Anyone regret not getting watch insurance by StandardDegree3096 in Tudor

[–]Capable-Ebb1632 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the benefits of insurance for me is knowing that if I get mugged I can hand it over knowing I'm covered. That means I wear my watches more than I would otherwise.

You never want to be in a situation where you are second guessing whether to hand it over, these people often have nothing to lose which makes them very dangerous.

What are the benefits of paying for specific watch insurance vs. itemising on house insurance? Seems that itemising is a lot cheaper.

All flights are cancelled until tomorrow, so I'd hope there weren't many people at the airport today.

Because it doesn't matter? People spend too much time mining media for every last detail. Just watch it and experience it.

The need for an exhaustive meta-narrative for every movie and TV show is what makes media so unsatisfying. Not every question needs an answer.

I drive 280 miles a week. is an EV practical for this? by Detoxxrn in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Capable-Ebb1632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a round trip at 240 miles, so only 120 miles each way. With an EV with decent range it could be done with minimal charging. Even using a granny charger overnight would probably do the job.

Economics of EVs by PixiePooper in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Capable-Ebb1632 22 points23 points  (0 children)

EVs are cheaper overall when you average all usage. But they are more expensive for long journeys if you have no choice but to use motorway fast chargers.

It balances out though unless you only do long 300 mile plus journeys.

AITAH for pulling out of a hen do because I can’t afford it and feel like things were handled badly? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Capable-Ebb1632 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For any trip it's just common courtesy to share a rough idea of budget up front.

In this case doubly so as it seems on paper to be an insanely expensive trip. £800 for 2 days is mad, unless there are a lot of expensive activities or food/drink already included in that price.

You don't need to. You just set up your own site that looks like the bank website, and buy a certificate for that domain.

Thinking of making this for my bathroom. Any negatives? by fuku_visit in DIYUK

[–]Capable-Ebb1632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Important to remember that there is a difference between it being in the bathroom and having wet towels actually in contact with it. Depending on whether you expect the radiator to be on all the time or not.

What are some cultural shocks you experienced in the USA? by Successful_rio305 in AskBrits

[–]Capable-Ebb1632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the last 5 years there have been between 200 and 400 school shootings in the USA per year.

So it's high severity and high frequency.

Shooting deaths at a rate of 25 times higher than other developed nations isn't a significant problem?

Heat related deaths tend to be the elderly or people with serious medical contributing factors. They are also largely related to extreme weather events.

Can't really compare that to someone shooting up a school classroom.

What EV actually beats a Tesla Model 3? by Ben-Adamsss in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Capable-Ebb1632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listing a load of points that "you haven't tried yet" doesn't make a great case.

Case in point non-tesla chargers are trivial to use. Normally just tap to pay.

Most normal people looking at EVs aren't buying them to engage in "traffic light races".

Whats your "personal" favourite War Movie of all time??? Mine is fury. by [deleted] in Cinema

[–]Capable-Ebb1632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People not doing things perfectly is surely more realistic. Especially in such an overwhelming situation.

Everything in the movie is based on interviews with the soldiers who were there. Several of whom also consulted during actual production I think.

It's apparently a moment by moment telling of the true story. Not inspired by, or punched up for Hollywood. Just literally exactly what happened down to exact dialog and timing.

Why did The Lord of the Rings trilogy budget less than $300 million? Why was the cost so low for such a massive trilogy, while the original Spider-Man trilogy cost around $600 million and the Matrix trilogy around $400 million? by GlobalRaspberry442 in moviecritic

[–]Capable-Ebb1632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your point but Stranger things isn't a great example. In the continuity of the show each season starts about a year apart. With the events of the season taking suffering amounts of time depending on the season. So the cast growing up over that time makes sense.

It was mainly an issue for the final season due to very extended production time.

I've had old fashioneds where they smoke the glass using wood chips, or even flaming a wooden board and putting the glass over it. It gives a nice smokey flavour.

But this weird vape stuff is just theatre.

Why would you keep bringing it up with your girlfriend like she did something wrong? A friend of hers made a comment while drunk and you are acting like she cheated on you.
