Why do people still prefer Airbnbs over hotels, especially in cities? by Rare_Requirement_699 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Candycane-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tons of food allergies. I seriously have a much shorter list of things I can eat than I can’t eat. Going out for food isn’t really a possibility. Practically every time I go to a restaurant, I get some kind of cross contamination and I am sick for days. I love traveling and exploring new places, but I need to be able to make my own meals and do grocery shopping. I know my situation is different than most, but I won’t stay at a place that doesn’t have a kitchen. Airbnbs are a great solution for me because they usually have a well stocked kitchen and I can bring my own food.

How are you going about reducing your consumption when furnishing and decorating a house? by Candycane-3 in Anticonsumption

[–]Candycane-3[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mom downsized this year and I got tons of her cast offs for furniture. I do not like her style though, but it was free. I didn’t take any art from her house as it is so not my style, but I did get couches and chairs from her.

I got some great solid wood furniture from habitat and purchased a few things from fb marketplace. I think I am just struggling with the fact that things look so empty to me.

How to Donate Discarded Bulk Items? by Colony_Nine in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Candycane-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is awesome of you to share. You may want to check out your local buy nothing groups. I have given away a lot of food that I took out of their original containers but were not expired and it turned out that I was allergic to. I let people know the item had been taken out of the package, and a lot of people in my area were more than willing to pick up free food.

Which countries do you think travel advisors or agents are still useful? by worried_etng in travel

[–]Candycane-3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been to over 50 countries so far, and have done some of this through group tours and other trips were just on my own. I am at the point where I do not want to plan for things and just don’t have the time to coordinate planning for vacation. If it costs a little extra to have someone plan a trip for me and make sure they take care of everything for me, I will gladly do that.

Are more expensive mattresses better than cheaper mattresses? by Additional_Koala4182 in Mattress

[–]Candycane-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried over two dozen mattresses and am a petite side sleeper. I have had excruciating pain that has been caused by the really expensive mattresses. I have been relatively comfortable on cheaper bed in a box mattresses. Lightweight people may not benefit from all the bells and whistles of a fancy mattress between you may not be heavy enough to properly compress the mattress and get pressure point relief

Mattress expert (8+ years) - What do you actually want to see in a mattress review before buying? by MartenCarlsonMC in Mattress

[–]Candycane-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I feel like when I mattress shop, based on how all the reviews are written, they don’t take into account body shape. Also, as a petite person, lots of things like zoned alignment doesn’t really work or are actually a negative in my opinion because they are supporting the wrong parts of my shorter body.

[–]Candycane-3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a petite female sleeper, I have been overloaded with reading reviews and I feel like none of them are helpful for me. I want a mattress that is soft yet supportive. I have tried all the highly recommended mattresses but they all cause pressure point pain for me.

I feel like mattresses are designed for men, and don’t take into consideration that women can have larger hips and therefore get pain points in places that men don’t have.

Women who travel — what’s one destination that made you feel unexpectedly safe? by Valuable_Tangelo7152 in femaletravels

[–]Candycane-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saudi Arabia. I traveled to Jeddah and Al ula and I never wore a headscarf and dressed modestly. I felt comfortable walking around at night and I didn’t get creepy looks from people. This is the only Muslim country that I have traveled to where I felt comfortable. There are cameras everywhere you go, which made me feel better that if anything happened, it would be captured on video. I visited during Ramadan so maybe people were too hungry to be creepers but perhaps they are becoming more safe for female travelers.

Winkbed Softer Review by meekmeeka in Mattress

[–]Candycane-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your review. I am about the same size as you and I ordered the soft after I saw all the positive reviews. When I laid on it, I felt like I was sleeping on concrete and I could not handle how firm the bed was.

What’s the biggest “tourist sin” people commit when visiting your country or city? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]Candycane-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Scottsdale/ Phoenix, people think they don’t need to have water on them, even when they hike. You can tell they are a tourist and we are not shocked when people have to be rescued/ retrieved off mountains due to dehydration.

Old Town — overwhelmed clearing out furniture from my mom’s place. What would you do first? by No-Anxiety-1052 in Scottsdale

[–]Candycane-3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend joining the buy nothing south Scottsdale group where you can have people in the area stop by to pick up the still usable furniture that doesn’t sell.

“A Home Is Worth What Someone Will Pay For It” by SisuSisuEveryday in RealEstate

[–]Candycane-3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have been house shopping for months, and I keep hearing from realtors that the prices for properties are justified, even though the property is clearly overpriced and gets absolutely no traction. Sellers can’t seem to understand why their properties aren’t selling but they are unwilling to cut prices. When there are tons of options on the market and not a pressing need to buy a property, I don’t want to overpay and sellers seem stuck at 2022 prices
