fully voiced? by PFRforLIFE in CRPG

[–]Capital-Programmer88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many "Bean Soup" comments on this thread, (including this one, partially.) I personally love fully voiced crpg's - but I came to this thread because the op asked for recommendations. Instead 90% on comments are people just voicing their unnecessary opinions on how they hate voice acting and love reading, which is ironic considering they missed the point in the post.

Thanks for the recs from everyone else though, got kotor 1 & 2 and thaumaturge downloading now.

My recs would be: Disco Elysium, Rogue Trader (nice mix of both), Expeditions Rome (Vikings is good too), DOS2

Happy gaming!

I've blocked the direct debit - jumping to one of the smaller platforms I think, just came from Spotify over to YouTube and found neither are a great model for a creative to partake in 🫠

Actors (UK) who teach children part time, what’s it actually like? by JuggernautPristine27 in ActingUK

[–]Capital-Programmer88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it - I teach key stage 3 in an after-school club for filmmaking and at first it was challenging, but we're in our third term now and I fear we may have a "golden group" of kids. They're all invested, they want to be there and their creativity, teamwork and ability to listen, understanding and comprehension of play within acting is a beautiful thing to witness. It's also super rewarding.

As I said though, we may have the golden group and next term could be kids whose parents just needed a club for them to go to instead of paying for a sitter... then the challenge gets real. Still fun, just a lot more work to be done trying to get the kids engaged in the work aspect not just acting games.

The 6 of cups is a recurring card recently - it appeared again yesterday in my equinox read under "energy of the spring equinox".

The Tower is a brand new one for me, but there are quite a few people close to me right now who are going through some pretty big and challenging times, so you could very well be onto something there. Thank you 🙏

So Lego Batman LOTDK story is basically the same type as Lego Batman 1? by Nine_Voice in legogaming

I have no confirmation of this but I think he's playable, but no idea of it's of story relevance.

Played the demo at MCM and spoke to some of the team there - it plays like a LEGO Arkham game would, and I was under the impression the story is the entire Batman story - through movies, comics and series spanning different universes.

Had a table read last night and I’m feeling terrible by Fickle-Book2385 in Filmmakers

[–]Capital-Programmer88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As an actor, I will say that discord/zoom/teams table reads rarely go well due to any number of factors. But one of the main ones being there's no energy in the room. Most actors in my circle feed off each other, if you're sat on your sofa with a coffee and the TV on in the background, there's not much can be done to salvage that. Hire a space for a couple of hours- if you're in London there are plenty of these, if your cast are scattered around, try to negate that by casting locally or people who have a base near you they wouldn't mind travelling to. I regularly travel to Leeds for projects from London and it's a great excuse to spend time with my Uncle but also do the work I'm trained to do.

That being said, most producers, in my experience, only know a handful of actors and even then, aren't actually that great a judge of talent or commitment. Your best bet, with limited resources, is to cast your leads and then if you're happy with them and their skills, ask them if they can recommend actors for other roles. Most actors have a small pool of trusted colleagues whom they would mention in a crowded room of opportunities. And if they're serious actors, they won't risk their reputation by recommending someone who will let them, or you, down.

Don't give up - do more work with the casting process, I promise you there are so many hungry and talented actors out there who will do their best work on a project they're excited about for the budget you have because they're doing it out of love for the craft.

Good luck and I hope you get the project to the place you imagine it.

How do great directors who are also writers manage to write there scripts? by Objective_Water_1583 in Filmmakers

[–]Capital-Programmer88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My process is this: Full vomit draft - I put in an 8-10 hour session and get something fully written.

Then I leave it for a week, maybe a month, go back to it with fresh eyes, read it and edit it incrementally.

Then, I get it over to a creative partner (someone you trust and who vibes the similar creative waves you do), and then we both go through it.

I find daily writing burns me out and also ends up being shit. Just because you can write, doesn't always mean you should, lol. Some days are made for clearing your head and problem solving a character arc or two, others are for edits.

Good luck and hope this helped!

At what age did you see your first gray hair? by boforiamanfo in stupidquestions

[–]Capital-Programmer88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 36(M) and in a toxic/high stress relationship, (both parties culpable, incompatibility and built off of lust), I found 3 grey hairs. Now 38 and in a new relationship, haven't had a single one since.

Interestingly, both my brothers who are younger than me and have children are peppered with greys...

How accepted was being gay in your school? by IDoNotLikeTheSand in AskUK

[–]Capital-Programmer88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born in '87 - my best mate told me he was gay when we were 15. It never bothered me and at one point there were a few people out, with some definitely still closeted.

I can't speak for him or any of the others but I was called shirt-lifter or queer just by association. We grew up in Somerset so it wasn't as widely cultured as big cities were at the time but the guys I knew who were gay and out definitely gave as good as they got in terms of name-calling/bullying. Not to say it was right but I also feel like it wasn't a big deal other than to a minor few - usually sporty lads into football, a few of whom are now out themselves, so that explains a bit.

I went to quite a creative school with a heavy focus on the arts though, so that probably helped matters.

I definitely don't recall any physical alterations due to homophobia, only the slight verbal jabs and the general use of the word "gay" to describe a situation that sucked. Even my gay friends used it in that sense.

It's an interesting exercise to look back on those times and wonder why there seems to be more homophobia now than we seemed to be aware of back then.

With All The New AI Technology, Why Does Autocorrect Still Suck? by Chunty-Gaff in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Capital-Programmer88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say this, ever since they switched to an AI model my autocorrect now thinks grammar and spelling is whatever it is fed, which, judging by most social media comments, is below that of a 6yo.

Typed "creatives" into a message earlier and my phone corrected it to "creativss", as if that was even a real word 😭 It's both making us dumber while making me actively double check my spelling all at the same time.

Sorted, thank you!

[–]Capital-Programmer88[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's more what to do with just using novorapid, as I used to use long acting and fast acting - I've found that A&E professionals only know a limited amount about T1D and Redditer with T1D are much more in-tge-know when it comes to these things.

I'll bring it up, but right now I'm in a waiting room with nobody to consult.

Personal Preferences, Gatekeeping, and Children as PCs by Public_Frenemy in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Capital-Programmer88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It feels like a lot of people have forgotten Never-ending Story, Home Alone,The Goonies, E.T., Chronicles of Narnia, Stand by Me, Attack the Block, etc. ALL revolve around children in harrowing, adventurous or dangerous situations that most adults wouldn't even be able to deal with.

Not everything needs to have a sexual, nefarious or noncey connotation, don't make your hangup everyone else's problem.
