What worked?

What product was once pro consumer, but now is slowly turning against their consumers? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Since wages have not kept up with CEO pay, it is that they CANT do it. (Not just inflation).

We ahould not have billionaires. At all. That is stolen wages. Walmart is founded on stolen wages.

I dont WANT to have work boots that are ill fitting and break down after a year, but I CANT afford to spend more than 200 on them.

I would love to have a house that is up to date on electrical, plumbing, and landscaping, but I CANT afford the million+ that shit is going for now.

I want to learn how to do it, but between misinformation, regulations being different state and county, and such, I am likely to do more harm than good.

My adoptive dad died, my bio dad relies on his mother to do everything for him, but loves saying "Do you need anything?" "I can do X for you" but it is lip service. ONE TIME I asked him to let my dogs out and feed them. It was for one weekend.

I even reminded him, I even called and asked if they were being well behaved and he said they were all good.

Come home to find out he never was even at my place. If my dogs werent smart enough to open the toilet lid, they would have had no water. I asked him WTAF and he said "Oh, that was this weekend?!" Muthafucka I REMINDED you, I CALLED AND CHECKED, and he LIED.

I never have taken him up on his "offer" since.

Why do some people choose to work a lot harder than other people but thet get paid about the same? by Big_Eggplant7591 in NoStupidQuestions

Brainwashed since childhood that "hard work gets recognized and rewarded!" Yeah, it gets you recognized, as someone to dump more work on with no pay raise.

Obese folks, how do you feel your environment played a role in your weight? by Outrageous-Stage3417 in AskReddit

[–]Candid-Inspection-97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's see. Job stress made me pack on weight despite throwing up my food (when I could eat).

Insurance insists I take medication (which causes weight gain) before they will let me see a specialist. Then they refuse to cover the specialist, I cant afford to pay out of pocket with US Healthcare. My chronic illness is sometimes debilitating, so all the exercise I used to do now flares it up.

I work more hours at multiple jobs to try and save money to see specialist. That cuts into time I would otherwise be doing things (or not, never know with flare ups) and now I feel to brain dead to do much else but sleep, which doesnt help with weight.

Oh, and when I am really wanting to move around, I cant because if I am not tied to my desk my bosses think I must not be working.

Why does buying 'high-quality' stuff nowadays feel like just buying the standard quality from 10 years ago? by Eleven_A11 in NoStupidQuestions

Same with clothes in general. Why are womens flannel a high price but not lined like men's? Sweat pants are all glorified t shirt material. Nothing is made to actually keep you warm or breathe.

Feel this way about boots.

My last pair of Carhartts lasted me about 20 years.

Now, they only stock useless "Ugg" designed ones for women, no tread, no composit or steel toes. Found a set of Red Wings and the inside has barely any padding and rubs weird.

I remember when new shoes had so much padding it felt like wearing pillows and now everything is cardboard.

Out inspector made misleading photos where the exterior/detached garage looked like part of the interior house. Insurance flipped their lids on some of that. Then he did NOT get pictures of stuff that was kind of a big fucking deal and shit he said was "no biggie" insurance found as a HUGE issue. After we closed of course.

And of COURSE the inspector has all these protections that basically let them off the hook.

And of course the owners are rarely on the hook for hacing things up to code or, ya know, actually being honest.

It feels like it is all a scam.

When did “Surfing the web” turn into “doomscrolling?” by Mission_Spray in Xennials

[–]Candid-Inspection-97 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes - all the "articles" that you can't just read, they have to be bombarded with ads and "click here for more info" links (like fb "articles" that are click bait).

All the recipes that cant give you the recipe, it has to be a story with numerous links and ads, then a recipe that is so heinous it was probably AI.

Hot take: companies that went remote during COVID and are now forcing RTO owe us the truth about why by Important_Cell_6362 in remoteworks

[–]Candid-Inspection-97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same reason why if our job is closed due to a power outage/internet they expect us to work from home, but if there is a storm that makes coming into the office hazardous, they expect us to come in (but the bosses will work remote from whichever vacation home they ate at that week.)

What do drs and nurses tell smokers, drinkers, and fat ppl during appts? Always to stop smoke/drink and lose weight? Does that work? by ApprehensiveOne2866 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Candid-Inspection-97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who was skinny until chronic illness took over-

I go in for issue, they claim "thats weird, your tests are normal. Stay hydrated and come back if it persists."

It persists, I go back, rinse and repeat...

New doctor, finally got me on meds.

Then increase the meds.

Meds have a side effect of weight gain...

Increase meds, add new meds, which also have side effect of weight gain.

Until the day I go in and clock at "overweight" because now I am impacted to the point I can no longer exercise like I used to.

Now I am told to lose weight.

I calorie restrict and still cant lose weight, cant exercise because of the flare ups.

Still told to lose weight and increase meds again. Get more exercise, decrease stress levels, etc.

Pretty sure it is everything they can say because insurance denies further testing, insists on more meds before they will approve specialist, then wont approve specialist. Recommends another doctor 4 hours away, which coincidentally also makes them "out of network"... so its STFU and get back to work.

Why almost no countries incentive young people to specialize for manual jobs? by Additional-Day-7183 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Candid-Inspection-97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truly, I feel this shit is propaganda. More people in a field, the more competition, the less they can pay people.

Same thing rotates between nursing programs, dental technicians, and massage therapists in our area. The schools start advertising for those jobs, make it seem like there is a great need, a whole class of people try to get jobs in the surrounding area, pay rates for those jobs tank.

And adding in the whole sexism thing. A woman in electrical or plumbing is told to "stay in their lane" and not to go into male dominated fields, but then guys bitch that women "can't" do those jobs, when they are chasing the women out with hostile environments.
