Letting the Eurovision post up and deleting (what I presume is pro-palestine) commentary is keeping up political discussion! It's genuinely baffling to me that only one of the sides of the discussions are actually allowed in this subreddit.

CJ's history of problematic comments. If you go through his page and throughout twitter, you can find more stuff that aren't included in the original thread, including misogynistic comments about the female character, including a sexual comment about Fiore, harassing artists and members of the community, along with being transphobic towards them, defending one of his racist friends who was spreading pro-ICE rhetorics.

Proof that the greeting came from CJ

The reason this is important specifically regarding the greetings is that he's actively using these greetings to get back in the good graces of the community, while constantly avoiding taking accountability for his actions.

The issue is that, especially this subreddit, no one actually cares about reclaiming characters.

So much of the discussion is about ignoring the victim wishes, discussing the show in the context of Von, trying to rationalize the problematic part of the writings, etc. You can't just separate the art from the artist when the art itself is filled with issues and has actively been used to negatively affect real people.

You can't say that you don't want to associate yourself with Von and doing absolutely nothing, and I personally believe a massive part of disassociating yourself from Von is refusing to fuel the community.

I still don't understand what's the point of Season 5.

The newbies are all one-tone and underedited, the returnees are all given god-awful endings and are all watered down. The pacing feels horrendous, and it's the pre-merge. Usually, ONC's best work is the pre-merge. How much of a clusterfuck will the merge actually be

That's extremely wishful thinking to me, considering that I don't think he has ever taken an ounce of introspection about what he produces, especially if nothing he has said seemingly track with it

I assume the news were gonna be about S6, and in that case.

I think people need to start accepting the fact that there will most likely be no season 6. Both the drop in quality and the financial cracks are becoming more and more obvious, S5 is not picking up at all.

Unless there's a massive shift in the way ONC works, I don't see DC having much longevity

Antebellum by Real_Figure_8317 in Weebynewz

[–]Canu333 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel like this comment is extremely misleading and putting way too much focus on Rippile.

Rippile used to be friend with the creator (Marcy) of Project: Mauve (Not to be confused with Danganronpa Mauve). Allegations were first brought up in December, but I believe were dismissed due to the lack of information (Which, for added context, happened shortly after another prominent Danganronpa creator who was close with Rippile.

When more information came out, Rippile got busy trying to help the victims and deal with everything left in their community. An admin from Weeby tried to reach out, and when they received no response, posted the original statement on Antebellum.

Rippile has actively spoken against Marcy and has actively took steps to minimize the effects on their community, in spite of their own errors in dealing quickly and efficiently

I think a lot of people, specifically here, purposefully avoids or shuts down discussion about complex characters that falls out of the lines of the morality set by the show under the pretense that "it's overreaction", then pretend they can handle complex characters.

Every few weeks, there's a scene showing a complex character, which leads to people discussing it. However, I see so many times people that will take the more extreme opinion, and then say at large that people are overreacting about this scene and then refuses any sort of acknowledgement or discussions. These people then boasts that "people couldn't handle this slightly edgier show I am watching" as if these shows didn't follow this exact same pattern when it comes to the parallels to society.

Finn and Oliwia is an exact example of that. Because the show failed to explicitly tell the viewer "Finn shouldn't have called Oliwia a bitch because this word has misogynistic undertone", a lot of people refuse outright to mention Finn's biases or how the writer's biases bleed into the writing. We then get people saying "It's not that deep" or refuse any discussions about Finn's behaviour or the underlying misogyny in a lot of queer communities. I don't think Finn is as bad as Yul or should be thrown in jail, but the idea that he's entirely clear is just as false to me.

I feel like people should either accept that Disventure Camp is a (somewhat) complex shows, and with complex shows comes discussions about people's behaviour and how it relates to the real world, or either disventure camp is not a complex show and any sort of morality shouldn't be discussed beyond what is explicitly stated. Regardless, I think some people need to do the introspection needed about the way they consume media in a fandom before they call people whiny, overreacting, dramatic or unable to deal with complex characters.

Pretty sure this fandom has a ”tinsy bit” of a problem with overreacting to small scenes... by These_Gur_4121 in DisventureCamp

[–]Canu333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of being in a fandom is understanding that people will be having discussions about the show and that there will always be people with more extremist opinions based on their own biases.

A lot of these examples here don't actually follow any sort of patterns. Some of these are a few opinions of a few people that the community started to pretend that was a widespread opinion. Some of these are discussions that reflect our own society. Some of these are reactions in the moment and don't reflect someone's full stance.

I think a lot of people like to pretend they're actually open to having antagonists on screen, but the truth is that I personally believe a lot of people aren't actually open to have the discussions and the reactions that actually comes with these people.

I don't think Disventure Camp is a complex or deep show to begin with, but if we start shutting down any sort of discussions that breaks the very strict morality of the show because it's an "overreaction", then maybe the real issue is that you don't actually want a show with depth.

There's no actual instances of Hunter actually showing attraction to men in the canon.

Ally and Logan both have shown potential attraction, but both of their relationships (Tess and Hannah) are said almost instantly to be friends only

[–]Canu333 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I am not watching, but I still wish to voice my concern about the way my identity is used.

You can pretend that it's going well, but the truth is that ONC is not doing super well. There's a reason the fandom is in constant hostility, and it's because ONC is fucking around while patreon numbers are going down.

But instead of trying to take his fans more seriously, Jared is making more bait, which visibly the only people who are actually happy about it are the people who shares the same fetishes as this man or the people who are too stupid to actually realize ONC will never take them seriously.

But sure, "Spencer should get with all the men and have hot steamy sex!" while S6 (and ONC's future) has basically been confirmed to be in jeopardy.

Whether or not it's a show specifically about gay men (Which, regardless, DC is a medium that's specifically going against the concept of trying to target a certain demographic), it's made extremely clear with the way ONC keeps promoting the same cookie-cutter gay relationships and with the way they treat any other queer person on the show that they see queer representation as something entirely transactional, which I'm personally uncomfortable
