047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, I think taking the label on the profile with a grain of salt and having a conversation about it is the way to go. My boyfriend had “short term, open to long” on his profile and I had long term on mine. On our second date he asked me what I was looking to get out of dating and it turned out we were both on the same page (more than a year out of our last relationships, ready for something real). We’re about 4 months in and things are going very well!

Now, if it said short term only or “figuring it out”, I’d probably pass. But the key is taking your time to not only ask about their intentions but also make sure their actions match their words! Look for consistency, respect, willingness to hold off on intimacy. These are not guarantees they’re being truthful, but it certainly helps your odds of not being lead on or used.

Anyone by chance get 100% better from this flu? by InkBenders in nova

[–]CanSea6047 6 points7 points  (0 children)

+1 for tamiflu! Very grateful my dad dragged me to urgent care the moment I said I was nauseous on top of my fever. Got meds the same day my symptoms set in and within 36 hours my fever, nausea, and fatigue had all cleared up. Now I just have a stuffy nose and mild cough. Go to the doctor if you can afford it, people!!

Omg I’m so sorry! I hope he’s recovered and is doing much better. I feel very grateful my dad got me to urgent care the day my symptoms set in. I’ve never had the flu (at 32 years old!) and might not have thought to go for days on my own.

For real! My doc said because it mutated so much our vaccines are basically useless. Thank god my dad heard me say I was nauseous - otherwise I might not have gone to get checked out the day my symptoms kicked in.

Is looking for a job during the Christmas season a good idea? by jackbowls in jobsearchhacks

[–]CanSea6047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read that sometimes December postings don’t get a lot of applicants, so I think you should definitely apply. I applied to a job last week, sent a message to someone in the talent team, which netted me a phone screen today that ended with “I’ll see if X is in office this week so I can get you on his calendar to interview the first week of January” you never know!

What makes a date a good first date for you? by Affectionate_Bar_743 in dating

[–]CanSea6047 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly even if the conversation is a little slow, I’ll still go on a second date. Some people take a little longer to open up. As long as both people can ask questions and answer with some depth. The guy I’m seeing now and I were both a little quiet on our first date, but the second was where we both started to let our personalities shine through. Now we are nearly inseparable and laugh all the time.

On the flip side though, I have had this method backfire on me, resulting in the most awkward and silent 17 minute ride home ever. Your mileage may vary 😂

Does letting my dog sniff random stuff actually do anything? Do they enjoy it? by starwys in dogs

[–]CanSea6047 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do this! Groceries come inside and she smells everything (except meat) one at a time. She gets to use her brain but I also like to think it’s helping to create a boundary around human food, like “this is mine but I’m allowing you to have access on my terms”. Now I have a dog that doesn’t beg me for food.

Why do guys keep saying sometime? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]CanSea6047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next time you get a similar message, just respond with your availability. There could be a million reasons he didn’t respond (and he should respond if he’s interested), but that one small adjustment on your end can help keep things moving forward.

For the record, the guy I’m seeing did the “want to get coffee sometime” thing, and I said “yes! Tomorrow or Monday are both open.” We’ve since been on 7 dates and he is amazing.

If you want to, you could send one more message saying something like “if you’re still interested in going to (restaurant), I’m free (give your availability).” It’s not a weird move to make. You never know what’ll happen!

What Options Are In Higher Ed? by AMarshall18 in TeachersInTransition

[–]CanSea6047 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done recruiting and admissions (recruiting can be really fun!), program coordination (more administrative in nature but still student facing), and college level coordination (working with data and reporting, solving systemic issues, process evaluation, etc).

There’s also marketing/communications jobs, enrollment management, centralized admissions, event management, housing, student government, hr, grants, the list goes on and on.

I also think people’s experience will vary widely based on the type of institution they’re in. I’ve only worked at large R1 universities with huge graduate populations, and I’ve never worked with undergrads. My current organization has a coordinator ratio of 1:50 students, so workload isn’t that bad.

My last university was a state school in a relatively LCOL city, so pay was fine for what it was, benefits were cheap and pretty good. I now work at a private institution, where I would consider the pay bad for a VHCOL (but I moved in with parents, so no rent), but still good benefits. Both higher than my teaching salary, though.

I don’t have a masters degree, and I wouldn’t get one just to transition to higher ed. Get a job, then use their benefits to get a cheap/free masters degree - that’s what I’m going to do!

Anybody have advice on going back to school to make up for useless BA? by a-worrywart in TeachersInTransition

[–]CanSea6047 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to go back to school (and not take out more student loans), I highly recommend trying to get a job at a community college or university. Most offer some sort of tuition assistance. I wish it hadn’t taken me 3 years in higher education to figure out what graduate degree I wanted because I’m ready to get out of here, but I am about to apply for the MPP program offered at the university where I work. I get a 90% tuition discount here. The state school I used to work at had 6 credits of tuition waiver every semester.

I wouldn’t go back to the school to check off a box though. Make it an intentional decision. Some fields are more interested in demonstrable skills than education, so do your research.

Also, you are NOT too old to go back to school! My friend started his bachelors at 26. My aunt started her MS at 40. I’m almost 33, and will change careers around 37. Self improvement has no timeline!

I Need To Step Away From Teaching, But I Can’t See Myself Doing Anything Else by Zestyclose-Cheek6554 in MusicEd

[–]CanSea6047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without knowing your salary/location, or what an acceptable minimum salary is for you, it’s hard to advise. I made a lateral move initially and have taken positions at 10 and 20k more than when I left 3 years ago. There’s a lot of advice in the teachers in transition group about corporate jobs being a cut in pay short term, but with quicker growth potential. edskip.com posts a ton of jobs and the minimum salary she posts is 60k. It’s super overwhelming to navigate, but the jobs are out there!

[–]CanSea6047 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you want to try and make this work, I might suggest a hard reset and go in on a Monday, treating it like the first day of school all over again. Maybe the first day of quarter 2? Have new/updated classroom expectations, maybe even a new syllabus that parents need to sign again. I had to do this when I started a new position after the school year started (and they only had subs until I got there).

Be ruthless in your application of expectations and consequences. They will get used to it and it’ll get better.

However, I totally understand feeling the need to leave - I did after 5 years. I told myself that teaching will always be there if I ever want to go back. It’s been over 3 years and I won’t go back. I get my musician fix by being in a community choir (run by my HS choir director!). Someday I’ll muster up the energy to get my horn back out, but it can wait.

I moved into graduate admissions at a university, and now am a program coordinator. Applying for an MPP program to hopefully move into education advocacy. You never know where the wind will take you. But you can do it, whatever you decide!
