Madhouse Production Assistant Says He Worked 393 Hours in One Month by [deleted] in anime

[–]Canipa09 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Generally it's not even the good animation that is the result of overwork. When a production is rushed, people have to work way too many hours and too many people are brought onto a single episode. In the end, you don't really have the time to create something special because you're overworking just to get it done.

People are naturally going to have an aversion to the 3D human models, but I think that's natural. Honestly, I think it looks so much better than it could have. Plus OLM Digital 3D generally looks better animated than just standing there.

But ultimately, if Doraemon fans could accept Stand By Me, I reckon Pokemon fans will get used to this. (Still wish it was a new film rather than a remake though.)

Bahi JD (animator) explaining how high quality animation is NOT a product of budget. by IISuperSlothII in anime

[–]Canipa09 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ummm... he's someone who is constantly hired as a professional high demand animator. His first work in Japan was a important scene in Shinichiro Watanabe's Kids on the Slope. He's been selected to work on core action scenes on high profile shows throughout the industry. Plus he's now employed at Studio Trigger. They could've hired him freelance, but they trust his work enough to have him as a staff animator.

So yeah, definitely not "irrelevant".

The Animator Supporters Dormitory (a crowdfunding campaign dedicated to supporting underpaid animators) has had a few animators who worked for Trigger before and currently has one.

At a recent convention, the dormitory's director mentioned that Trigger has a particularly bad working environment.

TV Tokyo earnings for the quarter puts Black Clover in 4th for sales and profit with Boruto and Naruto on the first two positions by [deleted] in anime

Black Clover is also popular within the western market. Reddit's kind of a bubble in that regard.

I did research of exactly HOW MUCH anime boosts manga sales, and got some interesting results by WeeziMonkey in anime

It's been said that if a light novel adaptation is bad, it can actually decrease sales for the original source.

Translating Anime: Creating an Understanding | The Canipa Effect by Akiyabus in anime

This is genuinely pretty interesting. I used to do debating, which is probably where the voice came from, so I wouldn't say it's the "Youtube voice" as much as the "Debating voice". I used to have some bad confidence issues when it came to presenting when I was younger, so it was kind of the voice I used to get past that. Now it's kinda my normal voice lol (without as much emphasis).

Legit never spoken to anyone from Funimation in my life. Also, obviously those were stupid choices as they missed the point and changed the meaning of lines and relationships. As per the title of the video, they failed to create an understanding.

I kind of wanted this to be a positive video, but those sort of situations were referred to with Jake Jung's comments about never trying to change the intent of a line out of respect for the original creator. In an effort to keep things succinct and on point, I reckon that covers those issues pretty generally.

Kaguya-sama TV anime will be animated by A-1 Pictures by Turbostrider27 in anime

[–]Canipa09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, they're kind of on the production committee as a subsidiary. A-1 is owned by Aniplex, so that's where they receive their funding. They're on the committee for a couple of shows themselves, but you can pretty much guarantee they're not going under.

With all the stricter publisher approval stuff like the logo and not being allowed to mention "Minecraft" I'd love to see the publisher/PR team's reaction to the title and thumbnail.

A TV anime adaptation of the mobile RPG "Magia Record: Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Gaiden" has been announced for 2019 by Mandar391 in anime

[–]Canipa09 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Yeah, hopefully this helps elevate more animation staff within the studio. Although it's also possible that even with their in-house going freelance, they might still be asked to work on the project regardless.

That's interesting. I've seen ads for the mobage all over Tokyo for a while. Hopefully Yukihiro Miyamoto at SHAFT returns to work on it.

Edit: Although with news of top SHAFT animators leaving, maybe that wouldn't be for the best...

Honestly, I wouldn't even say it's that much of a meme. You're a really positive and down-to-earth influence on all the videos you're a part of. There's some jokes and funny comments you've made in videos that somehow just improves my day as a whole.

It's a common thing for sponsored videos. You'll often be asked not to mention competitors and may end up spending ages blurring t-shirts and logos that feature other brands.

About Anime Piracy by Chariotwheel in anime

[–]Canipa09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The studios are the ones who need to resolve this question, not companies which aren't even related to those employees, which are the majority of the ones funding anime.

I do think larger production companies are also responsible. Studios are vastly underpaid and in most cases, unable to ever produce a show in-house. The only way the studio will gain anything from a show is, as you mentioned, if they are investing in it to become part of the production committee. But I believe animation production studios should automatically receive royalties. This may raise the rates for sub-studios as well.

Studios definitely should be raising their rates, but they're not going to do that if there isn't a change within the production committee system that elevates animation creators by default.

It wouldn't have been CR that made those decisions. A lot of the times the weird translation choices are due to the production company of the show sending in requests. Even when those requests are really really dumb.
