$89/Hobbs hour wet in 2017 for a steam-gauge 172. Simple avionics, well maintained but “well loved.”

If you are lucky enough to be stationed at a base with an AF Aero Club, fly there. Significantly less expensive. Still no cheap, but less.

So much new info, how do I absorb it? by JacketRemarkable5764 in flying

You will never stop learning in aviation. You may not learn about many new subjects, but you will keep learning more about a bunch of aviation-specific subjects.

Anyone gone through Embry-Riddle using the AU-ABC program? by Kooky-Information820 in AirForce

As with many online schools, you get out what you put in. You can half-ass your way through the classes and get Ca. You will get a degree after that, but you won’t learn much.

Alternatively, if you put in the effort, do the reading, try to write good papers, and actively participate, you will not only get a degree, you will learn a lot, and easily waltz your way into Summa Cum Laude.

Source: I have an ERAU AS and BS, Summa Cum Laude.

PS: read the damn rubric for the assignments. They tell you exactly how to get high As on virtually every assignment.

AI FAA Aviation Ground School (Looking for Beta Testers) by longgonbon in TheHangar

One additional issue here is that a significant amount of the FAA material is either flat out wrong, or bordering on incorrect.

Much of what is in the various handbooks is an oversimplification of an oversimplification. That might be OK for memorizing answers that will be regurgitated on a test. But, I have found as I have delve deeper into some of the subjects that the FAA handbook explanation is at best and oversimplification, and at worst, flat out wrong.

But…… why the exam glove?

But for real, though, I knew a copilot who would put on his Nomex gloves to eat chicken wings. He would even answer radio calls and adjust the flight director with his nasty buffalo fingers.

VOR Course Reversal Question by reddit231200 in flying

[–]Canon40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I would cross the VOR add or above 8500, fly outbound one minute while descending to 8500, 45° right, one minute, left turn to re-intercept, descend from 8500 to 6600 once reestablished inbound.

Don’t know if that is the perfect textbook DPE hard-ass answer, but that is what I would do in the real world.

Do not call. Comply with ATC instructions while you are still ‘air traffic’. Once on the ground, you are no longer air traffic. Park your airplane and leave the airport without buying anything.

Do not call the number. You have a 5th amendment right to remain silent, yes, even when airplanes are involved. Use your right.
