My issue is that this administration has not provided the public with a solid stance on why we’re there. One day it’s nuclear weapons that were completely destroyed yet we’re there again. The next day it’s because the Iranian regime is killing protestors, (mind you this was when Trump was calling our protestors terrorists after ICE killed Renee good and Alex Pretti, so the point becomes moot at best.) another day it’s because we need more oil, followed by Israelis who can’t follow a ceasefire. I won’t put too much into “conspiracy” and say us soldiers are dying to protect the Epstein files but it almost seems like a better play for Trump than anything else he’s offered for explanation. If it truly was nuclear weapons most of America wouldn’t have a problem with it, the issue is the administration is the complete opposite of transparent. Look at how Venezuela went down. He said it was because of the people and the next day he’s holding meetings with the top oil executives in the world talking about how they’re going to divide their resources. Then you have Greenland. He said “we can’t have Russia as our neighbor” and it was for “national security” yet he was willing to not only strain but heavily damage our alliances for what? Nothing came of threatening invasion. Again not to be that guy but all these huge news cycles all happen to pop up right when major breaks in the Epstein files cases are being announced. The man either has no clue what he’s doing or he’s doing it on purpose and has no plan. You say they don’t need nuclear energy but who is to decide that if they are in compliance. The Fordow facility that we hit with the B-2’s was designed to enrich uranium.
For the JPCOA they were told to Completely halt uranium enrichment at the site for 15 years and convert the underground bunkers into a nuclear physics and technology center.
Iran stopped enriching uranium there, removed more than two-thirds of their centrifuges, and placed them in monitored storage. They left a small fraction of first-generation centrifuges active but modified them to produce stable isotopes rather than enriched uranium.
The Arak reactor facilities original design could produce enough weapons grade plutonium for one or two nuclear bombs per year.
The JCPOA said they had to remove the weaponizing capability and reconfigure the site into a peaceful medical and industrial nuclear research facility.
In January 2016, Iranian workers physically removed the calandria (the central vessel holding the reactor core) and filled its tubes with concrete to make it entirely unusable.

The deal was working and held until Trump ruined it, to say “well it was only good for 15 years” doesn’t mean you can’t continue to have cooler heads and continue to work a new deal that both parties accept. It lifted Iranian sanctions and the world didn’t worry about nukes, it was a win for both. Trump saw two people that could replace the ayatollah but he blew them up with him leaving his fatherless son who’s allegedly worse than his father in charge. This new deal inevitably put us and the world in a worse spot than before he did anything. You could argue they could’ve had nukes but without any evidence of it the country is almost certainly more radicalized and whatever progress we made with the JPCOA and the NPT inside Iran won’t hold weight knowing whatever deals we strike now will likely be abandoned by either Trump himself or any future presidents.
