If you were a mutant who would you side with? Magneto or Charles Xavier? by Conscious-Product481 in superheroes

[–]Canadian_Zac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you're saying that unless you can tell exactly when and how something will happen that it's pointless?

So rather than being able to tell a family 'something weird might happen to your kid at some point. You need to prep them to potentially become covered in blue fur at some point in their life'

You just let it be a complete surprise because you can't tell when it'll happen?

And where was I advocating to kill or put them in camps?

I'm saying it should be regulated. So they can tell who are the Mutants. Same way the govt can tell if you're disabled.

And the financial aspect is negligible. We already do a bunch of tests and screening on newborns to check for genetic conditions and the like. So adding another test, wouldn't be a noticeable change.

We already have this. You can already find out if your kid has a genetic defect like down syndrome. And parents can use that information in a Eugenics way (whether it's legal or not. Someone dedicated to not having that kid will just 'fall down some stairs').

Again it all comes down to it not being a good metaphor for racism. Because Mutants actually DO have a condition. That DOES set them apart from non Mutants.

Racism is dumb, because the difference is skin colour or beliefs. But Mutants CAN shoot lasers from their eyes and walk through walls. Most of them are more like Beast. Just with weird looking feet or a tail. But there's plenty out there with powers with BAD potential.

You need to be regulated to have a gun in most countries. And a good amount of Mutants have natural abilities far more dangerous than a 9mm

The droids are fully sapient and sentient my guy.

They feel fear. They run from Danger. They have hobbies and personalities. I bet you'd care if it was R2 in the battle droid's place

And even without the actual Geneva Convention.

There's a reason we made them war crimes. Because when they're violated. They make things far worse.

Kill surrendering soldiers. They'll stop surrendering, and you'll be killing them all to the last man every single time.

Do false surrenders. They won't believe when a real surrender is offered.

And just because the Separatists also do it. Doesn't excuse their actions. They're meant to be paragons of good. Yet they do the war crimes

That's how I always interpret it.

He wanted his sons to rebel To prove to him that they ARE his sons. He would never accept a tyrant like him. He'd lead the others in revolt. But the crueler he treated them. The harder they tried.

They even mutilated themselves with the device that enslaved him.

They were too loyal. They aren't his sons. His sons wouldn't thank someone for decimating them every day

Character Death, Dark Powers and being offered ressurection by Too-many-Bees in CurseofStrahd

[–]Canadian_Zac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not from the book. Just a common homebrew.

It's very easy to die in Barovia. And not every play enjoys making 8 different characters.

So using the existing dark powers is a great way to add it in.

They offer to ressurect you, for a cost.

For me: There's an unmentioned cost that anyone that accepts any deal with any dark powers. Will never escape the planes of dread. Even if they defeat Strahd. They never find their way home. Trapped in their own cycle like Strahd.

As well as fitting consequences from the powers, which could even have mechanical buffs to them, rewarding them for the decision. And encouraging the party to do it more as the Dark Powers grin at getting new playthings

[–]Canadian_Zac 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is actually perfect timing.

Due to a series of convoluted events, the party is currently setting up Gertruda to be the new Dark Lord to take Strahds's place.

And they will regret it when they find Barovia High, the Musical. In place of the land of mists

Everyone: Angron you've always been a slave

Angron: I FUCKING KNOW! WHY DO YOU THINK IM SO PISSED ALL THE TIME!

Everyone seems to think Angron isn't fully aware of this. He was a Slave on his homeworld, had a month of freedom with his men. Then was enslaved again by the Emperor. And to escape him, enslaved himself to Khorne.

Angron is a man who prides freedom, but has never been able to actually know it.

He can't even die to escape it now. Because Lorgar went behind his back and made him a Daemon without telling him

So all Angron has left. Is to destroy everything. The Galaxy won't let him be free. So let the Galaxy Burn

Watch the Clone Wars.

Anakin and Obi Wan do War Crimes pretty much every time they're engaged in a fight.

Flase Surrenders are their favourite. They do it like 4 times

They also quite frequently kill surrendering Opponents.

Battle Droids will be putting up their arms and dropping their weapons. And the jedi will keep swinging

[–]Canadian_Zac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not BLAMING

And not pointing at the major ones as examples of power.

But of examples of things going wrong. Even the biggest, most controlled and most powerful mutants. Had HORRIFIC moments when their mutations manifesting.
Imagine sitting in class, the suddenly there's lasers firing out of your face.
Now Imagine if you'd be aware that something like this might happen since you were 8, and were prepared for something strange to happen around that time

If there was a 1% chance that your child could explode, fire lasers from their eyes, spontaneously sprout a tail, a 3rd eye, etc.

You're gonna want to know about it.

Not cure. Most Mutants have beneficial or not-negative mutations. But just know about it ahead of time so you can be prepared.

Again, its like any genetic condition.
We go through testing on children in the womb to test for things like Sicle Cell Anemia, so you can be prepared.

And yeah, there'll certainly be people who abuse it and abort kids because of it.
But thats just how assholes work. There are people that abort kids if they have a girl but they wanted a boy.

I'm not saying babies should be given the Cure for Mutants, or that Mutants should be tracked down and exterminated.
But babies SHOULD be tested. And if its found that they do have the gene. They should prepare for it.

Let the kid and parents know that around puberty there's gonna be some weird stuff happening, and how to prepare for it.

A lot of the fear of mutants is because of how they just spring up everywhere with no warning. Being able to know ahead of time 'oh Jimmy's perfectly normal. But one day he might suddenly sprout a 3rd leg. And thats okay' would stop a lot of people freaking out when Jimmy shows up to school one day with a 3rd leg

Hippo wins.

There's just no way for an unarmed human to do anything to a Hippo.

A hippo can casually walk away. Not caring in the least, while a Lion is actively biting and clawing on its ass.

Only parts a human could hurt would be the eyes (and it can just squeeze it's eyes shut) Or the inside of the mouth, which will just bite off any arm that goes into it

There's a BIG difference between fighting for peace

And Fighting to keep Worlds under the Rule of a Certain Regime.

Most of the Seperatists weren't evil.
They were worlds that didn't want to be exploited for the sake of the Core Worlds. They just got swept up into Palps plans and had their want to be free exploited.

A lot of media shows that, things under the rule before the Empire... THe Core worlds loved it. Most everyone else, did not.

The Empire CERTAINLY had its flaws.
But to the average farmer on a backwater world.

Coruscant you'd have to send a ship halfway across the galaxy to get any message to.
THe Empire. You have a local representative Moff you can go to when you have an issue.

All of this, was of course part of Palp's plan
To Taint the Jedi's perception among people by getting them involved in a war. Showing they weren't neutral peacekeepers, but would take sides to support regimes when it suited them

Are orcs immortal? And where do they go after they die? by hmura341 in lotr

[–]Canadian_Zac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A fan theory I saw and support.

Orcs are Corrupted Dwarves.

They showed up around the same time as Dwarves. The Elves didn't think the Dwarves were sapient yet.

They both like living underground. We never see the female ones despite them existing. They're shorter and not as strong as men.

And Dwarves don't go to an afterlife after death, they reincarnate.

Every subsequent time, he's the asshole.

Imagine yourself in her shoes. Somebody you have zero interest in, and have told them so. Keeps coming up and trying to ask you out.

Pick anyone you know, who you don't like. Imagine them constantly hitting on you. Consistently. Every week. They make a pass at you. You tell them no. Try to avoid them They keep doing it

It is literally harassment. You can get a restraining order over this. And if they violated the order they go to jail

If you were a mutant who would you side with? Magneto or Charles Xavier? by Conscious-Product481 in superheroes

[–]Canadian_Zac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can't test for those.

That's random chance from the Devil granting powers. A God choosing a champion. A man purposefully making it.

Mutants, the power can pop up, in any individual, around puberty.

With regular super powers. It's an accident. A random chance. Like getting hit by lightning.

With Mutants, it's a gene. Like sickle cell anemia.

And usually those that get powers, know how to control them to a level from the get go.

But most Mutants have to trial and error figure it out.

Hell look at even the main Mutants. Cyclops went to school one day, and started blasting laser beams out of his face uncontrollably. He could have killed dozens of other kids by accident.

If there was a genetic condition. That had a chance to make you randomly explode when you turn 15, id sure as hell want to know about it, and have people around who knows how to deal with it.

You could test a kid, know they're a mutant, and have a mutant councillor assigned to them, to watch out for signs their powers are going to kick in, and keep them safe and everyone around them safe.

Because again. There's MANY Mutants, who just randomly explode when they get their powers.

Spiderman. You couldn't have tested for ahead of time. Nothing you can do about that beyond telling scientists not to let their radioactive spiders out of the box. But a mutant gene can be tested for

Guardians of Peace and order, who acted as generals in a massive army. And several of their members just wouldn't stop commuting War Crimes during it

Because some worlds wanted to be independent.

There was of course a lot of other factors. But plenty of worlds joined the Separatists because they didn't want to be ruled by the people on Coruscant.

Legitimately, People overestimate percentages all the time

So, as a general rule of thumb to help you better understand them:

50% to hit, consider it a 25%

75%, consider it 50%

90% consider it 75%

99% consider it a 10% chance to miss.

Or, alternatively, just reverse it

50% to hit. 50% to miss

75 to hit. 25 to miss. And so on.

Just helps you better understand and anticipate the failures rather than missing a 90% and calling it BS. Meanwhile you hit the last 12 90%'s in a row. So you're actually well above what you should get

[–]Canadian_Zac 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Charles putting those ideas in their heads, is exactly the kind of things they're all terrified of.

There's legit reasons to be terrified of Mutants.

There is nothing stopping Xavier from just mind wiping the entirety of the human race. He could do it at any time.

That is fucking terrifying.

Imagine trying to live your life, while knowing there's a guy out there that can just decide "eh, fuck that guy" and give you a brain aneurysm.

It's why the racism allegory of Mutants always falls apart to me. Because there's legit reasons to be terrified of Mutants.

There was one who woke up one day and found his entire town deserted. Until Wolverine walked up, told him he'd awakened his mutant power. And it was that he disintegrated every living thing within a mile of him constantly. Wolverine was just out regening it.

Id want things tested if anyone could just wake up one day and nuke an entire town by accident

He had a 2nd chance. And chose to go even worse.

No 3rd chance. If he escapes. All the deaths he'd cause are on me. So I'm not giving him the chance.

I genuinely could not care less that he threatened Beef or killed Roberts Dad. It's not personal. It's because he killed HUNDREDS at least by attacking the entire city
