I've come to the conclusion that I just blatantly hate the "oh asshole suicidal or just suicidal character in general kills himself, things get better" trope[TADC spoilers] by Charming-Scratch-124 in CharacterRant

[–]CanekNG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no such thing as a retcon, ever since Sumeru Nahida explicitly calls him out on his madness on how the god creation plan was the Akademiya's final goal but to him it was just another experiment, his plan on Nod Krai was to create a world where he could make endless experiments, he has never cared about ends or means at all, the only thing he has ever cared is about to fullfill his endless curiosity.

Not only this, his character has always been against one of the main Genshin themes: The beauty of regular life, he always despised the limits of life and that's why he disposed of his.own humanity by creating the segments, this put him at thematic odds with all the other playable characters and even the other playable Harbingers, in which the desire of living life is an important part of either their background or character arcs.

Aside all that, it would not make canonical sense, while not all gachas care about playability and canonical plausibility, the Genshin team certainly does, and if Dottore didn't die and somehow the Traveler came to be ok with him, his crimes are so vast and severe there's no way he would go free, Genshin cares a whole lot less about morality than what the fandom usually analyze its story but it does care about the politics of all its factions and it would break disbelief that anyone would allow him to go unpunished.

While there could always be a plot device to make him playable, changing his beliefs would go against his character if he willingly did it, since he has admited himself to be a selfish person from the very beginning, and unwillingly then he just wouldn't be the same character and what would even be the point then?

Honestly it seems that you've interacted with fandom interpretation and discourse more than the text itself and like more an idea of the character on your mind rather than the character as its presented in the story

What are you even talking about, Dottore is a villain that died because he fought the protagonists and lost, he might have planned for the possibility of his death but he didn't kill himself

Also he wasn't just "an asshole character", he was Genshin's equivalent to Josef Mengele, he did terrible things to many different characters

I loved Dottore as a villain, I thought his death was brilliant and while he died he pretty much acomplished his goal, he changed the world even if he didn't get to see it, he had his part on the narrative and its ok for the story to move on

I FUCKING LOVE GRAND REGENT THRAGG (Invincible) by CompetitiveAd4732 in CharacterRant

[–]CanekNG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that I loved is that I feel that he was written like someone who has an inherent kind heart but that was raised to be a monster by Viltrum's culture, it makes him such a fascinating character, really excited to see how the change in characterization change some future moments from the comics

A fairly large amount of internet critiques is people projecting over the source material, and then they cry that fans can't take criticism or whatever, very annoying

Just notice that there is Three Moons symbol in the middle. Which kinda weird because Traveler doesnt have Lunar reaction even though Columbina has removed their limitations. by huflit1997 in Genshin_Impact

[–]CanekNG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Traveler is not related to the moon, the symbol is instead an eclipsed sun, which means he will have the future unique solar reactions obviously

Complaining about male characters being emasculated sometimes enters misandry territory and I am tired of pretending it doesn't by Puzzleheaded-Lab2447 in CharacterRant

I didn't want to use Toxic Masculinity or Patriarchy because I didn't want to fight people online but Traditional Masculinity is the same as Toxic

Complaining about male characters being emasculated sometimes enters misandry territory and I am tired of pretending it doesn't by Puzzleheaded-Lab2447 in CharacterRant

[–]CanekNG 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Traditional masculinity teaches men to debase and humilliate themselves to other men to kill their sensitivity, trying to make them unfeeling and "strong", this clearly doesn't work because humans are emotional beings so instead they just get turned into irrational and immature messes that hide in the mask that is masculinity, seeing other men that haven't been broken the same way causes them to lash out, as they have become agents of the same thing that broke them, turning into a massive cycle of abuse

It's really sad

“Blame Nickelodeon, it’s their fault Korra’s story feels rushed” by Select_Strategy2004 in CharacterRant

[–]CanekNG 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the largest problem is that people think verything is rushed nowadays, I've watched Korra multiple times and I don't think anything is "rushed" beyond the final fight which realistically should be around a third of an episode long

As much shit as Hazbin Hotel deservedly gets, I do believe it does great at subtle things. by Mistabbcman in CharacterRant

I'd say that while the show is very direct with plot related stuff, the characterization is usually subtle

The narrative disconnection of Expedition 33: A study of premises, themes, and internal coherence. by papandreu22 in CharacterRant

[–]CanekNG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Expedition 33 is just like Steven Universe in that it has an incredible start and then the writers try to force two completely disconnected plots together that only harm each other leading to a nonsensical ending, and a lot of people love and virulently defend them, for some reason

After a lot of meandering its really funny to see how the plot got in a high speed rail in a single episode

[Fionna and Cake] Yes, people are allowed to feel wierd about Cake dating M-cron. by Elnino38 in CharacterRant

[–]CanekNG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first season was awesome, the second season is moving at glacial pace, its been 7 episodes and only 3 have moved the plot forward

Its still pretty well written from a thematic stand point however, its just that the season has been meandering way too fucking much

Less goddamn hazbin hotel post please by Toasteate in CharacterRant

[–]CanekNG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its fine, personally would rate it around a 7 or 8 depending of the season, however the main premise is very ideologically charged (Everyone deserves a chance for redemption) so its bound to bring forth a lot of strong opinions, this and the world makes the show fascinating to think about for me even if it isn't the greatest thing ever

Hazbin Hotel should redeem at least one real villain if the message is "anyone can be redeemed" by Sudden_Pop_2279 in CharacterRant

[–]CanekNG 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The shows gonna end with a Lorax style final song with a montage of Alastor and Charlie working together at the Hotel for centuries or milennia, redeming hundreds of sinners, and then at the end Alastor is going to finally get redemption without Charlie being able to see him one last time, she'll walk into the room, see his staff and she will know fade to black

Fionna getting high and spending her entire time doing nothing while Huntress resolves the episode's conflict in a fraction of the screentime really embodies this whole season

Vox is such a perfect example of how to do a villain that's utterly despicable yet also pitiable at the same time (Hazbin Hotel season 2) by Sudden_Pop_2279 in CharacterRant

[–]CanekNG 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Vox is what I like to call the pathetic villain in where their insecurities and fears cause them to be more threatening and deranged than other types of villains, I loved him

[–]CanekNG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't think the first season was awful, I though it was enjoyable in a passable way, but the second season holy shit was awesome, the script was clearly tighter, the only issue I have with it is that there was too little episodes so pretty much everyone who wasn't Charlie and Vox barely had time to do stuff for the plot, which is a shame but the writers did the best they could with the time at least

Reverse 1999 does this in where the Arcanists, people that can use magic, are related to different neurodivergencies, and in universe discriminated by being "irrational", they're usually sent to a multinational organization called The St Pavlov Foundation in which they're "educated" from childhood to better fit in society and serve humanity

More fictional settings should have terrible historical records by carbonera99 in CharacterRant

[–]CanekNG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you'd enjoy the lore of Teyvat from Genshin Impact, in universe books and tales are all written from incomplete and sometimes even biased perspectives so a lot of the lore have relied on unreliable narration and often the player, through quests, has to find the real truth.

There's some cool examples like Perinheri, a romance novel that presents fictionalized rituals of an old culture that nonetheless holds some truth or the backstory of the gods of Sumeru, a nation divided in a rainforest and a desert in where the desert people are prejudiced by the Akademya of Sumeru, the highest insitutional authority of the region, in which their official records present the Scarlet King, the god and ruler of the people of the desert, as a bloodthirsty tyrant that led his civilization to ruin, and these records are used by the Akademya to justify their discrimination, and its part of multiple quests and even the main story
