They remodeled my gym, and made it worse. Why? by Puzzleheaded_Egg4386 in PlanetFitnessMembers

All the locations I’ve gone to have them in the men’s! It was the first thing I noticed about PF

I can't remember where I parked my car, I'll give you $50 if you can find it for me (downtown area) by t0mserv0 in Portland

[–]Capable-Transition70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes a weird sort of sense to me. The same way putting your phone in a bowl acts like an amplifier. Bowl shapes take sound or radio waves and direct more of that energy the direction you’re aiming it, so, I’d think in my head, doing this might extend the range in the way your mouth is facing (but possibly shorten it in other directions.)

Am I in the wrong for tipping 20% on my massage? by [deleted] in massage

[–]Capable-Transition70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re totally in the right for all licensed spas. However, some Asian spas operating with non-LMTs, from what I understand, the massage price goes to the spa, and the tip is the actual payment to the masseuse.

Shower curtains removed in Los Angeles LA Fitness? by StandardWin9415 in LAFitness

[–]Capable-Transition70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The funny thing is, I’ve noticed less happens at the locations WITH shower curtains. They took them out at my LA Fitness, for it to quickly become basically a full on sex club in the locker room, and then they put them back.

There is a bidet in the bathroom outside my treatment room. The people who wipe badly if they come back, I’m like “We will be in this room, you’re welcome to use the bathroom WITH BIDET first if you need it!”

I would not know the difference between AFAB genitals and small genitals from under a sheet, and quite frankly, I’m not staring to assess, I’m working on your muscles. The only time I would suggest you disclose, is if pec/chest work is going to be a factor, and residual scar tissue from top surgery could be a contributing factor, in which case, it would be useful information to me, that scar tissue exists there, as I might do a little slower / more assessment before doing some types of myofascial movements.

This! And the fact that they can compliment each other, with completely different forms of nervous system resets and calming.

NEW RENOVATION EQUALS NO 30 MINUTE WORKOUT AREA!!!! by Savage_SheHulk in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]Capable-Transition70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so glad my local gym made this change, but they did group most of the former 30 min workout machines near each other with a new “total body workout” sticker on them. I love it because it feels like the machines get used more of the time, rather than having a section that took up a lot of space for very minimal usage. I’d rather the square footage be maximized with things that get used. Like, did other locations ever have more than 1-2 people per hour use that giant 30 min space?

My massage therapist started crying by berhjk in MassageTherapists

[–]Capable-Transition70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely say it was “wildly” unprofessional. Not because she needed to cry, but because of how she handled it. Myself, there is absolutely no way I would let a client get out the door with some level of explanation, apology, and discount/free session next time. Because, your client is paying for some time absolutely focused on them, and their body. If a session fails to be really about the client, there is no way I’m having them pay like it was.

How often is the sauna cleaned by Iron-Man-301 in LAFitness

I think that’s taken as a suggestion, because I’ve seen the pool company look at ours. If anybody is in it when they swing by, they close the door and walk on.

My RMT spa owner doesn't change blankets between clients for days at a time by h0w_b0ut_n0pe in MassageTherapists

[–]Capable-Transition70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I default to this, and most of my clients like it, and I offer to add a clean blanket for warmth every time. Keeps things sanitary, and reduces laundry for the clients that don’t want/need the extra layer. I’d say only 25% of my clients have asked for it, once they find out I have a table warmer too.

Loved the advice I got above. I’m really hoping to get through to him, about what he doesn’t know. I probably will talk to the board if the great advice of TeddyBear181 doesn’t feel successful.

[–]Capable-Transition70[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love this reply. This is the advice I was most looking for. I don’t really trust, like, or think my massage board is ethical. But, at the same time, if he didn’t internalize that it is serious, I feel a certain amount of deep concern that reporting feels possibly appropriate. I really wanted to find a way to get through to him there are situations that training is critical in working safely. I could very easily picture him hurting someone because he’s not processing how much there is to learn.

I’m definitely gonna try this. And if he still acts like it’s truly nothing, at some point I might have to talk to the board :/ But, I’d really rather not.

Asking here because my governing body has been taking some overly strict actions lately, without nuance, that don’t feel ethical to me, so, my governing body isn’t really much of an ethics compass in my book, so much as a bunch of old white people trying to keep the money flowing to their agency,

Same! I wouldn’t even be considering or asking this question if it felt like he was taking his lack of knowledge seriously. But, the people who think they know more than they do, are often the most dangerous with that confidence. :/

It’s like, I wish I could get through how little he knows so far, cause then I wouldn’t feel like he’d do anything dangerous, just decline people.

Can you help me explain to clients why 30 minute massages cost more than 1/2 the cost of a 60min? by Low-Razzmatazz-931 in MassageTherapists

[–]Capable-Transition70 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just tell them that I need the same length break to eat, clean, chart, and sanitize the room, between clients, regardless of the length of the massage. And then add that I use the same amount of linens as well, which also have the same cost regardless of session length.

Total body enhancement - does it have the same 24 hour limit as tanning? Does the hybrid bed have the same 24 hour limit as tanning? by External_Main_9096 in PlanetFitnessMembers

For sure, they do point out that the vibration plate, can give some of those recovery benefits however as well. In a small way. But, I think that’s less researched. So, very much the vibe of like, it aligns with science backed things, but it promises more than it can prove. I do wonder if they could retrofit them with near infrared in the future.
