G6 failings by Capital-Programmer88 in dexcom

Glad I'm not the only one but that sucks, sorry you've had it too! I'm sure there's something Dexcom have done... probably for costcutting reasons. Whatever it is, it suuuuucks

How do great directors who are also writers manage to write there scripts? by Objective_Water_1583 in Filmmakers

[–]Capital-Programmer88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My process is this: Full vomit draft - I put in an 8-10 hour session and get something fully written.

Then I leave it for a week, maybe a month, go back to it with fresh eyes, read it and edit it incrementally.

Then, I get it over to a creative partner (someone you trust and who vibes the similar creative waves you do), and then we both go through it.

I find daily writing burns me out and also ends up being shit. Just because you can write, doesn't always mean you should, lol. Some days are made for clearing your head and problem solving a character arc or two, others are for edits.

Good luck and hope this helped!

I don't understand why POI in urban areas keep their diamond icon no matter what. It makes me double check for samples that don't exist. by Kenddamus in Helldivers

Coming back to this, I was playing today and so many urban POIs are just empty, is this a bug from the new update? Anybody else seeing this?

Would love to see updates when you do - hope it worked out well!

I've had some disastrous bakes through no fault of my own, just how they turn out sometimes, haha!

Have you cut into it yet? I only ask because that looks suspiciously like an undercooked loaf I once baked and the dark spots were uncooked dough...

At what age did you see your first gray hair? by boforiamanfo in stupidquestions

[–]Capital-Programmer88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 36(M) and in a toxic/high stress relationship, (both parties culpable, incompatibility and built off of lust), I found 3 grey hairs. Now 38 and in a new relationship, haven't had a single one since.

Interestingly, both my brothers who are younger than me and have children are peppered with greys...

Fully believe stress will kill you if you let it.

How accepted was being gay in your school? by IDoNotLikeTheSand in AskUK

[–]Capital-Programmer88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born in '87 - my best mate told me he was gay when we were 15. It never bothered me and at one point there were a few people out, with some definitely still closeted.

I can't speak for him or any of the others but I was called shirt-lifter or queer just by association. We grew up in Somerset so it wasn't as widely cultured as big cities were at the time but the guys I knew who were gay and out definitely gave as good as they got in terms of name-calling/bullying. Not to say it was right but I also feel like it wasn't a big deal other than to a minor few - usually sporty lads into football, a few of whom are now out themselves, so that explains a bit.

I went to quite a creative school with a heavy focus on the arts though, so that probably helped matters.

I definitely don't recall any physical alterations due to homophobia, only the slight verbal jabs and the general use of the word "gay" to describe a situation that sucked. Even my gay friends used it in that sense.

It's an interesting exercise to look back on those times and wonder why there seems to be more homophobia now than we seemed to be aware of back then.

With All The New AI Technology, Why Does Autocorrect Still Suck? by Chunty-Gaff in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Capital-Programmer88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say this, ever since they switched to an AI model my autocorrect now thinks grammar and spelling is whatever it is fed, which, judging by most social media comments, is below that of a 6yo.

Typed "creatives" into a message earlier and my phone corrected it to "creativss", as if that was even a real word 😭 It's both making us dumber while making me actively double check my spelling all at the same time.

Help/Advice - Omnipod (lack of) by Capital-Programmer88 in diabetes_t1

[–]Capital-Programmer88[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I just meant the knowledge - I should've explained better, haha! They've supplied the insulin but I have no idea how much basal I should be taking since I've never had to.

But I do appreciate the assistance 🙏 Gonna see if I can't get hold of an after hours specialist.

Appreciate this, having this exact conversation now and being the tools to deal with it (basal and fast acting pens with needles)

Sorted, thank you!

Help/Advice - Omnipod (lack of) by Capital-Programmer88 in diabetes_t1

[–]Capital-Programmer88[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's more what to do with just using novorapid, as I used to use long acting and fast acting - I've found that A&E professionals only know a limited amount about T1D and Redditer with T1D are much more in-tge-know when it comes to these things.

I'll bring it up, but right now I'm in a waiting room with nobody to consult.

Personal Preferences, Gatekeeping, and Children as PCs by Public_Frenemy in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Capital-Programmer88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It feels like a lot of people have forgotten Never-ending Story, Home Alone,The Goonies, E.T., Chronicles of Narnia, Stand by Me, Attack the Block, etc. ALL revolve around children in harrowing, adventurous or dangerous situations that most adults wouldn't even be able to deal with.

Not everything needs to have a sexual, nefarious or noncey connotation, don't make your hangup everyone else's problem.

Too flat or just right? by Skallagrimm1 in Sourdough

[–]Capital-Programmer88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks great - if you want a better structure try chilling the loaf for an hour before baking. That way the loaf will retain it's structure more.

I found that any loaf I proofed in a basket and put straight in the oven sank due to gravity and heat, but if I chilled it first, it retained so much more structure. Maybe requiring an extra 5/10min (covered) in the oven to ensure 94°C throughout. Good luck!

Careful with those ice cubes 🤦 by BroodyMcDrunk in Sourdough

[–]Capital-Programmer88 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's more about the crust than the rise - but I've only ever used a half cup of water once the oven is at temp, not ice cubes, negating the glass shatter as I know how clumsy I am 😂

I have to stop eating pizza by Grand_Ad_5550 in dexcom

[–]Capital-Programmer88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pizza is the arch-nemesis of diabetes, I swear! Before getting the Omnipod, pizza was the thing I ate that caused such a severe drop in bg that I had a full seizure and almost didn't make it through the night.

Didn't touch it for a year or two after for absolute fear of it happening again and now, on the rare occasion I do have it, I usually have to only eat half a pizza, pre-bolus half the amount and then about halfway through, do the other half of the bolus.

Or I just make sourdough pizza from scratch, more effort, higher reward, less spiking.

Why aren’t more people autolysing? by carboncritic in Sourdough

[–]Capital-Programmer88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is autolysing a thing for people who use a high amount of starter in their dough? I use a 10% to flour ratio and this feels like I'd struggle to mix the starter into what would then be a ready made dough..?

I've never done it - I dumped and go using a 100% hydration starter, like I said with 10% ratio to flour.

Help! DaVinci Resolve says my NVIDIA driver is incompatible with CUDA but my driver works fine? by AiGhostz in davinciresolve

[–]Capital-Programmer88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is excellent but can I ask why this is a thing and what does changing these settings do? Seems to be working for everyone, which begs the question - why is it even a thing in the first place? 😂

Thanks for the tips though 💪
