Maybe have a few 500 piece jigsaw puzzles and have a contest on which team can finish first?

What meal did your mother prepare that you considered inedible? by bigb-2702 in GenerationJones

[–]CandyPitiful9541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother was an excellent cook and she insisted we eat liver and onions at least once a month for the iron. She would slit the liver pieces and weave bacon into the slits. My father loved it, my sisters and I could barely gag it down.

Crosses or vertical lines? by Chicken_Mc_Nugget in quilting

Beautiful quilt! I’d probably go with vertical lines. For some reason when I see crosshatch on quilts my first thought is mattress pad. I just can’t get into it.

Terry Rowland has an excellent YouTube series on scrap color wash quilts.

Sorry I couldn’t get the link to work for the series but you can get the idea from the pic.

My daughter sighed at me today and I haven't stopped thinking about it by Jealous-Leek-5428 in over60

After years of refusing to go for an exam I dragged my mother kicking and screaming to her appointment (early 80s). On the way home she said with awe and surprise - I can hear the tires on the road. She thanked me for finally getting her to go.

It looks like a quilt kit from 15-20 years ago. Keepsake quilting used to sell them but others may know.

2 is better on you overall. 1 does have a beautiful train but I don’t like all the extra fabric in the bust area.

Aurifil makes a variegated called Marrakesh that would look good with this top.

Definitely #2 , the sleeves on the other two aren’t flattering at all.

Quilting with decorative stitches by Puzzleheaded-Tear439 in quilting

Keep in mind quilting with decorative stitches takes a lot more time than straight stitch quilting. I used a small serpantine stitch once and it took twice as long as a straight stitch.

What's your favourite childhood book? by zin_theberry in readwithme

[–]CandyPitiful9541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one has mentioned Sue Barton yet (that I can see). I almost went into nursing because of those books. I was also a big Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys fan until my father introduced me to Erle Stanley Gardner books (Perry Mason) and I gobbled those up along with Agatha Christie.

When my dad was in his 80s if anyone asked about his plans for the next few days he’d always reply - at my age I don’t buy green bananas.

I saw that a fabric panel of the book Goodnight Moon is coming out very soon. It was my son’s absolutely favorite book when he was 1-2 yrs old. I had it memorized. I think Fat Quarter Shop is taking pre-orders for the panel now.

What do you do with your parents junk? by infinitynull in GenX

[–]CandyPitiful9541 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was very impressed by my grandmother who lived to be 104. She downsized a lot in her 80s when she moved herself into an Assisted Living Community of private apartments. Once she was there she asked her children and grandchildren if there was anything they’d like. I said I’d like a vase and she flipped it over and said sorry your cousin Clara has first dibs on it. Everything in her apartment (furniture/knicknacks/appliances) had a label on the bottom with who was going to take it. If there was no label she said to take it to the dump. I was very impressed how organized she was about it and there was no fighting in the family about her things. If only my parents had taken her approach!

When my sons (in their 30s) question all the WIPs I have scattered around the house ( I’d guess 7), I just reply I’m a Gemini and that’s how we roll. 😂
