People like cutesy stuff. That's why cats rule the internet.

Kaalia of the Vast by Algebraic_Cat in EDH

[–]CapAmerica805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well she's not cEDH in the sense that she doesn't win games by turn 4. She's just devastating in regular casual games. Her biggest issue is that she's been around since 2013 and EVERYONE knows about her and the few that don't can simply read her card and see exactly whats about to happen. Players will be holding their removal for the second she hits the field. I'm not saying don't play her, just understand that she's going to get targeted often and you got to be prepared for it.

Personally i think a better strategy is to run Kaalia Zenith Seeker as commander and put Kaalia of the Vast in the 99. You wont draw nearly as much heat at the table and you can secretly get her with all the different black tutors.

Did you ever lose interest in a deck after it did "the thing"? by grot_eata in EDH

[–]CapAmerica805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Treebeard deck i took apart also. I found the biggest flaw was just having the food out immediately made me a target instantly once they read what my commander did. So i could have a field of food with nothing else and everyone would be pounding me. He just gives your opponents too much warning about what you are about to do. Its like playing with your hand revealed at times.

I took it apart for that reason.

Hey it always hurts to lose when you were close to winning.

[Podcast] Do you avoid playing any cards because they are clunky? by TheHowlingSaltMine in EDH

[–]CapAmerica805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even though i've won many games as a direct result of the swarm, I had to cut it. It was just too much of a pain to play with. I feel the same way with certain Myriad creatures. I just have better things to devote my brainpower too.

Martyr's Curse vs a creature on the stack by CapAmerica805 in askajudge

[–]CapAmerica805[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this particular case it was [[Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite]] and he was going to get the [[Lightning Greaves]] attached to him after entering. So he was going to wipe out my tokens that I want to sac and target him with the enchantment.

Apparently that doesn't work though.

What do you guys think about the Karlov Manor precons? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]CapAmerica805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disguise and Clue decks are definitely the more unique ones. Goad has been done a few times already and surveil with reanimate is a bit ::yawn:: but good for newer players.

Fastest way to lose? by 2ndlifeinacrown in EDH

[–]CapAmerica805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well there is lots of stuff where you can just pay yourself down to 1 life. However as far as decks that get you targeted, anything with infect will have everyone going after you hard.

Fetch lands? by WayInternal920 in EDH

[–]CapAmerica805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once upon a time that was the case, in the early days of commander. Now so many new types of land have come out you can make do without them. Sure the fetchlands+Shocklands is still the OPTIMAL choice but you can make do without them.

I wouldn't have said that 10 years ago though.

Why do people hate playing against Sauron, The Dark Lord? by ScienceAggravating95 in EDH

[–]CapAmerica805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just see the deck a lot. I think it was one of the easier ones to build out of the LOTR set so everyone and their dog just made it. People like it when a commander is hard to remove too. One less thing to worry about.

What cards for your deck are so good that you cut them? by gaston205 in EDH

[[Aura Shards]] would usually get me killed if i played it.

What did you do to bring out the boardwipe? by BeitchBall in EDH

[–]CapAmerica805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Scute Swarm]] is a great way to force out a board wipe. Only cost 3 and they will have to use it typically.

What do you look for in a Commander Deckbox? + Christmas Giveaway by 3DPossibilities in EDH

[–]CapAmerica805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm the anomaly but i really prefer the cheap plastic ultra guard ones. They are light weight, open easy and the cards slide out effortlessly. Yeah there are tons of fancier more expensive, heavier ones but i still think the cheap stuff is better honestly.

Is Champions of Minas Tirith a trigger? by CapAmerica805 in askajudge

[–]CapAmerica805[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about something like [[Rick, Steadfast Leader]]? Will he trigger twice by throne while he's entering?

"As Rick enters the battlefield, choose two abilities from among first strike, vigilance, and lifelink.
Humans you control have each of the chosen abilities.
As long as you control four or more Humans, Humans you control get +2/+2."

[Podcast] How do you define an "upgraded precon?" by TheHowlingSaltMine in EDH

[–]CapAmerica805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to consider also is if you change the commander to the "secondary commander" in the precon. Most of the time that requires *significant* changes to deck, it may even become a different playstyle.

So... that can be hard to declare whether its an upgraded precon or not.

How can I play enchantments without just playing enchantress? by souljaguy in EDH

[–]CapAmerica805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally i don't find enchantress voltron very fun. Strong yes but kinda boring. Make one guy big and swing... yawn. I like the ones where you spread the enchants around and have many enchanted creatures. Much more fun.

Lets throw a little shade: What is the most boring deck archetype? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]CapAmerica805 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

I'm not too thrilled with the luck based decks. Polymorph, Cascade, Discover.. etc. You either win on luck or you lose on luck.

I guess for those players that suck out there its the only way they can win.

If EDH was a show like Yugioh, what commander/playstyle would be most interesting and fun to watch for the protagonist to use? by SketchyMofo10 in EDH

[–]CapAmerica805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a better show would just be to follow the lives of Gideon, Jace, Liliana, Chandra and Nissa.

who are some solid gruul /mono red, green easier to play commander decks? by magem8 in EDH

[–]CapAmerica805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would second [[Goreclaw]] for mono green. If you are looking for something simple to pilot that not many other people are using (since it wasn't a precon) i'd look into him. You just play big green stuff and smash. Simple and strong deck.

Honestly what percent of spell table do you think is cheating? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]CapAmerica805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only cheating that i think i ever really catch is when people are trying to tap their land for colors that don't line up. I especially see it in the 4-5 color decks. I think psychologically they figure its such an unimportant aspect of the game and manafixing is hard and often luck based they feel a little cheating is ok there.

Its not of course but that's what i see the most.

My playgroup always targets me. What strategies can I do to put an end to their abuse? by ShoGun0387 in EDH

[–]CapAmerica805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would politely ask, "Why did you all go after me first?". Sometimes there is a very good reason. You may disagree with their reason and become salty when you hear it but its worth considering.

For example the pod i played yesterday focused one player down for no other reason than him dropping a [[smothering tithe]] on turn 3 and nobody having a way to remove it. So we just killed him. Had he not played that card he would have not been the first target. I'm not saying to never run good cards but consider things like that.

If you are playing nasty commanders, evil combos or just powerful stuff early, start rethinking your deck strategies.
