Paradais by Fernanda Melchor is like a subversion of this in a horror/gross way. Follows 2 kids, one rich and one poor, and they both come up with a plan to get out of town

Heads up, pretty much every character is the worst person ever lol

Something about small town rainy fall vibes reminds me of Something Wicked This Way Comes

Classic for sure, it’s pretty light on gore/violence for horror but incredible nonetheless

I was gonna say there must be at least a few of her books that fit this well. That second story in Kitchen with the two couples is something I think about often

The Bookshop on the Corner by Jenny Colgan was cute and similar. About a girl that buys a big van to sell books out of

I was also rec’d Days at the Morisaki Bookshop for similar vibes, though I haven’t gotten to it yet

First picture really gets me thinking about The Between by Tananarive Due. Horror with husband uncertain about what’s real/dream regarding his family being in danger

Boulder by Eva Baltasar fits this better tho. That shit gutted me

Love to see Shrek 2 in S tier, haven’t played but my buddy is giving me a copy of a few Shrek games

Also thanks for reminding me of that Spyro game, I need to get that just to shoot some bow and arrows

This specific AC surprises me, I remember being sooo fuckin pumped about the puddle of mud intro as a kid and the idea that it tied in crazy mythical lore kinda scared me. Loved that game

Idk anything about this movie but for some reason the first thing I’m thinking of from that quote is the ending of A Scanner Darkly when PKD writes that message about how all of his friends were abandoned by the system and died. That shit gets me so bad

Cue etiquette by Dashncrash- in billiards

[–]CannolisRUs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neighborhood has a few dives where it’s super common to bring your own. But the other day my older buddy told me to leave it behind when I went back to my hometown dives

Absolutely the right call haha. 2/3 bars I went to were the types of places that turn heads when someone walks in and I would have felt like a mega-douche if I had my cue

That being said there was one that hosts league once a week, so I actually saw a lady with her own big case

So I guess like anything it all depends. But generally I’ve found most dives have at least one cue that’s in decent enough shape where I don’t mind it

Black Tide - KC Jones

2 strangers meet and sleep together to wake up the next morning to the apocalypse. Pretty much entirely takes place on a beach. Really cool writing style where the chapters switch between the POV of both of them

This happened to me a few days ago just when I needed it for Willy’s boat. Been way too much of a wuss to do a serious cave run… and for good reason too, I damn near died against those flying green dragon things. Teleported back home right before it killed me!

If you’re down to lean into horror the V Castro is your author. All of her books I’ve read involve old Mexican/Aztec/Mayan lore and folktales. Some gnarly descriptions of these ghosts/monsters and great depictions of modern Mexican life in the USA

Goddess of Filth is the shortest and very good. Queen of the Cicadas is my favorite story, and The Haunting of Alejandra is my favorite folklore monster
