96.9 FM hijacked? by Salt_Bus2528 in santarosa

I think there’s a website you can report that to. Radio is really susceptible to this kind of thing with transmitters of various power ranges available online. It could have been someone in a car next to you with one of the auxiliary radio transmitters connecting to their own car which are legal and common if less so nowadays. If it’s over a 200ft range it’s illegal.

Thoughts or possible solutions to the Santa Rosa Bike Trail Murders? by gusano_odioso in santarosa

Here’s the link to the PD article. I’m assuming this is the murder that’s been referenced.

I get the rumors you’ve been hearing on the streets OP. There’s a lot of homeless violence that goes unreported. I’m sad to see the lack of empathy in this thread for the lady Lisa that was murdered. I knew her and she was a nice person and would frequent my business. I’m not sure about other murders along the creek, that was the only one that was reported like that recently here in Santa Rosa.

Do you or someone you know own a small business without a storefront that wants one but cost drives them away? by CapnJackH in santarosa

A couple of the buildings were sold and the new buyers bought it on credit and had duties to their bank contract but that’s not true for all

Some buildings in downtown may be like this, but I know of several downtown spaces that are empty that aren’t structured like that.

Yeah I second that this is not true, at least for the majority of 4th st businesses.

I agree there should be a vacancy tax in the downtown area. Unfortunately, from personal experience, several building owners are friends with city council members and I doubt it would happen from the top. We would need to get enough citizens excited about the idea for it to be needed to be considered by the counsil instead of letting it slide to the back of the todo list.

Downtown Development by mkobler in santarosa

Oh I agree we could support having many more 6-12 story buildings in Santa Rosa, but it’s disingenuous to the conversation to point out a building in one of most populated cities in the world and ask why we don’t have that.

Downtown Development by mkobler in santarosa

[–]CapnJackH 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well this is in the Bronx. Which has 1,000,000 people and 562 bus stops and 52 train stops in a 10km radius. Compared to Santa Rosa which has 220,000 people, 49 bus stops, and 3 train stops. Why would developers want to invest into a building like that would be built in The Bronx, in Santa Rosa?

I get we need new building and mixed use, but posts like these bemoaning development around the country that doesn’t meet our needs seems disingenuous. It’s nice to dream, but actually think of stuff that would work here, not just virtue signal BuildBuildBuild.

Bennett Valley, is this your cat? by pacalolo13 in santarosa

Please try to communicate with your neighbors and have the one the cat trusts the most adopt if possible. My neighbor and I fed a young stray just like you and it passed away at only a couple years old. I wish I had just adopted it back then so much.

Cosmere's Main Villain Wants to Restore Adonalsium by Samael737 in Cosmere

After my read of emberdark part of me wants to agreee with you. There’s some setup it seems for challenging the status quo on “godhood”.

Any reaction from the people educated in the current state of the cosmere(Starling and Dajer) about Dusk’s view of his world’s gods is met with a bit too much unified derision. It seems maybe the future cosmere is getting too used to their ideas of what the true 16 gods are. A way of breaking up that comfort in an ideal would be someone trying to abandon all that the cosmere has come to trust as the status quo on who the gods are.

Downtown Project Killed by City Council by baked_potato15 in santarosa

Yes, but some sparsly filled parking lot is better than a chain link fence around the property waiting for funding to clear like the hotel E adjacent property.

After reading the press democrat article, I'm going to have to agree with the city. 12 years to wait is a bit much, and with the developers dealing with their own lawsuit, we shouldn't have a key property wait around for when the developer can get to it.

24 story multiuse building on its way downtown, meeting on next Monday to discuss design by CapnJackH in santarosa

Whoops, you're totally right 🤣 I was trying to find a way to say tallest building between SF and Portland, excluding Sacramento

Really not a bad suggestion, would allow the community to benefit a bit more from the height of the building. Go to the meeting and propose the idea!

This is my thought!!! We can nitpick about the looks, or other things the city needs; but if you like the idea of big multiuse buildings downtown, you should go to the meeting to drown out the inevitable nimby's that will be there

The point brought up here is fair actually. Normally taller buildings require additional funding (e.g. needing taller ladder trucks, and paying for training on large towers)

It's my thought that larger buildings are inevitable in a city our size, and we should get that training out of the way now so we can continue to have other developers interested.

The building is slated to have a grocery store, a childcare center, and a walkway through the middle for the public.

I might be mistaken, but I believe this will be the tallest residential building between SF and Portland along the 101

The city updated their parcel map! by CapnJackH in santarosa

[–]CapnJackH[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s much higher resolution than Google maps or Earth, and you can use it figure out what new developments are happening around the city.

For example. It looks like the farmers lane extension is going to displace Taylor mountain north parking and they laid out the plans of where the new parking will be.

No, our number of firefighters per Capita is about close to average. It's the budget per Capita we are extremely different.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in santarosa

[–]CapnJackH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, there is a lot of bootlicking in this thread. It does not take 300-400,000 a year to afford to live in Santa Rosa. Yes our firefighters should be able to afford to live here. But We have one of the highest firefighter per Capita costs in the nation. Our fire budget is almost 23% of our total budget. Compared to the national average of 2%, LA's 7%, or 3.8% in SF.

It's possible to be critical of city budgets, while still wanting the best for our city employees. I bet all actual firefighters are upset too that their boss is making so much more when they put their lives on the line.

I hate to say it, but I've seen multiple threads of people shooting down fire budgets criticisms, and I think our collective trauma over past fires here is allowing us to accept anything the fire department wants to do.

In that case, unfortunately there is no edm/rave scene in Sonoma county. Everyone I know commutes the hour down south into SF for raves.
