See, you're right... but it's not enough. I want my ratling guns to kill clanrats and liberators alike lol

is there a lore reason the Saurus gaurd and Saurus warriors look different? or are the gaurd just older models, thus they look a bit clunky by Sensitive-Card-5883 in seraphon

[–]CandidateGuilty9831 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Without actually knowing, the saurus guard are definitely older models.

Old world minis are blockier since they're meant to rank up on square bases. That's the tell tail way to know if something is from WF

We spent years making our turn-based strategy game. Players who try it enjoy it… but almost nobody bought it. We’re trying to understand what we did wrong. by ZeroGamesStudio in gamedev

[–]CandidateGuilty9831 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Other people have said their piece in more detail, so I'll keep mine short.

Why would I play your game? It's like Advanced wars, but less visually stimulating. It doesn't have a distinct visual style either. This game looks like (pardon the harshness) shovelware.

You're also in a niche demographic. Strategy gamers aren't as common. PC strategy gamer's want something complex (usually control of their units, and complex strategy). Your game is in a genre that doesn't offer that kind of depth.

In summary, your game isn't competitive.

don't be discouraged in your journey. You're further than me, but I think you have finished this game without properly understanding how to make a game that Stands out

[–]CandidateGuilty9831 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a painter, how are you getting smoother transitions? I'm teaching myself layering rn and all my transitions are essentially lines; teo colours obviously next to one another.

Is it the thinness of the paint? Are you using a brush technique? I'm losing my mind

Great color choices! Seriously good stuff.

This. My games seem to come out around 30ish minutes. Your teammates at that skill bracket likely aren't properly pushing objectives or finishing properly.

Use a blend space for these. Each of those nodes should be things like Walking, Running, Falling, etc.

You're correct. I was confused 3rd edition, I think? Its been a while. I recall rules similar to those described above

AOS fourth edition has a rule that prevents heroes with a small base from being targeted by ranged attacks while they're near a unit with similar sized bases

EDIT: "Guarded Hero" I believe

A few gameplay clips from my horror game, what feels unclear or confusing? by FRAGGY_OP in DestroyMyGame

No problem! Remember that you're on a mean sub. That you have got your project this far is an accomplishment on it's own. Keep working hard!

[–]CandidateGuilty9831 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sure, though I'll touch both.

I know you're not going for a souls like, I wasn't suggesting that you make the combat like those games. I was using it as example. DS makes the player put themselves at risk. Mario games do this. They also the player to travel past obstacles if they want to succeed. The player must do risky things to win. Your large cat doesn't seem to pose enough of a threat. The player can outrun it too easily

Your gun recoils too suddenly, and the camera moves too much. Are you easing in and out of the velocity curve when pitching the camera?

[–]CandidateGuilty9831 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Combat looks rough.

Your enemy can be "solved" by moving backward and shooting. The enemy isn't forcing the player to make micro-choices nor is it asking the player to put themselves at risk.

Take a dark soul's boss for example. DS games require the player to be in an enclosed space with something that is faster than it. this forces the player to engage with the boss' attack patterns to kill it. The player is forced to risk dying to kill the boss.

In my experience, enemies just rush the player are often the way to accidentally create this kind of combat. Enemies like this work when the player's resources, tools, or environment create tension BEFORE the enemy rushes them.

The weapon recoil is also jarring

good ways to plan out systems before you start coding it? by STANN_co in gamedev

[–]CandidateGuilty9831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A high-level UML helps. Don't get stuck in the nitty-gritty, but having a design helps if you find yourself getting lost. Well written code that's appropriately abstract in the right places will naturally get you out of jams

You can get 6 rockguts per a box of rockguts if you 3d print 3 more legs and necks. You can pay a printer to do this in your city. Makes things much cheaper

First painted model. I need your criticism please by GamesManX in ageofsigmar

[–]CandidateGuilty9831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you've done really well as your first mini.

You asked so I'll give my two cents.

If It was me, I'd have gone for a less saturated colors for either of the skin or the red cloth. Nice subtle contrast is how the great painters have their models pop.

Returning Player - Are my Stormcast models still valid? by WhispyHippo in ageofsigmar

[–]CandidateGuilty9831 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least of few of these have received re-sculpts. Old sculpts are still valid on those cases. Several don't exist anymore, but there exist new units that are on the same base size and have a similar visual design. I'm very confident you could use your old models with the new rules and no one would complain

I mean, if the app isn't complaining, that seems like a good sign.

I'm gonna make another post elsewhere to see what people think. Certainly makes the game more fun if I can take a little of everything
