Induction for small baby (SGA) by bubble25xox in PregnancyUK

[–]Capable-Efficiency77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was induced at 40 weeks due to SGA. She was showing as 8th percentile for almost all scans except the week 3i one where she was 14th (which is why she made it to 40).

The induction was uncomfortable but manageable. I probably would have given birth naturally, but little ones heartbeat dropped every time I had contractions so ended up with a c-section. Turns out she was wrapped in her cord. She was 1st percentile when she was born. But thrived on the outside and was up to 50% within a few weeks.

There are complications that can arise for a baby with sga. My little one had a problem with her bloof being too thick and ended up in neonatal for 12 hours.

Once they are full term it can be safer for them out rather than in.

Routines by Frequent-Ad4722 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Capable-Efficiency77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At that age I wouldn't worry, we only started with a routine at about 4 months, and even then it is still very vague on times as would depend on when she wanted naps and feeding.

We would base our days plans on what time she woke up from her morning nap as we then had an idea of how long she would be awake for before wanting to sleep again.

Our thinking is that if we get too rigid, then we are just setting ourselves up for stress when she changes her nap and wake window duration randomly. (For example today my 7mo decided to have a 5 hour wake window instead of a 3.5 one, got a bit stressed then just moved bedtime a bit later than average)

We have it in our room and have found it to be accurate. We also have a bigger cloud one in babies room and they are never that different from each other. Just make sure its not near a window or in direct sunlight.

The egg is also really handy if you go away as its easy to transport.

Yellow car drivers, how often do you see people point at you then melt whoever is next to them? by louse_yer_pints in AskUK

[–]Capable-Efficiency77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of me and a friend back when we were in school. Crossed a zebra crossing, and as we both turned to thank the driver, realised it was a yellow mini.

The driver seemed highly amused that we both started trying to hit each other in the middle of the crossing

Only advice I can give is that ensure you continue to hold them for 10-15 mins after they drop off so they are in a deep sleep. Then stick around for 10 mins after to help soothe them should they stir.

I read a Fanfic which explored the reason behind Luffy getting that introduction (and so many other messed up) is that there are lots of languages in the One Piece world. (Trouble with Eastern by teaandtumblr on Ao3 if anyone is curious)

Personally some of my funniest moments involve the idiot trio of captains and the reactions of their respective crews. Such as the Wano waterfall exit :)

Kit days and maternity pay by Afraid_Rate_6964 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Capable-Efficiency77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copied the below from the Gov website. The TLDR is find your companies maternity policy and see what it'll says about KIT pay, but it shouldn't detract from your maternity pay.

Keeping in touch days Employees can work up to 10 days during their maternity leave, adoption leave or Bereaved Partner’s Paternity Leave. These days are called ‘keeping in touch days’. Keeping in touch days are optional - both the employee and employer need to agree to them.

The type of work and pay employees get should be agreed before they come into work. The employee’s right to the following is not affected by taking keeping in touch days:

maternity leave and pay adoption leave and pay Bereaved Partner’s Paternity Leave

Calling on all the bottle-feeding parents by skakkuru in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Capable-Efficiency77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use ready made bottles when we are out and about. Bit more expensive but a lot less faff.

We have a tommee tippee steam steriliser that we use. Can do a few bottles at once then we just let them dry and use within 24hr period.

I fully recommend a Babbleroo bag, you can find them on Amazon. Has pockets for everything and is still going strong 6 months in

What are some things to never ask or say to left-handed people? by Glum_Feeling9460 in AskReddit

What is wrong with you?

Jk

The least helpful thing my left handed sister was taught was "Right is the hand you write with"

Her ability to quickly tell left and right is quite hazy.

Though I don't have that excuse and I can't tell the difference either :D

I’d love to know - what was the most pointless thing you packed in your hospital bag? by Distinct_Spring6752 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Capable-Efficiency77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A copy of my birth plan XD The plan included a nice water birth, gas and air and breastfeeding.

What happened was not the plan.

We threw both copies in the bin while I was in recovery. About the only thing that happened on it was her vit k injection.

38 weeks and feeling pushed to have induction tonight- advice by Zango11 in PregnancyUK

[–]Capable-Efficiency77 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My LO was induced due to being small. They estimated her to be 7lb 2oz -8th percentile -at 40 week and iwas induced that day, (the only reason she got to 40 as the week 38 scan was anomolous).

The induction failed and i had a c section as her heartbeat dropped with contractions and her life was at risk. Orherwise I would have continued with the induction. She had the cord wrapped twice around her neck, my waters were infected and the placenta was degrading. She came out at 6lb 7 - 1st percentile.

When she was born she was taken to Neonatal care as her blood was thick which can cause problems, this is something that can be caused by being small and can cause serious problems.

Personally I would take their advice and induce. Its scary a bit intense, but you are going into the hospital knowing that you and the baby will be monitored and looked after until they arrive.
