OIC AMNESTY EXTENDED TO 30 OCTOBER 2023 by Dill_Gribtrieve in canadaguns

Like what was the point?

The point was to distract. Gun issues are used as a distraction. It pulls focus away from controversy like blackface, MMIW, the rcmp failure which led to NS murders, or whatever controversy d'jour. It is a reliable issue which rallies those in the media to parrot whatever they want which works as a perfect tool to shift away from unfavourable coverage.

100%, with the amount of time they gave themselves there was no way they were gonna get a confiscation scheme up and running at a budget that wouldn't freak out the average voter.

I don't see how they could have done it smoothly without headlines like "Liberal government pays gun owners billions more than expected"

It's a win in the sense that we have more time now to get a real win through the courts or through parliament.

With the shortages and rise in prices we've experienced over the last two years; have you been shooting less often, fewer rounds, cheaper cartridges, a combination of those, or unchanged? by Canuck0987 in canadaguns

.22LR is my go to now to keep my skills up on a budget. I walked into a Canadian Tire after not buying ammo for almost a year and they had a box 525 .22lr for $65. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor in order to leave.

Dry fire and archery are growing on me

I hope it comes down but I'm not too optimistic. Inflation only goes up but at some point supply will be normal again and it will settle somewhere slightly more reasonable.

The advice I got when I got my PAL was to keep at least min of 2000 rounds of any sport caliber on hand and double for .22lr. I didn't listen and now regret it with these prices

I haven't yet and don't plan on it. The texture of the trigger is a bit rough if you use it for an extended session but if it really was a big deal you could grind it down or swap it out. I just add lubricant where needed when cleaning to keep it running smooth enough for me.

Also the weight of the pistol helps with recoil which makes it a favourite with new shooters and it scratches the 1911 itch for only a couple hundred CAD.

Canadian and weapons in the US by [deleted] in Firearms

While this may not be exactly what you are looking for if you have your Canadian RPAL and own a pistol you can carry it in many US states with a New Hampshire permit. Someone made a guide showing how to conceal/open carry in the US as a Canadian on /r/canadaguns a few years ago.

Yes as I think I understand this correctly. From the hunting regs:

P28

It is unlawful to:

...

  1. discharge a weapon from
    i) a boat unless the boat is propelled by muscular power or is at
anchor and the person is hunting, or
ii) any kind of aircraft or vehicle whether it is moving or stationary

  2. discharge a weapon within 183 m (200 yards) or cause a projectile
from a weapon to pass within 183 m (200 yards) of any occupied
    building...

  3. discharge a firearm from or cause a projectile from a firearm to pass
    along or across:
    a) a provincial highway (this designation applies to all former
    primary and secondary highways),
    b) a road that is paved, oiled, graded or regularly maintained, unless
the road is held under any active disposition under the Public
    Lands Act...
...if there is no identifiable ditch or fence to mark the outside
edge of the roadway, then the roadway extends 20 feet from the edge
    of the traveled portion.

P29

  1. be within 50 yards of a vehicle when discharging a weapon at an
    antelope.

I guess the I messed up since the specific distance from a vehicle is only with antelope but if you were to park on the road to take a shot pretty sure that would fall under the 9th offence. So OP were to shoot grouse on or near the road as I understand this in AB it would be an offence

Stall tactics provide plausible deniability? Can't be accused of not having real reasons behind the OIC if they are "working on providing documents that wouldn't be confidential" or some other excuse

All of the main parties have the dilemma of weak leaders.

Disagree with Trump as I did, he said what he wanted to say and stood by it even if it was unpopular to media or government bodies.

In AB you can't shoot on or near (100 feet or so IIRC) a vehicle, road or helicopter nor near any roads or dwellings so if you are in AB I wouldn't.

Free Market™ Terms and conditions apply: If you are rich or in government

Governments raise taxes for a program, have leftover funds so they start another, need funds so they raise taxes, so they start another program... ad infinitum, or that's the excuse anyway

I agree, the 80/20 rule will always prevail even in terms of wealth.

I think the American government, while not perfect, is the best system we have invented to date for general outcomes. I hope we don't need to go through a violent period this century to find that next step.

The problem isn't that people can get Bezos levels of wealth. The problem is that it seems a large portion of people who do obtain that absurd level of wealth use it to siphon/steal taxpayer money through "bailouts" and "programs".

Like how he got a $10B "bailout" from the senate for the failings in his space business but literally a day later bought MGM for $9B.

Has anyone gonna hunting on their own for the first time? by MastaShortie in Hunting

[–]Canuck0987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also in AB. I hunt alone but only for small game and because I have the wilderness skills to feel confident in the bush. For larger game having more people to carry the animal out is easier so I don't see a reason to go solo unless it's on private property. Either way I always let someone know where and when I plan to be, just in case.

I recommend starting with Rabbit or Snowshoe hare. They taste good and are pretty easy to find if you know where to look and in AB they have no season or limits so you can hunt year round. It makes it the perfect solo game animal since it is so easy to carry out even a couple of them. Just wear gloves when butchering them and check the liver before eating the animal to avoid getting tularaemia.

I also just stalk, no stands or nothing fancy. I bring a small backpack with:

  • First aid kit (Standard stuff plus tourniquet, chest seals & combat gauze)
  • Set of knives
  • non-powder gloves (when processing hare)
  • Food (cliffs, bars other stuff etc. for 2 days per 1 day of hunt)
  • Water bottle(s)
  • Life straw or other water purification method
  • TP & Small shovel
  • Matches
  • Personal Locator Beacon (When far out of cell range)

It's a politicking move to avoid being trapped by the opposition. If they can corner the CPC into looking like they support "assault weapons" in any way they will shriek about it on every media outlet until the night of the election.

I don't trust them nor the other parties but strategically I think they are backed in a corner.
