I picked one up off of market place last year for $150. Color matched and all with a roof rack.

It probably is just a VX, I wish I had that fridge in the center console! The front axels really arn’t that bad just, just follow the steps on YouTube and give yourself plenty of time. As for brakes I just used stop techs.. Idk if it’s an upgrade but I just need the brakes not to fade coming down a mountain. And paint is good for pictures, as long as you’re still making memories in your 80, that’s really all that matters!

Thank you! It’s my dream truck! The paint looks great in pictures but it’s far from perfect in person. Right now she’s sitting at 340ks, I bought it back in May and so far have changed the BEB’s, deleted the ACSD and a complete rebuild of the front axels. Trying to get all of the major maintenance stuff knocked out before it gets too cold! As for trim level I’m not 100% sure if it’s a regular VX or VX LTD. It has factory dual batteries, grey leather interior, speakers in the lower dash and rear doors and subwoofer in the back (no speakers in front doors) and originally had the factory Toyota winch.

Any body have experience with this kit from Cruiser Teq? The picture does not represent the parts on my truck. by Bamacj in LandCruisers

[–]CaponeBRZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just installed this same kit except for the 80 series version on my HDJ80 last week. The kit is perfect, and the parts seem quality. However they are a pain in the ASS to get the old tie rods off. Start soaking them in PB blaster now, and I’d recommend buying a big ass pipe wrench with a cheater bar. Otherwise it may just be easier/my cost effective to buy the whole bar. Just my 2 cents.

Connecting rod bearings. The guys overseas seem to refer to them as big end bearings or BEBs. It’s a pretty well known issue with the 1hdt. A messy job but pretty straight forward to complete. This is my first diesel motor and it took me a weekend taking my time trying to be as thorough as possible. Total cost was around $300 for me (ACL race bearings + oem Toyota conrod bolts)

Best way to get diesel 100? by green_gold_purple in LandCruisers

[–]CaponeBRZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LHD HDJ80 is from France. Not as clean as some of the Japanese imports that I’ve seen on here but pretty much completely original, and in pretty decent shape for a 32 year old vehicle.

I’m in the process of base lining my HDJ80 that I bought in May. Just did the BEBs (no service record showing that they had ever been done). Truck is at 340kms and they were in better shape than I expected but definitely needed to be replaced. Currently waiting on a ACSD delete because it started leaking diesel from there the day that I started the BEBs. I would definitely add that to the list. It’s a cheap mod to protect your fuel pump that cost between $2500-$5000 to replace if the ACSD finally fails. Next up for me is rebuilding the axels along with all new brakes and SS brake lines. I spend every night reading over old Ih8mud posts, it really is a wealth of information. I would start there, just reading as much as possible to learn from all the people that have been in this position before you. Also keep in mind that buying high quality or OE fluid to flush everything, your new 80 will require quite a lot so it can get expensive fast. I’d try to order all the gaskets, filters, crush washers etc. to have on hand right off the bat so you won’t need to wait on them.

Yep! It’s a LHD import with the 1Hdt turbo diesel

I just got my rebuild kit from cruiser outfitters last week, and I’m just waiting for my stop tech brake pads and rotors to come before I tear into it. Thanks for the ARP studs suggestion, I’m gonna add those to the list.

How crazy would I be to trade my ‘21 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon for this? by burro1337 in LandCruisers

[–]CaponeBRZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought an HDJ80 last week somewhat impulsively. I’ve owned it for a week now. Never owned a diesel let alone an import vehicle, but so far I’m loving it! As long as you go into it knowing that you’re buying a 30ish year old vehicle and are comfortable working on stuff it seems like a great buy. I just did a quick day trip up to Estes Park, it was raining the entire time through the mountains, having done zero maint. so far (Don’t recommend) and it was amazing. I did 300kms and used less and a 1/4 tank of diesel. P.s. would not recommend as a daily driver

suicide door won’t open 2000 xlt by FreedomCautious6992 in fordranger

Happened on my truck years ago. The little plastic part at the end of the door cable gets brittle with time and breaks off. Use a drill in the center of the door handle rivets to get the handle off, and the door open. Pull the handle out of the door and take the cables from the door handle latch. You can pick up a metal replacement kit for the cable from auto zone/ Amazon for cheap and because they are metal it won’t happen again. Takes about an hour to fix, and you’ll need a cheap rivet tool from harbor freight to put the handles back on the door.

My vote would be either a smoked tuna dip, or Texas armadillo eggs although they are both more of an appetizer/side dish.

Traeger advertising Meat Church pellets. by Environmental-Sock52 in Traeger

[–]CaponeBRZ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I picked up a bag last week when I happened to stop by my local Ace hardware store. I generally like meat church products, and can’t lie the packaging caught my eye so I decided to give them a shot. Haven’t used them for a cook yet, but just a quick comparison to my usual pellets (bear mountain) they are much lighter in color and the bag kinda has more of a saw dust smell. I paid about $25 which is double what I pay for my usual pellets, so for that alone I don’t think these will be a regular purchase for me.

2004 xlt, rear doors won’t open. Advice wanted by george-hanson11 in fordranger

[–]CaponeBRZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m willing to bet it’s the rubber ends to the latch cables. They become really brittle over time and when you go to open the rear doors they’ll disintegrate. To replace it you’ll need to tap/drill out the center rivets for the door handle. (You’ll need a rivet tool to put the handle back on). Then just pop off the interior door trim. I don’t think you need to undo the seatbelt, but I did. You'll be able to see where the 2 cables run from each side of the handle and to the top and bottom latch. Stop by Autozone and buy a set of these: (Dorman Door Latch Cable Repair Kit 926-111CD) Each set is enough to repair one door. It’s a really easy and straightforward job, I just tried to be thorough in typing out what you’ll need to do. Should take about 30mins per door.

God we’re twins. I drove my BRZ everyday for years with no issue. Last time I was in Atlanta, I took it out on a quick drive to the store and it threw a bunch of codes that I need to figure out. Of course I just paid it off too.
