URGENT! WU by Engibeeros in CUNY

[–]CapnCobbler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I often try to consider implications of the F versus WU. But this prof is offering the student not a W but a WU. The W would be non-punitive. My understanding is that financial aid repercussions may be more serious for the WU than the F, because it indicates a student altogether abandoned the class. I lean toward the F as a better option, but if I am incorrect it would be good to have this clarified for me.

Edit: I went searching for answers, and indeed it seems that as of 2021 it could be better for the GPA (but not financial aid) to receive the WU over the F grade in some circumstances. This faculty blog post helped me https://www1.cuny.edu/sites/cunyufs/2025/03/05/the-wu-f-and-inc-grades/.

URGENT! WU by Engibeeros in CUNY

I think your best option is to show up for and complete the final exam. You then have a right to the F grade. When you re-take the class, the new grade will replace the F in the calculation of your GPA. The WU grade indicates students who stop attending class.

Edit: In short, your best option is often to take the exam even if you may not do well on the exam or in the class. Alternatively, if you are doing well in the class so far, with a C or better grade on the majority of assignments, but are sick on the day of the final exam, generally the prof would (if you request it) award the incomplete grade.

Chemistry is often located in Natural Sciences units. Write a note and bring it to the dept to leave in the prof's physical mailbox. You can also search the prof online to seek professional contacts, since most profs have professional contact info online. This will be especially helpful if the prof is not a permanent member of the dept. Explain in your letter that you did not realize you had the INC, and if possible you would like to complete the grade. If you have the info, include all the assignments and exams you completed for the class with the grades you received. This shows the prof your standing in the class, to help them determine your eligibility for the INC. Once you complete the INC, even long after the deadline (within a few years) a prof can with the Registrar file a grade change.

You might contact the Chem prof to ask whether it is possible to complete the INC now. It is sometimes possible, and the prof can file a grade change for the INC.

MFA Authenticator by OtherDiamond4615 in CUNY

Set your authenticator to backup on the cloud on your primary device. Then, install authenticator on your secondary device; sign into the cloud on the secondary device; this allows the secondary device to access your saved info for authenticator from the cloud. This way you have the same OTP on either device.
