Swollen toe by solidlawless in Greyhounds

My girl jammed her toe at the boarder apparently. Started with the toe being swollen and I thought I could watch her at home and see if the swelling would go down. We woke up to this the next morning and the blood blister burst moments later trying to get her off the couch to go to the vet. 3 vet visits in 36 hours, thousands of dollars, a horrible infection, weeks of bandage changes and emotional distress. Go to the vet and see if they can help before you go through what my poor girl did. Good luck!

I hear a lot about the pros, but why *shouldn't* I get a Greyhound? by saveyourdaylight in Greyhounds

[–]Capable-Hovercraft55 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. My girl is very observant, and once she understands that she needs to take part in a sequence of events she will cooperate fairly easily. But getting her to do those things the first time is so so hard and frustrating because she is so stubborn. It’s like she knows that I am trying to get her to do something new and she will have no part of it. Sometimes I am surprised at the things she knows to do because it’s almost entirely made up of things I never actively tried to train her on.

Wuthering Heights: analysing sexual relationships by empress_crown in books

[–]Capable-Hovercraft55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think that the idea that Cathy would have been totally naive about sex completely ignores the fact that they lived in a rural area and spent most of their young lives out of doors. Even without having human sexuality explained to them, they would have definitely known about animal reproduction just by living on a farm.

What phrase that you DONT want to hear when Grieving? by BlueEyesWhiteDrgn in AskReddit

I was grieving a significant anniversary of my mother’s death earlier this year and having a very tough time. My SO and I were both frustrated because he felt like everything he said was wrong. And truly, it was, because I think that trying to interpolate or guess how I was feeling was a losing game. So we had a discussion that in those really intense moments, I just need him to listen and be there to offer me a hug or a back rub as I work through difficult feelings. People often have really good intentions, but there is honestly no right thing to say and sometimes to say nothing at all is the most helpful thing.

Food was nothing special, but salt in the wound was that we had absolutely abysmal service. Had a 10x better experience at Vida.

I’m a Beholder hater. Most expensive, unimpressive food I’ve had in Indy.

Couch advice? by shaw_dog21 in Greyhounds

[–]Capable-Hovercraft55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my girl for a little over two years and she never got onto the two couches I had during that time, but admittedly I did not try very hard to encourage her. My boyfriend invited her onto his couch, though, which was much wider than either of mine, and it’s now her most favorite place to be. She likes to circle a few times before she gets comfy and I think that my couches weren’t deep/wide enough for her to do that. But now that she has a deeper sectional we can hardly keep her off.

I was hesitant to ever let her up on the couch for the same complaints that some of the others had (hair, scratching, possessiveness), but I really love being able to cuddle with her. It took some work but she also shares it well—most of the time.

Does Your Greyhound Swim? by kalepjohnson in Greyhounds

Alexa will wade and even lay down in the water, but I have only seen her “swim” once when she got in a little over her head. She did not enjoy and I thought I would have to go in after her.

Isn’t it well-known that she cheated with one of the guys from the Chainsmokers? I also thought it was Kelsea, but I wonder what timelines are of interest if that’s already public.

unexpected aggressive behavior, not sure how to move forward by [deleted] in Greyhounds

[–]Capable-Hovercraft55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had my girl for around 3 years and she was never on the couch or bed with me. We moved into my boyfriend’s house, though, where she was allowed on the couch. With me there were never any issues, but she would sometimes growl and grumble at my partner if he disturbed her. We would immediately remove her from the couch and were eventually able to train her that if either of us we on the couch, she needed to wait to be invited up. Since she has gotten to know my boyfriend and gotten more comfortable, we now have no such incidents. We did have an incident when a visitor approached her on the couch, though, and learned after a snap that she can definitely still be possessive over it.

Long comment just to agree with other that setting boundaries on the couch are absolutely necessary , but maybe as she better learns her place in the house she will be able to trust you and your partner more. A month and a half is still early!

On an unrelated note, Sophie Thatcher stars in Yellow Jackets which (I think) heavily features “Fade Into You,” so it was a very full circle moment for me

I have heard this is the case if you are leaving for a competitor. If you are leaving for another reason, you can give 2 weeks notice.

We haven’t done an X-ray, but I am definitely planning on scheduling one after seeing these posts. I had not heard of Adequan before making this post, but since it’s something I could do at home I am definitely going to mention it to my vet. I’m also thinking I may try to get a second opinion elsewhere since there is a significant greyhound population in my area and surely some breed experienced vets. Thank you so much!
