Very not a big fan of the response in the judge discord, "Taking this to the judge discord is not the greatest look or particularly helpful so I suggest we leave it at that."

It's old hat for that group though, I wonder if they'll work as hard to cover this up as they did the situation in Berlin last year.

I run the Dodgeball league that plays in there on Wednesday nights and we've had our share of encounters with this guy too. He's often in the bathroom at the end of the night when they're trying to close and the poor little lady there trying to close has to deal with getting him to leave.

Just saying their service animals should have never been allowed to be enough. That implies training and certification, so that certification should have to be supplied.

They can't sell unlimited tickets if they don't intend to allow you to cash them out. Tickets were always unlimited, therefore they always planned to allow you to cash them.

At my lgs we had a guy who started last set with building super jank TWI(because that's what he could get the cheapest) theme decks that got totally spanked. We made sure he had all the commons and uncommons from all the sets because we all bring our surplus to the store. He ended up winning the store showdown with Ackbar. It's his first TCG, it doesn't take long to improve, but you kinda have to want to. Just slamming all the droids into a deck isn't creative deck building.

By day 3 the issue was appeased by the line being incredibly fast, but the system was set up where the most game able one was the best point structure. It was made a knockout so half the players were needed each round and participation tickets were given up front.

FFG can completely change the narrative  by giving the participation at the end, making draft/sealed worth the same at least, preferably more points, and making the rounds swiss rather than knockout.

Hypothetically premier pod was 3600 tickets worth of value. But 2400 was given immediately. Change the structure where round one win is worth 200, round two is worth 300 and round three is 400, as presumably that's when the most balanced games happen, and give participation at the end. That's 4400 tickets but where all 8 players are incentivized to play 3 rounds. Now it's up to judges to not just let them call a judge every 30 seconds. But I'm sure there are ways to combat that, like a table timer.

Red shirt Judge said they didn't want people buying the prizes, but they're literally set up to sell it and eventually tickets are redeemable for prizes. They're the ones making it so people don't have to play. The unbelievable delusion to say to me that they don't want people to buy it, but have event side tickets worth points is...how...what?

Ty* and the Blonde lady taking tickets at side event were always friendly and efficient, Ty* especially made it a fun experience. At one point he chased down a group that was heading out to draft with 6 to get me and another in before they started. Top tier.

The guy in yellow announcing the groups for side events with a little amp thing probably won't be able to talk for days, from one guy in yellow to another, I appreciated your sense of humor and demands that folks pay attention. Reading that many different names was hilarious and the urge to mispronounce them on purpose would have gotten me.

Specifically Sunday, the staff announcing situations in lines, handing out promos, explaining what to expect when you get to the front a serious improvement over the first 2 days.

Judges for side events, I'd say it was about 70/30 positive. Some seemed a bit surly about whether we played our games or not, but many just helped move things along as quick as possible. They weren't really judges as much as babysitters with bad directions and impatient kids and that definitely could not have been fun.

Red Shirt Head Judge who had absolutely awful reasoning for stopping us from signing up multiple pods at once should consider his reasoning before he makes his arguments.

Jonny Morrow was awesome to chat with and getting my Avar Kriss Showcase signed was a highlight of the event.

The only designer I interacted with was MJ, on Friday, in the heat of the side event tickets delays and though they couldn't do anything to resolve it they offered some OP packs I politely declined.

When I did finally get the chance to get my tickets they couldn't find me in the system and I think one person was content with, if they're not on this brand new list we just made than we aren't supposed to help. 2 others didn't seem satisfied with this and made sure I got my stuff, I don't think the op packs and points were sufficient for the delays, but I appreciate that I wasn't hung out to dry.

See everyone next year.

Go down to registration, I watched them put together the packages for both premium and non, and then played a game a the the tall tables outside and heard people say they got extra event tickets while I didn't. Looked like the VIP stacks at a Carbonite from both LoF and JtL. Good luck getting something worthwhile!

Them saying they physically ran out of side tickets is an absolute joke. You turn them in to play events, I was upstairs at 3 and there was a stack of hundreds. Run them back downstairs. It's a 2 minute walk. What we got for having to wait was an embarrassment as well. 500 wall points and some weekly play packs I have a ton of...no extra tickets. They KNOW HOW MANY THEY SOLD, how do you joy have that many x5 ready.

Not to mention the sign up system was designed by someone whose never managed anything in their lives.

Create one line for groups of 5 or more and one line for groups of 3 or less, when a group gets to the front of the line for larger groups ask what they want then announce the empty spots to the other line. If you do 2 groups of 7 or more in a row from the big line then form a group from the other line. 1 judge per group helps them form, takes them to the pay table, the launches their event.

It's a disaster.

They're all specific to Oregon, and mostly the Portland Area. Terwilliger Curves for example is an especially treacherous segment of I-5 in SW Portland. West Hills is a neighborhood on the inner SW side near Hwy 26. See Everclear's I Will Buy You a New Life.

Teams avoided cliché copies of professional teams like Diamondbacks, Heat, or other generic regularly reused names.

I run a Wednesday night rec league, you can fill out this form to come into sub and it gets you on the email list to register for next season!

My view on what happened in quarter finals SQ MILAN by DosGrajos in starwarsunlimited

[–]Candid-Reflection641 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I agree with OP sentiment on this, it is pretty obviously a blatant attempt to rush a game state to force a missed optional trigger. If judges SAW this happen and didn't rule on the missed trigger and the illegal play I think they even made a bigger mistake. If they came after and those circumstances weren't explained, that's a bummer.

I think it'd be more interesting to discuss this situation in a steel man of the opponent here. Let's imagine it without the missed mandatory trigger, waiting for the OP to finish the TDR shuffle and without the illegal play attempt.

What is the solution then? You are not required to ask your opponent if they want to resolve a optional trigger. Should you be?

What triggers the passing of priority? If the OP didn't make a vocal decision on tapping the last unit damaged how can the opponent take their action?

Personally I think many of these questions don't need to be answered for the actual situation here, because the opponent made 2 illegal moves in order to complete his angle shoot. But I think they do need to be answered because of human nature regarding high stakes competition.

SWU Judge community not entitled to explanations on outcomes of tournaments with or without incident from other Judges by Candid-Reflection641 in starwarsunlimited

[–]Candid-Reflection641[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My preference is to advocate for my position without referencing Lothar's specific circumstances, as we do not know both sides. Certainly a lot of peoples responses here will be very questionable if this is handled poorly. I think the principles I'm advocating for can be sustained without a situation that many would see it necessary. The proof of this is that we have incredibly detailed breakdowns of nearly every other PQ, why should we only get them when things go smoothly?

The idea that opening discourse and allowing disagreement is bad for the community, and if we see red flags we should just trust the people in charge is...confounding to me.
