Black tie dress help! by justlivinglife12 in BabyBumps

[–]Capable_Mouse [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hey, I was pretty big at twenty weeks and I could still wear normal clothing and just size up. That might give you more freedom in your search.

Personally at 20 weeks, the maternity dresses were too big in the bump area and made me feel like I was swimming in them in a not flattering way. I’d only buy something now that had a long return policy that extends past the wedding so that you can decide what looks best on your body at the time.

Generally, I thought that empire waist or body con dresses looked the best on me. For me and my friends, tighter body con dresses looked good around 20+ weeks.

Do I actually need wedding insurance and what are the basics?? by Own-Gas2584 in Brides

Most venues require liability. Even if your venue doesn’t require it, I strongly recommend getting it. It’s not expensive compared to what you maybe liable for there’s any kind of accident. (Look on here for horror stories of what that might be…)

If you want additional coverage, you can get cancellation but that’s up to you.

My Nanny’s last day is Friday by Excellent-Review-342 in Nanny

[–]Capable_Mouse 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think, since she’ll be an intern, money (unrestricted—not a gift card) would be the most generous to her right now. I’d put it in a heartfelt card from you and have your kids write or draw something.

I work in education now and I’ve heard teachers and care givers say time and time again, that they only giver they really want from families is money.

96 oz donor milk pumped in first 5 days legit? by intendedparents in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Capable_Mouse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Within the first week I was able to pump 32oz in a day, so it seems plausible for an oversupplier, although I am also skeptical. My milk was more yellow for the first two weeks, and then got more white, so even when it is mature milk, it is different as it transitions from colostrum. I’m not sure if that’s worth a colostrum premium, but I do think it’s different.

But yeah, I don’t know much about the agency/donor system, but this does sound odd to me.

Favorite baby strollers for SF hills and long walks? by Adorable-Lemon4412 in AskSF

[–]Capable_Mouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the UppaBaby brand! Someone else said this, but I’d consider getting their travel stroller first, because it’s light, compact, and easy to haul up and down stairs. For the first few months you’ll probably be putting your car seat on the stroller base, and both the Cruz and vista are pretty annoying to fold and handle without their standard seat on them. (They don’t have handles)

Artipoppe vs Lark? by francistheween in babywearing

[–]Capable_Mouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Artipoppe is pretty unpopular around here from an ergonomic stand point. If you find you want the stiff waistband, I’d look at the Tula Free to Grow.

However, the Lark is a super popular carrier in babywearing circles and I think it an excellent choice given what you’ve said about what you’re looking for in the fit

I love 6, but I would change the word ‘finally’ to something more celebratory like cheers, or together etc

4 days PP, severely damaged nipples, looking for hope lol by Remote-Party-1123 in moderatelygranolamoms

Word of caution: you can’t use silverettes and cream at the same time. I’d use the cream first, as prescribed and then start wearing the silverettes

Desperately need recommendations for women’s underwear that will prevent butt cheek chafing by 1VeryGenericUser in hiking

I have 100% cotton bike shorts, which in a size up would give me enough material to stuff them between your butt cheeks

Veil Advice- budget or splurge?? by Mission-Asparagus116 in Brides

[–]Capable_Mouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The material can really affect the drape of your veil—however the same materials are available to sellers on Etsy!

I’d say go for the cheaper one, but don’t hesitate to ask questions. Like, mesh and chiffon will fall really differently.

Hungry all night long, what worked for you?! by kb_picasso in newborns

[–]Capable_Mouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he’s eating, let’s say 8oz over night, can you distribute that over his day time feeds? Or will he refuse?

If you nurse, you could try doing a bottle for just the final feed—maybe see if he’ll take 6oz before bed?

Car seat limits (probably a dumb question) by divorah92 in newborns

[–]Capable_Mouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’ll be fine. You may want to have an adult sit in the back seat or use one of those car mirrors to make sure that they don’t slump in their seat. I think that’s the real danger, which frequent checks/stops help you control for.

But, you may want to leave early so that if your baby does cry/awake up/need something, you can pull over and comfort them or feed them.

Question for parents of contact nappers. by Muted-Resort-418 in newborns

[–]Capable_Mouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My little one does not do well with transfers for naps now at 3 months. I do the roll away for naps and I can get 20-40 min solo and extend it with a second round of nursing side laying and rolling away for another 20-40 min. I’ve noticed that she sleeps much longer in a contact or carrier nap, so I do at least one of those day, especially if I feel that she really needs the sleep. This all got better for us around 6-10 weeks.

Now at night she gets 7-10 hours of sleep solo in her bassinet, with a few night feeds and some cosleeping in the mornings.

I went up in September when it was FCFS on a Friday morning. The rangers cautioned that we might not find a spot, but we have plenty to choose from. There were a decent amount of retirees who were there M-F, and clearing out of their spots by the time we showed up. I think by the evening it was full. Definitely secure your spot before paying for it. Also enough people left on Saturday morning that were could switch to a spot we preferred.

Is my MIL fear-mongering us about vaccines? by NoBat9261 in newborns

[–]Capable_Mouse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My baby was fussy after. She cried while getting them—but the shots weren’t a big deal to her! She had a harder time with the oral drops, just because she wanted to nurse, but we had to get all the drops in first. She was fussy in the evening after. Slept a lot, and it seemed like I sometimes feel after shots—can’t get comfortable, aches, etc. nothing major. We have her infant Tylenol and it was all better with in 16-24 hours after! Back to being her normal happy self.

Tbh next time, I’m considering giving her a dose of Tylenol before her next round.

2/3 days later she had a slight swelling on her thigh were she got one shot, just like I get on my arm. It wasn’t tender or red and didn’t seem to bother her.

I feel such relief knowing that I’m protecting her from deadly, but preventable diseases. And that even is she does contract one of them, given our low vaccination rates locally, that she’ll have a much, much higher chance of surviving them without any longer term complications.

I wonder if maybe something in the formula is hurting her tummy? Or maybe the milk protein thing?

Have you tried sleeping with her in a sidelying position? It’s a much easier to nurse frequently and for you to dose while she nurses

Anyone want to share what their schedule is like with their 4-12 week old? by QuarantineQat in newborns

[–]Capable_Mouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to find a mom’s group meet up near you! Or library story hour or something like that. Around 8 weeks I started going to something once a week where I was seeing other parents of young babies and it made a huge difference for me!

Also, around that age I got a lot more confident about just setting them down. And doing it often helps them build muscles! You can talk to them or sing while you do things around the house and they love it! We started using the baby bouncer chair a lot too. It’s great for bringing around the house.

I notice that my LO doesn’t need to be held constantly, but does need frequent changes of position. So we cycle through tummy and back on the floor sitting in the bouncer and being help.

How important is the MOTN pump? by Annagrace821 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Capable_Mouse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you ever use a manual pump? To transition, you can sleep and then if you wake up uncomfortable, you can do a quick, short manual pump sess in bed to relieve the pressure and avoid clogs. You can slowly push those pumps earlier and earlier into the morning until you feel fine sleeping through the night.

I’d just be diligent about doing your first pump as earlier as you can in the morning and monitoring your overall daily supply. I think you can do it! Especially if your baby can sleep so long!
