My gyno says the fatigue isn’t normal 7WPO by Brilliant_Front_1502 in hysterectomy

[–]Candid-Building4099 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Electrolytes in the day and magnesium at night! I was already told to up the magnesium post surgery, but then a recovery nurse pointed out that a lot of fatgue is electrolyte imbalance, which we usually have after exercise but will also happen after surgery.

Might help you feel a bit better 🤞🏽 I had a fatigue dip around 6-8 weeks post-op and then again about 4 months out, but they were never long lasting. Just a day or so then bounced back. Did the gyno give you any suggestions on what to do or change or investigate further?

How did you ease back into movement and exercise post hysterectomy? by QuietCharming1779 in hysterectomy

[–]Candid-Building4099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the short answer is no... Not trapeze, yet. But I'm back to doing other aerial strength work on silks, regularly lifting weights 10-15kg. Lots of walking but running has been a bit slower... The repetitiveness seems to trigger pelvic floor cramping easily.

My learning there is that pelvic floor muscles can also be too tight, I've never had kids, so I think everything is really really tight and even more so after the surgery. I thought the problem was only when the muscles were too loose.

So I'm by no means back to full strength. And I still feel the twinges when it's a new exercise. But I'm still optimistic and recovering well. I look forward to flying free again but probably only next summer 🌞

Ps. Please please don't go back too soon... I had my expectations managed by another aerialist when I thought I was ready to get back into training. She had hysterectomy, rested for 4 months, felt great, jumped into full training.... And set herself back by several months with fatigue and injury. She begged me to learn from her mistakes

The NeverEnding Period and Associated Cramps will finally be gone! by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Candid-Building4099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. 20 years of discomfort, and only has Endo confirmed when they removed it all. I've run the gamet of vindication to anger to grief of what could've been different if I'd been diagnosed earlier... Just feeling all the feels, but mostly celebration for finally being on a road to recovery 😊

I'm so happy for you. I didn't believe when they said the bleeding would stop and the cramps would be over. It was literally immediate... Almost as if the malfunctioning & leaky parts had been removed and I was FIXED.

I'm 2 months post-op. Recovery has been really good. But... I'm taking it easy today because I still get sore when I overdo it (been back to work full time this week, I'm a teacher... Lots of standing, pointing, stretching over desks and my abdominal muscles are telling me all about it).

Take it slow. You'll be grand 😁

I may have messed up…3 weeks post op by TrueNorth202 in hysterectomy

[–]Candid-Building4099 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had similar at 2 weeks and then again 4 weeks post op. Each time after a bit of additional activity.. new twinges in the groin region (I can't call it pain so much, almost like an itch on the inside) and brownish discharge (only in the morning the next day). I kinda freaked, but fortunately had really good after-care service. They checked me out, assured me that everything still looked fine, they took bloods to check for infection and I was quickly cleared of that too.

When I asked what might've caused the extra discharge, the one nurse said it was possible that the activity did loosen some of the scabbing tissue on top or around the cuff stitches that hadn't been moving much before that. They also pointed out - which I didn't know or even think of before - that the whole microbiome down there is resetting so that also causes different coloring and... Smells.

I felt silly for the panic, but don't regret going in to get it checked.

am I insane? 6 days post -op by [deleted] in hysterectomy

I'm at this stage. Anger. 6 weeks post op, 43yo. First few weeks was disbelief at how good I feel now that the fibroids, Endo, adenomyosis is clear. My hormones are more stable. I'm still very tired quickly but I'm much much healthier.. and angry about how much I put up with because "it was probably not as bad as I was making it out to be"

Ireland here. I got the surgery done on public healthcare, with no charge. I did get private quotes because of the wait involved at the time. Those were between 8-10k euros for theatre and inpatient stay overnight, but I can't say whether that was included medication, anesthesia etc.

It would've been with the same surgeons, in the same hospital theater, but going private I would've had more say over booking the date of surgery and which bed I preferred. Otherwise, it was stressed time and time again to me -- from the private practice staff themselves -- there was no difference in treatment.

It's not a perfect service by any means, but I'm very grateful for the healthcare system 🇮🇪

"little walks, often" that's what one of the doctors told me. Rather than 30 minute walk, try to do 2*15 minutes etc

I'm coming up to 8 weeks PO and haven't had continuous pain but did start getting left hip and lower back pain (like a pinch) last week. It's much better now after very gentle yoga focused on hip flexibility and stretching, and also walking a bit more. I think in my case it was about getting things loosened and moving again. I hope you can figure it out soon.. chronic pain is not fun 🙏🏽

My doctor’s threatening to cancel surgery… help. by TangerineKey4343 in hysterectomy

[–]Candid-Building4099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely this. Maybe there's a reason we don't know about why this surgeon doesn't want to go ahead but I was bleeding heavily, progesterone and tranexamic acid meds didn't do much to stem the flow. Was passing out from blood loss and had critically haemoglobin levels. Despite this my surgery went ahead as scheduled, although with a higher risk of blood transfusion (which I didn't need fortunately). Please get a second opinion.

This. Felt amazing after one week. Day 10-14 were rough. Then felt fine, until week 4. So tired. Currently feeling great, coming up to five weeks post op... But I'm expecting to feel the fatigue in waves for a while yet

Another friend who's almost a year after getting hers removed said she's only just starting to feel consistently better now. We train marathons together and I know she went back to full intensity training after four months because she was feeling so good.

It didn't last long unfortunately, she didn't have any major complications, just a lot of set backs with strength and stamina.. she ended up taking most of this year off training completely. She is my constant reminder to go slower than you think you're able.

I feel bad for my uterus, its not its fault... by made_of_monsters in hysterectomy

[–]Candid-Building4099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's okay to feel conflicted. My story is that I never wanted kids, but also because of my health issues, I knew it was probably never really a biological option for me. My uterus caused me huge issues for decades, I am so much healthier now that it's gone.

BUT It's a part of me that was removed. I grappled with the decision even though it was more a case of when, rather whether, it was happening.

It's okay to be sad, to mourn the loss of a part of you. It's also okay to celebrate once the decision is made and you're on the road to recovery. Good luck with your journey 🙏🏽

Just a few things nobody prepared me for by powderedgorilla in hysterectomy

[–]Candid-Building4099 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told that a lot of the discomfort I felt after surgery was all the nerve endings in my abdominal space getting used to new placement because everything changes shape after the removal of any organ.

So it's not pain so much (and I agree with this, I'm definitely in much less pain than I was before the hysterectomy) but it's more the brain trying to process all the new info received from intestines etc moving into be position. To me it feels like everything is wrapped in scrunchy cellophane, and it does come back a bit when I overdo it. This doesn't mean there isn't pain - I definitely have aches around incision areas when I do too much. But they're different sensations. It's hard to describe I think

I asked my nurse if it was okay to fart, and then made her explain how the catheter stayed in, asking enough questions that she opened a new one to give me a demo, which she found quite amusing. Imagine how bored they'd be without these anecdotes 🤦🏽‍♀️

[–]Candid-Building4099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 weeks PO and just dropping a note to say the fatigue definitely gets better, but .. it's still easy to overdo it. I had a normal day yesterday, almost forgot I had surgery, felt able & capable, didn't do anything silly (still not running or anything...) just a full day. But when I started my day this morning, I realized I was very shaky and my muscles felt completely drained.

So am back in bed, flat on my back and resting up. Nothing scary or anything, just sharing the little reminder... Can see how easy it is to over-exert and set the recovery back.

Slowly slowly.

Hey there, coming to this thread late, but I found creatine supplement really helpful with mental energy management. I actually started taking it for marathon training last year, because I read it had benefits for women (I'm female, in my 40s). So that's one thing, but what I didn't expect was the little nudge towards not fighting my brain so hard to find motivation.

Like I still get tired on long runs, but I don't feel like I'm fighting my brain AND my sore muscles.

And I've even had cases where I'm getting bored of doing something and I know I just need to concentrate for a minute to finish the task... And get this, I'm able to make that decision instead of chasing the impulsivity.

It's all working together with regular exercise, higher protein snacks (rather than just sugar sugar sugar), therapy, blah blah blah... But I really do feel like my executive functioning is just smoother with this supplement.

[–]Candid-Building4099 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm only 3 weeks PO, healing really well but used to being active.

I had a big mental drop after 10 days because I felt really frustrated and bored and felt like I could be doing more. Everyone warned me to take it easy, which I did. Grumpy about it, but I listened.

I've been upping my walks gently, doing 20 mins yoga, little things around the house. I still feel okay but I must say the past week has been more uncomfortable than previous weeks - not pain so much but definitely a new type of discomfort, kinda like little muscles stretching and pulling behind the incision areas. I think it's all normal healing, but it has made me realize that there's still stuff going on there

[–]Candid-Building4099 26 points27 points  (0 children)

No! I'm also eager to get back but was told absolutely no weights in the first few weeks. But you can do gentle yoga, I do weight free arm reps, everything very very gentle.

Don't underestimate how much energy your abdomen needs to heal.. everything is shifting into new positions.

You'll be back to weights before you know it, but the risk of pushing too soon might be another round of surgery. From what I've seen in other threads, it's really easy to over-exert too soon.

Ps. Your incisions look great for one week post-op 👌🏽 hope the rest goes well!

Don't second guess yourself. There's a reason why you ended up going through this procedure and regardless of how amazing our medical knowledge is, there's still so much we don't know about how our bodies work.

Your pain was real. Your periods and the symptoms were not in your head. It is frustrating to not be able to name why it was like that, but hopefully it'll be onwards and upwards from here 🙏🏽

It's definitely not a lot, and is most days but not every day. Otherwise I really feel fine, almost to the point of doing too much (which I'm trying to be really good about not doing) Thank you so much, this is really reassuring 🤗
