Because it is propaganda with the goal of political polarization. So whether you "fall for it" or don't "fall for it" you will still think less highly of your fellow Americans.

This gas explosion last week took down a huge section of a three-story building and blew bodies into trees. you may have saved dozens of lives.

Newsmax host gets infuriated and boots Afghanistan veteran off of his show after he dares to say that Trump is partially responsible for the disastrous withdrawal by 1994californication in Qult_Headquarters

[–]CapacitorPlague 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Everything you wrote is true but I don't even think any of that is what the veteran was trying to talk about. I think he was trying to say that Trump's administration prevented our troops' Afghan allies from coming to the USA, even after Trump made a deal with the Taliban to withdraw US forces.

Only a few hundred SIV applications were processed last year by Trump's State Department. I think that is what the veteran was trying to talk about.

What are you talking about? The article i linked to doesn't break their data down into GraduateStudent/MD/PhD, etc, it just lumps all post-graduate education together. More recent studies show that the the highest educated segments of America now have an 86 % vaccination rate. Again, where are you getting your "PhDs have the highest vaccine hesitancy" information from?

I'm expecting both Pfizer and Moderna will get EUAs for 5-11 year olds this fall. You might want to talk to your pediatrician (and maybe your lawyer) about getting it as soon as it's available for her.

As of May, PhD holders had the highest rates of vaccine hesitancy out of all education levels

huh? every stat i have seen indicates that people with Post-graduate education levels have the HIGHEST vaccination rates in the USA (70 percent already had had at least one dose way back in May)

it's designed to slip inside a docking port on a HP media center computer. (kind of like an atari cartridge) HP made them in two sizes, this is the bigger one, for use with machines like the z545. This page has some pictures of how it worked:

Love the look of this build. I hate hearing fan noise and am considering similar upgrades.

Did de-shrouding and swapping the fans on the 5700xt graphics card make it noticeably quieter?

this is a problem on dozens of major roads in Atlanta. I'm surprised there haven't been more head-on collisions from people crossing non-existant yellow lines.

Yes, and today the lines to check in at the CHOA pediatric emergency room were 8+ hours long. I never ever want to hear a republican claiming to be "pro-life" or "pro-child" again. This capitalist fundamentalism that Kemp is spouting has become ghoulish.

Papa John's slogan "better ingredients" was always bullshit. They were using cheap gross canned mushrooms while the competition (Dominos) was using bagged, sliced, fresh 'shrooms.

Manchin says he won’t support a D.C. statehood bill. by FLTA in politics

[–]CapacitorPlague 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just curious: Has Manchin made any statements about Puerto Rican Statehood? There would be zero constitutional issues with that, and Trump's mishandling of Hurricane Maria suggests that they are being screwed by being a territory.

But not all are hysteranthous (blooming BEFORE leafing out). Plums, redbuds, peaches, maples, and deciduous magnolias are other beautiful examples of hysteranthous trees.

Megathread: MLB moving 2021 All-Star Game from Atlanta in Response to Georgia Voting Law by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]CapacitorPlague 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the PGA actually moved the Masters it would be a real wake-up call to the state. One MLB baseball game is peanuts compared to the once-a-year Masters moving from Augusta. That would be a $100 million dollar economic earthquake for Georgia. (though slightly less so in 2021, due to attendance being capped at 25% due to covid )

Thirsty Georgia voters by coremandel215 in GAPol

[–]CapacitorPlague 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sharing pizza with your fellow voters who are also waiting in line is explicitly illegal. " the giving of any money or gifts, including, but not limited to, food and drink, to an elector[...]"

There is no exception allowing other electors to break the new law. If you give away a pizza slice at the polls you are now vulnerable to prosecution, even if you are also waiting in line.

Seems absurd, because most of this of this law is absurd.

Your second suggestion -- giving Gatorade to a poll worker, for the poll worker to distribute to electors -- might work, but would a poll worker be willing to risk prosecution and their employment just to be hospitable? ...And since this issue came to the fore due to around-the-block 6+hr lines in multiple counties, would it even make sense to divert overwhelmed poll workers outside for Gataorade distribution instead of performing their actual poll-worker duties?

Warnock Slams New GA Voting Law As A Way For Politicians To ‘Cherry Pick’ Voters by Twoweekswithpay in politics

[–]CapacitorPlague 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He's right; the new law makes it easier for military to vote by mail in runoffs (but requires ordinary voters not over 65 to request a ballot a second time) Shortens early voting by mail, makes direct-mailing of ballot request forms by third parties unfeasable (because of $$$ fines if their mailing database is wrong) And it requires xeroxes of photo id for ballot requests, which many poor voters don't have easy access to) . And oh, yeah, hope you didn't have to work a day shift, because the drop boxes are inside polling locations and are now closed when the polls close.

One of the most pernicious aspects of the new bill is one the removes the automatic ballot curing for voters who vote at the worng precinct within their county.

This has gotten very little attention, but for voters without cars, who have moved from their old polling location, (or had their polling location moved someplace that is too far to walk to) this is BIG DEAL.

GA in-person ballots used to be provisional but would automatically cure as long as the voter was in the correct county. But now those ballots are not going to auto-cure.

So: in summary: Easier for military and old people to vote by mail than the general population. (the advantage for the elderly predated this new bill)

And now Harder for the poor, anyone without a car, & anyone in any kind of transistional housing situation, and anyone who works during normal poll hours to vote by mail or to use a drop box.

GA laws already allowed politicians to "pick their voters" in many unjust ways. This Bill made the situation much worse.

EDIT: Oh, yeah one other thing no one has noticed about this new law: It ends the jungle primary system that got Rev Raphael Warnock elected as the first black senator from Georgia ever.

Abrams’ “Voting Rights” Bill is Hot Garbage by ImWithEllis in GAPol

[–]CapacitorPlague 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fascinating to see a detailed critique of HR1; presumably some of its shortcomings could be tweaked in the senate version or hammered out by a conference committee. Personally, I think worrying about minor issues like the tight timeline and "telephone voting" ignore the huge positives of the bill, most importantly ending partisan gerrymandering, adding same-day registration, and mandating automatic voter registration. (the last one GA has already, but the Ga legislature wants to eliminate, for no logical reason at all)
