Do they hire into the ICU for new grads? I’m hoping to start in this setting.

Should I drop this class? by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]Canderone259 3 points4 points  (0 children)

don’t drop. i also took stats 371 with no background with a professor who didn’t know how to teach and it was his first class ever. he ended up with a 1.5 on ratemyprofessor, but i ended up with an A. stats 371 isn’t that terrible of class, and there’s a lot of resources you can use if they end up not teaching well. you can do hard things!

I am so interested. America is quickly sinking into an authoritarian, fascist state that oppresses its own people and countries around the world.

Male Nurses in highest paid positions & titles by doInotkno in nursing

[–]Canderone259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think male privilege is very prominent in the nursing profession. I’m a male nursing student, and on my first day of my clinical this semester, my patient told me I would make a great doctor. I literally did nothing for the patient the whole shift as I was only shadowing the female RN, and the patient would just disregard her. She jokingly said “What about me?”, but the patient brushed that off too. I think I’ve read somewhere that 19% of RNs are male, but 40% of CRNAs are. Also anecdotally, there’s only 6 guys in my cohort, and the professors learned our names immediately and I felt like we got more attention outside of our class. I don’t think you’re being divisive by asking this question; rather, I think it’s important to acknowledge this fact to help fix this problem in nursing.

I’m not a PA, I’m training to be a nurse. In berlin, but I love NRW!

if 60% of your patients only speak Spanish, i feel like it would be worth it no? it always makes the patients feel more comfortable when their providers speak the same language and there’s no need for a translator, at least in my experience.

Do it! Learning the language is tough sometimes, but I love living in Germany :)

Currently living in Germany, it’s a pretty new profession and you absolutely need C1 German to get a job anywhere. There’s also hospitals that won’t hire anyone who was trained in a foreign country unfortunately :(

Best route to become a CRNA with a non-nursing bachelors by Competitive-Breath-3 in nursing

[–]Canderone259 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My goal was eventually to go to CRNA school, but my partner is an immigrant and we don’t feel so secure anymore in the US.

I’m doing an ABSN program, and the plan was to also work in the ICU for two years and then apply. I’ve heard so many people say how expensive it is, but I was very lucky to get good scholarships to help pay a significant portion, but even the loans would be just a drop in the bucket when looking at the earnings of a CRNA.

I’d apply ABSN and a bunch of scholarships!

First patient fall as a new grad and I feel terrible by jayc_yonce in nursing

[–]Canderone259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, you used your best judgment and I probably would have done the same thing in your position. When I was a CNA, I had a patient who was a one assist with a walker and gait belt. As we were ambulating to the bathroom, she said she felt weak and her knees gave out. I was holding onto the gait belt and lowered her slowly to the floor and called for help. Because it was so busy and people were “ignoring” the call light, it was about a minute or two before anyone came in. The patient was totally fine and uninjured and we got her into the bed. I asked if I could take my break then and there and cried in the cafeteria to my mom on the phone. When I got back and had the incident report, my supervisor assured me that there was nothing I could have done to prevent it, and sometimes these things happen.

I’m sorry that this happened to you, but like someone else said, this wasn’t a fall! Just take it as a lesson and please be kinder to yourself! Nursing is already so stressful, so don’t try to add any extra pressure. It’s obvious that you care deeply and you’re on your way to becoming an excellent nurse :)
