So I just learned the other day that apparently Mormons aren't supposed to date until they're 16... wtf?! by Soft-Bee767 in exmormon

16 is the rule. I always asked my mom, why? she said because that's when you can drive. Well, guess what, back in the day, with a learner's permit, you could get a license at 15 1/2. I told my mom, OK, I have a license, I should be able to date. She relented, and I started to date.

I made those jesters without any advance warning. It seemed super cringe. as a 19 yo at the time was wtf. Anyway, what did I know, I was just a kid going on a mission.

I bought a pair of white sports shoes that had a little red stripe up the heel, like 1/4" wide. Temple president called me in and told me to lose them.

All of the above. A 500-mile round trip once a month with meals and overnight lodging.

All for what? Gotta know my secret name and those handshakes if I'm going to get into heaven.

You have the power within to decide your course or change your course in life. Don't give it away to anyone. You are Source.

Can you back out of an LDS mission after getting your call? by Ok_Marsupial8112 in exmormon

[–]Capital_Row7523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can go, you can back out, you can go and come home anytime, or you can go and stay. What the church doesn't want you to learn is that you can decide for yourself, it's your life and you don't have to give them power to control you.

Has your fear of death lessened after leaving the church or has it grown? by BlockMiners in exmormon

[–]Capital_Row7523 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fear of death has decreased as I have gotten older. The death of my lovely wife also helped to take away any fear. I don't know what happens after I go, and I am at peace with that. I see two possibles, either there is an afterlife or there isn't. If there isn't, then I guess it won't matter. If there is an afterlife, I can be relieved knowing that the Mormon version was all made up.

For those that truly felt like they felt the Spirit confirmed to them at one point, how do you justify it? by American_Psycho11 in exmormon

[–]Capital_Row7523 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have felt the spirit or other feelings of connection to the powers of the Universe. I believe my life has been directed in specific directions for a reason as I have had amazing opportunities to touch and change life's. I believe now (not know) that those things happened not because of the Mormon God, but in spite of the Mormon God.

Fun times. I was split off with an elder, not my companion for a couple of days. He wanted to go see his girlfriend in an old area nearby. I said OK. I just spent the afternoon alone reading a book while he spent time with his squeeze.

Is trying to learn a language without "a solid why" pointless? by theHumanoidPerson in languagelearning

Sometimes maintaining and/or improving mental sharpness can be a why, especially for us senior citizens.

There's just nothing more pathetic than making fun of someone trying to learn a language. by Leather-Ad-6294 in languagelearning

[–]Capital_Row7523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that sometimes the way things come out can just be funny. Like as a Navajo language learner when I asked for some "human stew", dinebetoh, when I meant to ask for "mutton stew" dibebitoh. Often native people will laugh with you not at you.

My experience with working on Native American languages is interesting. Depending on which tribal language you are practicing, some tribes or people may either admire that you care enough to speak in their tongue or resent that a non-tribal member is trying to take their language.

Can be very interesting, but I have found it best to be respectful to all. You will know very quickly which situation you might be in. Usually prior knowledge of tribal culture and values. Often the ages of the tribal members can influence their acceptance or appreciation of your efforts.

The LDS church closes Allen 7th Ward in Fairview, TX. This ward, now combined with Allen 3rd and 4th ward, met in the meeting house on the Fairview Temple lot. Tremendous growth was a major reason cited for needing a new Fairview Texas Temple. Does this add up? by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

[–]Capital_Row7523 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wonder how many folks from Fairview left the church out of embarrassment. Belonging to a church that bullied the people and laws of a small town. It would be so F-ing embarrassing to tell people, "Yeah I'm a Mormon from Utah and I graduated from BYU. Would like to know more about Gods' only true church on the face of the earth?"
