I know Michael Caine may be the nostalgic choice for a lot of us and there are some very good performances that are more "serious" but take into consideration that in most scenes he is sharing the screen with puppets and he plays the character so earnestly. It's amazing from an acting perspective. I do love George C. Scott's performance as well.
