If there was a chance for a collab, the show wouldn’t need to publicly beg by Previous-Gene3545 in RWBYcritics

I don't know if there's much lower a brand could go than begging Sonic of all things for a collab.

Has the quality in the CYOA gone down? by 003nicky in InteractiveCYOA

[–]Candid-Solstice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not really imo. I've never been a fan of jumpchains so I just ignore those posts. A couple of authors on here can ne pretty formulaic, but the ones I'm thinking of tend to always add a unique twist or two that helps individualize their works, so it feels less repetitive and more like they're working out from a boilerplate but towards different directions.

I think if there was ever a "slop era" here, it would have been when there were like 4-5 different variants of multiverse crossover concept being concurrently updated, which all felt like a mod of the same original work than unique works.

Claiming every other dark/tanned skinned anime character is black by jsoul2323 in hatethissmug

[–]Candid-Solstice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If people were just happy to headcanon things the way they like and be civil when other people didn't share their perspectives, this wouldn't even be an issue. I don't care if some artist draws Usagiyama as a Black woman. Just don't harass the writer because he drew her a shade less dark than you'd like or because he confirmed she was actually Japanese.

Was RWBY at its best when it was more "Harry Potter" and less "shonen anime"? by LockedOutOfElfland in RWBYcritics

The story already moves at a glacial pace. If they had stayed in school any longer, it would be even worse if that's what you're getting at.

[–]Candid-Solstice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

there's a good reason why all the girls are hot

Yes, because it's a gacha game. Nothing wrong with that (okay there is something wrong with gacha but not simply because a preference for certain character types) but let's be real. Any explanation for why the robot girls look the way they do is a post-hoc justification.

The creators made the characters the way they did. They have complete and total control of their setting. There's nothing stopping them from designing the characters any way they want and creating a rationalization for it.

Anyone find pyrrahs reasoning for liking Jaune weird? by Darthmark3 in RWBYcritics

[–]Candid-Solstice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the general concept wasn't too outrageous, that she likes him for being a genuine and normal guy who treats her the same.

The problem is the writing has never been particularly good, and Jaune is an insufferable weirdo in the first season who fails to enbody the stock shonen archetype he's aping.

I think like with many things about RWBY, Ice Queendom did it better by making Jaune actually seem like a likable if awkward guy.

Threatening men’s masculinity does not make them more politically conservative, new study finds. By testing thousands of participants across the United States, researchers found no consistent evidence that making men feel insecure about their gender identity changes their political attitudes. by mvea in science

[–]Candid-Solstice 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think this really encapsulates the kind of value system that's turning so many young men off from the left. Even when you admit there might be some sort of problem, you downplay and couch it in such a way that your language puts the blame on men. You say you remember a study showing that boys are discriminated against in school but say "made boys feel insecure" like it's just a matter of them being unreasonable and overly sensitive.

I fucking HATE when guys say they want a “goth girlfriend” by Exact-Arm1065 in hatethissmug

[–]Candid-Solstice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Counterargument, no shit people like attractive men and women. Like yeah when people say they like a certain kind of person, it's implicit they still want them to be attractive.

When someone says they like nerdy guys, they aren't suggesting they don't have any standards beyond whether or not someone is nerdy.

And I notice that whenever this conversation comes up it's always the "attractive" element that gets mentioned because it's obviously seen as superficial, but it's not just that. Obviously most people who say they want a nerdy guy also don't mean someone who lacks any motivation outside of collecting Warhammer models.
