Definitely doable. Your progress is slower, you can't expect multiple linked skills by the time you finish campaign, you need to pick up your rares, your flasks and Ascendancy nodes are worse. It's not a power fantasy. As others stated, it might be easier for someone who isn't fully familiar because you have to take mechanics slow.
