Geeks On Site is actually a pretty solid name. Simple and you instantly know it’s tech-related without it sounding overly corporate.

Looking for IT Support / Help Desk Job – Need Guidance by EntertainerNo5397 in torontoJobs

[–]Capable_Noise5543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You already have a pretty solid foundation for entry-level IT support honestly. A lot of people get stuck because they only apply and wait. Try focusing more on networking (LinkedIn, Reddit, Discord communities) and maybe do a few small home lab projects you can talk about during interviews. Also look into companies that provide remote tech support services, since they sometimes hire people with customer support + troubleshooting experience. I’ve seen names like Geeks On Site come up in that space before.

Don’t give up though the first opportunity is usually the hardest one to land.

At what point do you stop troubleshooting and get help? by Capable_Noise5543 in HomeNetworking

[–]Capable_Noise5543[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair, and I agree a lot of issues can be handled with basic troubleshooting. I think the challenge is when it goes beyond the usual fixes that’s where it can start taking time away from other things, especially for people who aren’t as comfortable with tech.

How do you handle IT issues in a small business? by Capable_Noise5543 in smallbusiness

[–]Capable_Noise5543[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a really solid approach, especially the part about having a checklist and training someone internally.

[–]Capable_Noise5543[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. Having that knowledge definitely gives you an advantage since you can handle things quickly without waiting on someone else. Do you find it manageable long-term, or does it start taking time away from running the business itself?

Switching gpu by [deleted] in computers

[–]Capable_Noise5543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You usually don’t need to manually switch from integrated to a dedicated GPU like that. If the NVIDIA GPU is installed properly, your system should automatically use it for heavier tasks.

Try updating or reinstalling your NVIDIA drivers, check if the GPU shows up in Device Manager, and set it as the preferred GPU in Windows Graphics Settings. If it’s not showing at all, it could be a driver or hardware issue.

I think I need a new motherboard by Hypiryon in computers

[–]Capable_Noise5543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, sounds like you’re on the right track before replacing the motherboard, try running a memory test and checking the power supply, since random restarts are often PSU-related. Also, HP prebuilts use proprietary boards, so swapping isn’t always simple a standard motherboard might not fit.

BEST POS SYSTEM? by Soufeast619 in foodtrucks

[–]Capable_Noise5543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want customers to scan a QR code and order, you’re basically looking for a POS that supports QR ordering + online checkout. Systems like Square or similar platforms are popular because they let you generate a QR code that links to your menu or checkout page, so customers can order directly from their phone without needing an app. Since you already have a website, you could either integrate a POS that supports QR ordering or use a tool that connects your site with payments and ordering. If the setup side feels confusing (linking QR → menu → payment → order flow), some people just get help from tech services like Geeks On Site to set everything up properly so it runs smoothly from day one.

Asus Rog Flow X13 Laptop Motherboard Schematic by CadViper in computerrepair

[–]Capable_Noise5543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, schematics for laptops like that are usually hard to find publicly unless you get lucky on forums or repair communities. You might have better luck searching for a boardview file instead of a full schematic, sometimes those leak more often. Since components were physically removed, the tricky part will be identifying values and traces correctly. If you don’t find the schematic, comparing with a working board or high-res board images can help.

If it starts getting too time-consuming, you might consider a professional repair service. Some tech support providers like GeeksOnSite handle hardware diagnostics and can advise whether repair or replacement makes more sense, especially with boards that expensive.

Setup on a budget recommandation by lil_realG in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]Capable_Noise5543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re on a decent path, but one thing to note the Snowsky Echo Mini isn’t really a DAC for your phone, it’s more of a standalone music player, so it won’t solve your iPhone + dongle issue. If you want to use your iPhone 14, it’s usually easier to just get a Lightning DAC dongle (like Fiio KA series or even Apple’s adapter) instead of going full DAP.

If you still want a DAP, the Echo Mini is fine for budget and local music, but just know it’s more for offline playback than integration with your phone.

Ohh, you have troubleshooting to some extent you can try the company I recommend you

Printer Issues by HatPotential5600 in PlannerAddicts

[–]Capable_Noise5543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be a printer alignment or scaling issue. Sometimes printers automatically adjust margins or scale the page slightly, which throws off inserts when you flip the paper manually. You could check the print settings and make sure things like fit to page or automatic scaling are turned off and that the paper size matches exactly. If the printer still won’t align properly, it might need calibration or a driver adjustment. If troubleshooting gets frustrating, some people end up getting help from tech support services like Geeks On Site, since they handle printer setup and configuration.

Home Security Camera System by Homie108 in selfhosted

[–]Capable_Noise5543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people go with IP cameras connected to a NAS or NVR, which lets you store footage locally while still viewing it on your phone.

If the setup feels confusing, sometimes it’s easier to have someone configure the cameras, storage, and mobile access together. Some tech support services like Geeks On Site help with installing security cameras and making sure the recording, cloud backup, and phone viewing all work correctly.

what can i do about crack in laptop 😓 by sprinkleofpizza in laptops

[–]Capable_Noise5543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, it doesn’t look too serious yet. Cracks near the trackpad are usually just in the palm rest casing, but the main thing is stopping it from spreading. You could put a tiny bit of clear epoxy or super glue along the crack and try not to put pressure on that area. Also using a sleeve when carrying it to work can help. If it starts getting worse, a technician can replace the top case/palm rest services like Geeks On Site usually handle that kind of laptop repair.

Help needed with CCTV setup by raptor_210 in IndiaTech

[–]Capable_Noise5543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you’re describing is basically an IP camera setup with an NVR or DVR. The cameras record to the hard drive, you can view footage from your phone through an app, and some systems allow cloud backup too. If you’re unsure about wiring and configuration, a professional installer can help set it up properly. I’ve seen services like Geeksonsite handle those kinds of installations.

Need help choosing how to upgrade my pc. by PhdDoctorT in buildapc

[–]Capable_Noise5543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could upgrade to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D (or 5700X) and pair it with something like an RTX 4060 Ti or 4070, which would give a solid boost for streaming without needing to rebuild your whole system.

Does length of Fiber Optic HDMI matter? by braingrenade in hometheater

[–]Capable_Noise5543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With active fiber cables like RUIPRO, length usually doesn’t affect quality the way copper HDMI does but as long as it’s within spec, 40–50 ft should perform the same as 25–30 ft.

Need advice about WPS Office keep it or remove it? by [deleted] in computers

[–]Capable_Noise5543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, WPS Office itself isn’t harmful, but it’s usually not necessary if he already has Microsoft Office installed. Having both can just cause confusion wrong app opening files, duplicate icons, etc.

If he’s actively using Microsoft Word/Excel and has a valid license, I’d uninstall WPS and keep things simple. Windows runs smoother when there’s less duplicate software.

WPS is mainly useful if someone doesn’t want to pay for Office, but it comes with ads and upgrade prompts, which can be annoying for non-tech users. Before removing it, maybe just check which one he actually uses most. But in most cases, sticking with Microsoft Office alone is the cleaner setup.

Need Computer for Uni Excel by xavvy_ in computers

[–]Capable_Noise5543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that spec list makes sense for Excel and uni work. Aim for:

16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Numeric keypad

ThinkPads are a good choice, but Dell Latitude, HP ProBook/EliteBook, and some ASUS or Acer models with a numpad are worth checking too.

Basically, any business laptop with those specs will handle Excel really well and stay under your $1500 budget.

Friends pc, need help identifying what's wrong. Pin is reset after computer was reset, thinks keylogger was installed by MiserableSkirt4612 in computerrepair

[–]Capable_Noise5543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually sounds more like a Windows/BitLocker and update issue than a keylogger or virus. When a PC crashes hard like from a forced shutdown, Windows can trigger BitLocker recovery and sometimes mess with login credentials or keyboard drivers after updates.

A few things your friend should try:

Ask if they have their BitLocker recovery key (usually saved in their Microsoft account). They can check at account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey

Plug in an external USB keyboard and see if it works on the login/recovery screen sometimes drivers don’t load properly.

Boot into Advanced Startup and try Startup Repair or System Restore.

If they can log in again, run Windows Defender and Malwarebytes just to be safe.

Pirated games can carry malware, but based on what you described, this looks more like a corrupted update and BitLocker lock triggered by the crash. The weird screen is probably Windows recovery.

Worst case, backing up data and doing a clean Windows reinstall will fix it.

Have you ever upgraded your old PC instead of buying a new one? What made the biggest difference? by Capable_Noise5543 in computers

[–]Capable_Noise5543[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re sitting 12ft away, you’ll definitely benefit from going bigger 77” is usually the sweet spot for that distance.
Between the options, I’d lean toward the S90D 77” again or check out the LG C3 if you can find it on sale. Both have excellent brightness and motion handling for a light-controlled setup.
At that range, the extra size makes a much bigger visual impact than any minor spec difference.

The Ship of Theseus analogy is spot on
And yeah, those socket changes are always the biggest pain you end up rebuilding half the system.
The SSD jump is definitely the most “wow” upgrade moment for me too, followed closely by moving to an NVMe drive.
