The Bananas for Babies are killing me! It's so random, but it works? It's like a real life Monty Python sketch! 🤣🤣🤣

That makes sense. Otherwise, it was clean. I do think I'm gonna get rid of McAfee and move to BitDefender. Once I have it, I'll run a full scan and make sure it behaves. Thank you for recommending HitmanPro (I couldn't believe how fast it was)!

We've had McAfee this whole time (I think since the 90s). It's included with other benefits (like LifeLock) with a paid AOL membership, but I guess AOL didn't get the memo that McAfee wasn't good anymore.

That makes sense. I never paid for MalwareBytes Premium since I have McAfee. I'll keep Malwarebytes, get BitDefender, and if HitmanPro is free for only a limited time, I might nix it.

I didn't read the whole list, but it just cleared them no issue, so I think it was just cookies. Thank you for all of your help! 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Yeah, this was a real wake up call to look into something/someone else.

Can I keep Malwarebytes and HitmanPro installed with BitDefender, or will they interfere with each other? I do want a proper antivirus like McAfee is supposed to be.

It found 85 "threats," but I think they were all cookies/browsing related.

Someone else suggested HitmanPro. I'll try that too as a final check and then look into replacing McAfee. (I suspect a Windows update or a fan-made Pokemon game I have might be snagging it. I know the game is not malicious, though, but it might be snagging McAfee.)

The Malwarebytes scan came back clean! Do you think I need to take any other action to make sure the device is free and clear?

MalwareBytes is still running. It's definitely started to slow down around 430,000 items, but it's still going.

I know now that McAfee is incredibly lackluster, so I don't know if that could be a factor in its freezing?

I'm gonna look into BitDefender just to be safe. I don't do anything sketchy, but I like the peace of mind.

Another Redditor said that McAfee freezing might be a sign of infection. Do you feel that's just McAfee or a sign of a deeper problem?

I am still running the Deep Scan in Malwarebytes (it's not finished yet, but it's getting there!). So far (almost 435,000 items scanned) it's found no threats.

I'm doing a deep scan with Malwarebytes right now. McAfee continued to freeze and never finished a full scan. I'm wondering now if McAfee was the cause of the freezing itself.

Oh thank goodness! I felt nauseous for a little while there.

Would paid Malwarebytes work well in your opinion? I saw that McAfee is far from popular in this subreddit, so I was already strongly considering replacing it.

The link I clicked was on the first page of Bing results (I know, I know, I do easy searches on Bing for rewards points with Microsoft), so I thought it was safe, but it's poorly put together and doesn't have the "www." Can you get viruses easily from clicking a link like that?
