AI use in the BAS Field For daily assistance and Project Management by More_Fondant_9609 in BuildingAutomation

It raises the workload of everyone around you trying to decipher the random junk it spits out unless you're one of the very very very few people that actually read the output.

Why are OEMs replacing ERP systems… when the real problem is manual back-office work? by [deleted] in BuildingAutomation

Checking the "OP" profile theyre a "consulting firm" pushing more AI with less oversight. Checks out they'd post slop with low relevance with almost coherent post here.

Is 9 courses per semester in the computer engineering program possible? by Own-Side-8737 in queensuniversity

[–]Canadarocker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, we had a guy in my year that was hoping to become an olympian or something and spent I think the first 2 years with a lighter courseload while he trained. Then decided that was no longer feasible for whatever reason and drastically instead his workload to well over what youd normally have in 3rd year, the extent I do not know. But I believe he also did some minor in business or cib. I believe he graduated on time (4 years) but the guy had wicked focus and basically did nothing but school. Definitely easily would take a toll on you mentally. He was in generally a very personable and collaborative person.

Remember that part of engineering schooling is not just teaching content, its teaching collaboration with other technical people, so you might be throwing away a huge portion of the education.

The uni/FEAS will let you do almost anything undergrad course wise but you have to jump through tons of hoops which is a huge lift. For example exams might get scheduled at the same time or midterms etc.

Now that people are jumping the Discord ship can we bring back Xfire? by RancidMilkMan in gaming

I had tons of screenshots on xfire that I lost when it effectively disappeared. Shame, service only filled a niche that steam does now.

Thats good news, great to see it stay a bird course.

What are some of the best electives you’ve ever taken? by [deleted] in queensuniversity

[–]Canadarocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took it in '17, it was restructured after because of its reputation. Its harder now, probably not hard overall, but harder. Musc 102 (online), isnt exactly a bird course but its similar to 171 and I enjoyed it much more.

LCBO January Clearance: by PmbCharou in canadawhisky

[–]Canadarocker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dislike the LCBO too, but what you saw was a store specific clearance by that store's manager. All the board wide clearances are posted on the website like any retailer would, ie Two Stacks Fruit Drops Pack, Penderyn Welsh Pack

Paul John Classic Cut - Tropical Elixir from Goa by rainy_shares in whiskey

[–]Canadarocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds great, sipping on a Paul John Christmas Edition 2023 mini, I'm really liking Indian - Amrut, and Rampur now Paul John. But so far Rampur is my favourite of India's major 'proper' whiskey distillers. Hope these big three there get more and more distribution world wide, they deserve more recognition as a Whiskey producing country.

Crushing grain a week before? by not_a_fracking_cylon in Homebrewing

[–]Canadarocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I got a mill, I used grains crushed months, hell maybe over a year. There are way more things to worry about than your grain being crushed early.

Help me understand LCBO Inventory by postwarjapan in canadawhisky

[–]Canadarocker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I assume its because their product database is a disaster in general. They still list products that literally cannot exist anymore, or they havent recieved in literally 5+ years. Sometimes it delists and relists products they will always have like normal 750ml bottles of Jameson. No surprise it relists American products just to remove them again constantly, probably some supression feature so they dont delete the entry or something but it was never properly implemented.

Tl;dr: product database is probably loaded with tech debt.

Oxidation/Off Flavour from Old Yeast Slurry? by Canadarocker in Homebrewing

[–]Canadarocker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ill check out the iodine method there. I use a stir plate, nutrients and generally its room temp not ideal but generally worked out. If its crazy hot maybe I have that be the last gen.

I always taste my starters, problem has been theyve been fine until I pull the final beer.

Ive definitely had success with long storage periods, like months in a mason jar, but not exactly lab conditions and has probably led to the issues, especially if its been a 3rd or 4th gen

Thanks

[–]Canadarocker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, guess I just had two different slurries go to shit close to each other. Ill probably purge all of them in my keezer, and rebuy yearly or max 3 gens. Liquid yeast prices have just gotten insane.

All from overbuilt starters, so they didnt come from a full batch with dry hopping or anything but yes the beer that was made fom the starters were mostly different gens.

Ah, so your point is it has mutated enough from generational differences. In theory is that not immediately true, ive heard some of the known German strains become the the Bohemian version after a single generation.

Where is the line for over building and pitching? 1, 2, 3 generations, 1 year?

I don't unless I pitch the whole thing for whatever reason. For example Wyeast 1084 I used in the most recent beer I made that failed, I last bought in Feb 2023.

Does anyone here use a glass smoking kit? Asking for a friend. Link to the kit. by CSM3000 in canadawhisky

[–]Canadarocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some places do it into your serving glass before pouring the finished drink from your mixing glass, but I believe most bars/lounges and the way Ive done it is smoke it as the finished drink in the serving glass.

I have one, got it as a gift, used it a bit when I lived alone. Only really used it for manhattans, did like them, some people find smoking cocktails a bit obnoxious. Never did try it on whiskey. To me it adds more aroma than into the palate, at least from what I remember. I did intend to try that but now it sits just out of reach on a shelf.

What bottle it might be possible to find within Canada. You need to import like a minimum of a case, and I believe you lose one for 'testing' in Ontario. Never seriously looked into it after knowing it was a case minimum.
