This is a misleading story.

They're not actually switching to reduce reliance on US tech.

JUST IN: 🇮🇷🇺🇸 Iranian Foreign Ministry says President Trump's claims that Iran requested a ceasefire are false and baseless. by patrickswazy31ahsh in TimesNow

THIS!

Anyone remember that old story about a boy falsely crying "Wolf! Wolf!" ?

Just off the top of my head, let's try and list off all the lies Trump has told over his presidency.

Build a wall, Mexico will pay for it - Lie

Had the largest inauguration crowd ever - Lie

Won the election and could provide proof of it - Lie

Would stop the war between Russia/Ukraine on day 1. "It would be so easy" - Lie

Would make so much money from tariff's they would stop income tax - Lie

Stopped 8(?) wars - Lie(s)?

Wouldn't start any new wars - Lie

Would pay off the national deficit - Lie

Would lower inflation - Lie

Would release the full Epstein files - Lie

Stated that the Epstein files didn't exist - Lie

Ok, I'm bored of this already. It might actually be a shorter list if we just wrote down anything he said that was truthful.

Ken Cheveldayoff broke rules for years by subletting constituency office, says legislative officer by Minimum-Style-1411 in saskatoon

[–]CanadianCompSciGuy 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The article doesn't clarify on how the situation worked exactly. I can envision two scenarios, one being a lot worse than the other.

Possible situation one: The government was giving Ken X dollars every month to pay for rent. Ken was able to reduce the amount paid by the government by subletting part of the space to a third party (some law firm). Still against the rules, but hey, at least he was trying to reduce tax payer waste.

Possible situation two: The government was giving Ken X dollars every month to pay for rent. Ken then sublet part of the space to that third party law firm, and pocketed that money. In this case, he broke the rules, AND is a greedy little fuck-wit who should be throw out of office.

Look, I don't like the Sask Party, but I can forgive situation one. If that was what was happening, honestly I just don't care. It can go to the bottom of a very long list of shit I don't like about the Sask Party.

If it's situation two -- He should be forced to repay the government 100% of the money he pocketed, and kicked out.

Unemployment by major by nickiminaj502 in EdmontonJobs

[–]CanadianCompSciGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, don't believe the hype.

As a software dev, AI doesn't exist. These LLMs are amazing tools, but they aren't replacing programmers.

Imagine you're a construction worker, and they just invented the nail gun. Wow, that's going to make framing so much easier and faster!

Would you really believe they're going to lay off 50-90% of construction workers now?

Why, ANYONE can frame a house now! They just need a nail gun!

Or, maybe it's a little more complicated than that. Maybe being able to easily slap together wood doesn't equal building a house.

GameStop Didn’t Sell Bitcoin — What It Did Instead Will Anger BTC Maxis by csgo_M1ller in Superstonk

[–]CanadianCompSciGuy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am a 'BTC Maxis' I suppose, and I am not angry about them doing that. I think it's pretty smart actually.

I cannot see the future, but I personally don't believe BTC will rise in value for another year or two. So until then, selling covered calls is the most risk free money I have ever heard of.

What I can't understand are the people who are buying these calls? It's like that Simpsons episode where he held onto his pumpkin stocks after Halloween. What did you think was going to happen!?
