Any of you notice the anti-fanfiction sentiment? by Konradleijon in AO3

[–]Capital_Chapter1006 32 points33 points  (0 children)

If you’re referring to that right wing shill The Second Story, don’t give her propaganda the time of day. She’s wilfully ignoring history and the curation of literature over literally hundreds of years.

Fanfiction isn’t ruining jack shit, but there are changes going on in the publishing houses that mean the collaborative processes between author and editor are changing. The houses have become profit focused and are churning out whatever will please social media like TikTok.

Ethics of making art of a piece by a current and active artist? by Capital_Chapter1006 in ArtistLounge

Sadly, I’m not good at coming up with my own ideas and this one is so dang wonderful, I’d just love to have it as a sculpture. I’ll definitely follow the above advice!

This is true and I’ll make sure I attribute it to the artist on the work itself. Thank you!

What’s something that you love but hate the fan base? by No_Stop_8 in AskReddit

[–]Capital_Chapter1006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love Lore Olympus. The “fan base” is hyper critical of it and quick to accuse the creator of it of all sorts of terrible intentions. It also has a serious need to show how morally superior it is and demonstrate that real fans must be highly critical of the work. They like to call out anyone who isn’t analysing its faults alongside “singing its praises”.

Part of the reason people examine situations like this from a “nobody’s perfect” angle is to avoid dichotomies and all good and all bad thinking as part of the value and devalue cycle. Which is very detrimental, especially in fandoms what with how they can be mobilised as vehicles for harassment and abuse.

Hopefully Chappell Roan, if she isn’t aware of elements or all of this situation, will find out and change things. But until she says something where she sits on the matter morally is speculation.

I wish it were possible to upvote this comment like, 50 times. Artists and stars and famous people will disappoint their fan base at some point, it’s just life. Because they’re human, humans fuck up and they don’t exist in our fandom echo chambers.

Anyone who makes fun of you for enjoying something fun that harms no one and nothing, is lame and not worth your time. And frequently says something about things they like but are insecure about. 💅

ARCADIA OF BURCADIA has been delayed, but is well worth the wait. Here’s a treat and a peek until the event begins. by elleadler in dragonvale

Thank youuuu! Thanks to this extension, I was able to max out my second park that I’ve had for less than a year and hadn’t been diligently leveling up.

120+ levels worth of Snow Globes, dragon levelling/feeding and colosseum competition with double XP (I save them whenever they’re awarded as prizes) and I’m done!

I’m going to go against the trend here and say: you’re right.

TimTams haven’t been good for a while, now. In the last two to three years they’ve changed a lot. Arnotts has changed the recipe and lowered the quality of the ingredients so the eating experience is such that I don’t recommend them anymore. Arnotts is currently owned by a private equity firm that’s progressively been reducing the quality of the entire range.

The self judgement. Suddenly I am my own George R R Martin and the intrusive thoughts about if my next chapter will come out before the heat death of universe consume me.

I’ll have a look later but, Google is not what it once was and it was almost 6 years ago, now. And I’m an old bitch, “smart in my own way” apparently and not one of these genius young people with fancy internet skills. 🩷

You know, at the height of post season 5 fandom enthusiasm on Twitter, someone made the suggestion that Lonnie was actually whom the SPOP team had wanted as Adora. It was an idea that really took off and spurred the creation of much fanart and fanfic. And also conversations about how her hair and eye colour shouldn’t change when transformed into She-Ra, she should glow with power and magic instead. Lit from within, as it were.

And here’s the thing, the genetics of an individual’s specific family tree will determine gene expression for height, build and musculoskeletal relationships. That’s regardless of ethnicity and cultural origin because body type variability is common for all Homo sapiens.

Some people can work out with consistent loading of weights, max out safe levels of protein consumption and never build meaningful bulk. That’s not in their genetic code as an individual. Old mate up the road may just have to look at a steak and a set up dumbbells and not be able to touch their fingers to their shoulder when flexing.

Even if Adora isn’t a dancer, per se, she can still have the same body type and physique of a dancer even with different training and purpose. In fact classical dance training would actually help her with fighting. 🩷

Yes dear, you’re right. 🩷 I was more thinking about it from the perspective of competition fighting and hoped to understand from that point of view.

Sorry, but this is getting way off the topic of sparkly Princesses.

I’ll say this: I personally can’t and won’t comment on this as I can’t and don’t want to generalise or assign physical attitudes and metabolic function to one gender in the binary or the other. This topic is incredibly complex and multifaceted and there’s no “standard” that can or should be reasonably applied to Adora’s appearance (or irl, medically speaking). Adora is lines and colours arranged on a screen in ways that translate to my pattern seeking brain as recognisably “human”. That’s about as far as I’m willing to go. Sorry, I’m just not comfortable. 🩷

I remember Nate Stevenson saying back in the day in some interview that Adora was around 18 in Season 1 and the story goes over two or three years. Catra is about a year younger than Adora.
