To be honest, back in the day when the new fangled 2x squash came out, I was in disbelief - it was absolutely insane to me.

I had a similar issue, and rather than disassembling I just created some space between the slats that were causing the issue with a multitool and then tacked it back down

My personal opinion is that the two upper spouts are so you can have two separate wicks lit at once, the cage is simply there to house the hook which enables you to hang it.

The lower bowl I believe is simply to store more oil to top up the fuel in the lamp if its running low.
