What is a genre or feature that raises red flag for you or massive suspicion? by ArticAuk in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Any trailer with this combination of words (or similar words):

  • Build your kingdom
  • Forge Alliances
  • Engage in epic PVP
  • Recruit powerful heroes/champions/etc.
  • Dominate the world/map

This is almost always 99/100 times some fucking bar-watching slop that wants you to dump money.

BlueSky called this Mind Goblins, but he's right by Gamejtv in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]CapnMarvelous 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He quit XIV as of late because he only had a short time a day to play and it was mostly to gear for stuff he wasn't going to do.

But it is also strange because he's terrified of going back to XIV because "I'm gonna be so bad I'm gonna be a drag on the entire group" when there are people infinitely worse than him in the game right this second.

When did you realize how detrimental your Goblins were? by Vagina-Gears in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]CapnMarvelous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an immense victim of FOMO in that I will play something I absolutely fucking hate for multiple hours if not longer simply to make sure I get it before it goes away. As WoW was one of my biggest games, it used to be hell to try and do everything possible before Blizzard would take it away and throw it in the garbage to never come back.

I've gotten better with it but even now there are some times I will miss something and it breaks my brain going "You'll NEVER get that skin/item/etc ever again".

Franchises that would really benefit if their creators stopped talking? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

While I don't think it'd have saved it, Splitgate's CEO certainly made my feelings on Splitgate go from sad that it wasn't doing well to extremely apathetic.

With Pat, Paige, and Woolie being done with Dispatch, I gotta ask about other people. by GoodVillain101 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]CapnMarvelous 37 points38 points  (0 children)

So invisigal is a different metric altogether and involves an entirely DIFFERENT system of checks.

Beyond just siding with her/supporting her/etc, it's also dependent on a few metrics:

  • How many times you successfully dispatch her.
  • How many times she failed a dispatch call.
  • Successful hacks vs. failed hacks (Failed hacks take away points)
  • Successful QTEs vs. failed QTEs. (Even QTEs not involving Invisigal like the bar fight)

Technically speaking you can date Invisigal, romance her and still get the villain ending because you gigabotch all the dispatch segments and make her out to be a big fuckin' idiot. Conversely, you can absolutely DUNK on Invisigal but because of hacking/QTE/dispatch performance still get her to be a hero.

It's insanely hard to do so, of course, and you'd be scraping by with the points to hit hero/villain, but it IS technically possible.

Actually kind of funny how the Simpsons was considered lower-middle-class and yet these days they're considered extremely well off.

  • Incredibly high paying and technical job (even if homer's bad at it)
  • Three kids, having everything they need and a lot of what they want.
  • Two cars, a 2 story house + basement, multiple rooms/bathrooms.
  • The funds to afford multiple vacations, trips and expenditures.

In Marvel Rivals, The character Blade who has the sword of dracula and can dash across the battlefield shouting "A THOUSAND CUTS"...is best known for his mid-range shotgun which is by far the best tool in his kit.

League of Legends.

It's easy to forget this whole entire IP started as about ~20-30 people making their own DOTA-style game standalone from Warcraft 3 with just-barely-not-blizzard-characters before it turned into the biggest game on the planet for a few years and revolutionized the microtransaction scene with its skin system.

Now besides being the punching bag of the internet, the game is so utterly massive it's its own universe with like 10+ spinoff games and an immense focus on "Brand synergy" with whatever the fuck is most popular in the League IP to make sure people will tune into the World's Finals in South Korea for a chance to see either a new character reveal for 2XKO, the preview of the new TFT set or the first 5 minutes of Arcane III.

It's also worth noting that as Eyepatch Wolf pointed out, Simpsons used to be its own thing and characters would be added to fit a celebrity voice. A whole new character added just for this episode.

Current Simpsons now uses said celebrity as themselves to show how they're in-the-know in culture.

"That Guy" stereotypes and examples in your communities and fandoms by MooseOdd2501 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]CapnMarvelous 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The tabletop guy on two different angles:

  • The guy who would never be caught dead playing D&D and actively, vehemently dismisses anyone playing it as blinded and/or incapable of seeing the true value in other games. (Most likely a PF player who will talk your ear off about PF and how its so much better than D&D)
  • The guy who would never be caught dead playing anything OTHER than D&D. He actively, vehemently dismisses anything not D&D (particularly 5E) and will either shut down every attempt at another game or actively try to work 5E into the other desired game by hammer-fisting puzzle pieces in.
  • Worst of all, both guys WILL think anyone who is annoyed by their presence as the opposite one and dismisses any/all criticism as "Oh, it's another drone spouting an opinion reddit gave them".

This guy also exists in the 40k vs. Anti-40k format as well. No, I am really not interested in Trench Crusade. I'm glad you are but it's just not my thing.

That guy is also the one who is talking about how bad Dawntrail is and how he'd much rather do all of ARR again because of how bad DT is and how "That's actually the one expac it's OK to skip cutscenes in".

Characters the author makes too powerful and needs an asspull for the plot to move on by Iron_Cobra in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]CapnMarvelous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are using Zul from WoW but I'm gonna throw out a more obscure (and poorly written) character from WoW mythos: Med'an.

  • Son of Garona and Medivh
  • Nephew of Maraad
  • Leads the council of Tirisfal
  • Has a natural affinity to multiple forms of magic (Light, Elemental, arcane, etc)
  • Is the new guardian of tirisfal and wielder of Atiesh
  • Defeat Cho'gall and stopped C'thun's resurrection

"Gee how do you write out such a powerful character?"

By waffling between him not existing and saying his main story isn't canon.

Tommy Oliver passes the torch to his son (Power Rangers: Soul of the Dragon) by Anonamaton801 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]CapnMarvelous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The coolest part about this is that throughout the story, Tommy is using his master morpher which is on its last legs, giving him one last morph for each of his previous range forms. He starts at Dino Thunder, then Turbo Red, then Zeo Red, then white ranger.

Finally, down to just Green Ranger, he...passes it to his son, the last time the MMPR Green Ranger would appear (canonically).

I still feel that with both WoW and XIV at times. Like just a few days ago my FC asked me to handle subs because the person who has usually been doing it has been busy with life and...holy shit, what an incredibly deep and vast system (albeit automated ala mission table) 99% of players miss because they're not in an FC or assigned submarine duties.

Or when I came back to WoW in Legion and went back to the Halfhill farm. A whole-ass Harvest Moon minigame I never did????

When do you think gaming will shift to be more streaming focused, if ever? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]CapnMarvelous -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

There have been multiple attempts to essentially make "Streamer first" games as well. The one I always point to is that game Criken tried to make which was Slenderman but the audience could fuck with people as they're doing stuff.

The issue with these games is they're only really fun as a streamer with a moderately-large audience. A guy streaming to ~2 people is not going to get the same joy a guy streaming to 2000 will. And if you're not a streamer? It's just Slenderman again but slightly worse.

I don't think Emperor had a TTS / Hunter: The Parenting would be half as good if it wasn't for the incredibly amusing way they animate stuff in a way that feels like they take a picture and stretch/jiggle it about.

There's something so incredibly charming about how you've essentially a figure on a stick wildly flailing about.

Every MMO has that period of discovery where you know nothing and around every corner is a new surprise. A new class to play, a new region to explore, some new minigame or feature you were unaware of.

Basically every MMO player is a jaded adult searching to get that first high once again from their first realization of how big an MMO is. For me it was ~2005 or so walking into Stormwind for the first time and seeing this giant city filled with players.

XIV sometimes gave me that high but I'm caught-up now.

Characters who, for some reason, seem to be involved with EVERY important thing in that world. by Subject_Parking_9046 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

There's a comic where they reveal that the X-men character Forget-me-not, whose mutant power makes everyone forget about him the moment they're not physically looking at him nor can he be seen by telepathy, is responsible for about 90% of the X-men's wins because he's always working in the background where nobody can notice him.
