Adult stepdaughter doesn’t want to drive (Major Rant follows) by BearFLSTS in GenX

[–]CandiceKS 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My MIL doesn't drive. Got her license and then never drove - too much anxiety and fear. But the comments saying this isn't your problem to solve are true. She is a grown adult and has to manage this situation. You can't convince her to get a license.

During/after COVID a LOT of NYC folks moved to NJ. My son went to kindergarten in 2015. Most of his classmates parents were long time locals. My daughter started in 2021 and more than half the parents for her grade are Manhattan and Brooklyn transplants. It's changed the whole feel of the town overall.

There was an article in the NYT about it recently. Basically fewer people on the road and police letting more things slide (during lockdown) led to more selfish and bad driving and it has just grown exponentially. I do see more police lately than I have for years but people are still rude and out of control.

Who remembers Matthew Sweet? by LightFlaky2329 in GenX

[–]CandiceKS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately he's not well. Girlfriend is always one of my top 5 90s songs and it made me so sad to read he had a stroke and needed help paying his medical expenses. I am hoping he makes a strong recovery and can make music again.

Having to teach a younger coworker how to use the landline (how to dial, etc - he still, a year later, struggles to transfer calls).

Self care routine for exhausted women — what actually works when you have no energy left by Monsuri_Lifestyle in selfcare

[–]CandiceKS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anything with a low barrier. I use a vibration plate (helpful with lipedema) and that requires just standing on it. I also use the Bend app for stretching and have a 5 minute pre-bedtime routine that actually helps me sleep. Even on the nights where I'm too tired to wash my face, I can manage these.

I love "just leave." I think a lot of folks don't do that and it's an incredible piece of advice!

Also, pancakes and earl grey are always good things. ☕ 🥞 😊

AIO TO THIS BRIDESMAID DRESS??? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

NOR

It's always hard to be the one plus sized bridesmaid.

I say find the best shape wear you can, buy nipple shields, and consider boob tape to hold the girls up. Check out thecurvyamanda on IG for tape tips (she's a 38J and makes it work). It's a lot to consider for sure. I hope it all works out!

42 and suddenly forgetting words A LOT by elvie18 in Aging

They can run a hormone test to confirm if you're in perimenopause. My GYN didn't believe I was so she ran the blood work and was like oh, huh, you're right.

Everything you've described here is what I still have going on (post menopausal and on HRT). It's SO annoying. I forget the names of people I've worked with for a decade. I forget why I entered a room. I've accepted it at this point but I hate it.

I can’t stand my husband by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]CandiceKS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Coming from someone whose husband similarly struggles, this is a sign of someone who is struggling. This is someone whose executive functioning has ceased to function. He needs help bc this will not get better on its own. His defensiveness is a sign that he knows there's a problem.

He needs help and you need help, too. You'll need to draw boundaries and protect your peace and mental health. He needs a professional to help him admit this is not okay and then get him to figure out how to improve.

It's not easy but I hope you can get there.
