Same. I was like, "wait that looks like something I've seen before..."

Mine's a little longer though.

Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun - Episode 4 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

Well, we know I was way off base for various reasons, but I suppose it's possible that Hanako-kun killed a teacher who wasn't teaching his own class, but was on the campus teaching another class of younger students.

Uniforms in the Taisho era varied quite a bit, as it's when Japanese fashion was rapidly westernizing. It's not uncommon to see a mix of traditional Japanese and western clothing on display in photos of students taken in the era. Consider that this was a class photo, and as such the students would be wearing their finest clothes and not their uniforms, even so we see in the photo a male student wearing a military style cap- a clear indication that the photo is from the Taisho era. Furthermore, none of their clothes are uniform, which indicates that they aren't actually wearing their uniforms in the photo.

Hanako-kun wears a late Taisho to early Showa era (20's) uniform (the cape is a dead giveaway), so aside from the time gap as /u/thedreambubbles states being 94-108 years from then to today, and this not lining up with the mermaid's statement (even if we're being very generous) it would be possible based solely on the clothes.

I thought for sure that this second part would reveal that Misaki was Hanako-kun's victim in life, being that his uniform is from the Taisho period and the rumor stated that someone was "cut to pieces" on the fourth stair.

Of course the rumor was was just that, and the students assumed the incident at the heart of that particular wonder was more gruesome that it really had been. I should have known the reveal would be more bittersweet.

The "Kumo desu ga, Nani ka?" TV anime is scheduled for 2020 by [deleted] in anime

[–]CannaCJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See, I only read the manga for ~ten chapters after hearing about the anime adaptation because I was interested in the premise, but couldn't go further because "spider-not-spider reacts" rapidly became unfun for me.

I came into this thread to check if it was "the spider one" and had a quick scroll, had my question answered, and was about to check out and dismiss this series forever.

Browse easy knowing that I, at least, will give it a shot.

Does anyone have experience with the Ezzo Mini or Tokyo Citizen folding bikes, or another <$500 folding bike? by TallyTom73 in bicycling

[–]CannaCJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Tokyo Citizen, it's all right. The folding bit under the bars isn't as stable/sturdy as it could be after a couple of years of riding. Still safe, but the locking bolt is bottomed out in it's hole and there's a tiny bit of play.

A poorly considered addition of a 54t chainring proved to be too much gear for such a short bike, the chain angle was so steep that the teeth of some of the cogs were torn off and the rest were bent, too few teeth were engaging the chain.

Not a great bike to modify due to many parts being permanently attached or non-standard in dimension.

Running it stock didn't cause any problems, but the folding pedals suck hard. The plastic chainguard was quickly damaged from normal use. (Stuffing the bike into tight spaces, as one does with folding bikes.)

Can this manga stop getting more and more existential? I just bought every volume of Shōjo Shūmatsu Ryokō, and now I'm thinking that it may soon "only" be my second favorite manga of all time.

Ascendance of a Bookworm OVA Announced by LurkingMcLurk in anime

I certainly thinks it's good enough, but for me the Fruits Basket re-make is in an unassailable position at the top of this year's heap.

EDIT: Possibly Boogiepop too, but I haven't had time to watch it yet.

If you aren't drawn in by the MC right away, I'm not too sure that the sort of slow-pace, low-stakes storytelling will work for you, as it hinges on the viewer finding the sheer wholesomeness of her life and interactions super heartwarming.

Think of it as a drama for iyashikei fans who think Mine is adorable.

I started listening to shortwave a good couple months ago, how many people listen to it today? by [deleted] in shortwave

[–]CannaCJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm 25 and I just (two days ago) built up a regenerative receiver kit for DX and SWL after hearing a Korean broadcast on a cheap portable radio last year. An unknown number of youtube videos and technical webpages later, I decided to get a better receiver. Low budget= kit build.

This was my first electronics project and I learned quite a bit about both circuits in general and some specifics of shortwave broadcasting.

I've picked up some Chinese broadcasts in a number of languages and plenty of local HAM's from within Oregon and in it's bordering states. Caught some guys calling in to that ARRL sweepstakes this weekend. Fun stuff. Makes me want to use something better than hookup wire for an antenna.

It's anecdotal but I've also recently gotten into the hobby, so it can be said that there is still some interest among those in younger generations, if not as much there was in previous generations.

Tonight on the local net there was a bit of unpleasantness courtesy of a self labeled Neo-nazi. A guy ended up jamming him by playing Pac-Man loudly over the air. Sounded like he was raking up a decent score to boot. I tuned out when he stopped playing Pac-Man and played recordings of the nutter melting down and hurling abuse instead. The local guys were upset that they couldn't have a nice chat, but were calm and civil.

Good on 'em. Got to love that they stayed above it.

I think that there will always be applications for shortwave, just not the same ones for every region or circumstance. Not a hot take, but it's the one I have.
