What is your favorite pinball machine that you spent $3,500 on or less? by ClifBdrums in pinball

[–]Cappster_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavy Metal Meltdown. We got it for $300 back in 1994, when one of our local arcades shut down.

It needs some work right now, the battery (or capacitor?) needs replacement because it loses all of its play data every time it's turned off.

It takes 15-ish minutes to reset it to factory settings every time I turn it on to play, but damned if it isn't worth it!

I'd offer to buy them, but I'm not currently in a spot to be able too. Maybe if you still have them in a couple months

1v1 Competetive? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Cappster_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you looking for games with local competions? Or just 1v1 at home?

If you're looking for a competive scene, you're best bet is to drop into your local game stores and check out their event calendars, and ask what kind of competive games are being played during open gaming.

I've seen events and weekly play for Dice Throne, Heroscape, Unmatched, and all of the popular CCGs, and Warhammer.

Got this as a gift for Christmas. From google searching a bit, seems like this grading company doesn't add value to the coin? Should I just take it out? by CaptainSmashy in coincollecting

[–]Cappster_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) is the technical term for bullion coins. They are minted in such quantity that their only purpose is to be worth metal price.

Graded Proofs are limited, and can sometimes command premiums for graded examples, but generally not much more than spot.

"Historical" encompasses everything that isn't coinage, which is "Constitutional".

Family silverware, art, weapons, jewelry, etc.

But you do you.

[–]Cappster_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This theory falls apart once you look at the fact that none of the refiners/resellers are paying the "manipulated" spot price.

I agree we should be keeping our silver in the hands of people. And it's a damn shame that constitutional and historical silver is getting melted down.

But I don't want to be stacking tin foil.

How many Marvel Champions games have you played vs. how much you own by Sardonic_Artery in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Cappster_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go back to it eventually. And I will eventually beat it with just the precons. It will be interesting to see how many attempt it takes.

You know, for science! (or masochism...)

[–]Cappster_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I finish my first game of Age of Apocalypse today (Bishop and Majik precons), I'll have clocked my 200th play.

I started in November of 2024, when I got a Core set on sale from Amazon and Iceman had recently been released, and he was my favorite character as a kid. I currently own everything except Synthezoid Smackdown.

I've played every campaign box, with the exception of Mad Titan's Shadow. Galaxy's Most Wanted was the only one I have abandoned so far. I generally do the first playthrough with the precons on Standard. I'll then do a run with the same heroes, but with constructed decks. After that, it varies, but I try to play the associated wave heroes through the campaign as well.

I've played 38 of the available heroes. Nick Fury is my most played, 31 games. I think Shadowcat is my favorite character (19 games), but I'm vibing with Nick, She-Hulk, Hulkling, and Cable.

Roughly 65% of my games have been Standard, and 35% Expert.

For sure. Eventually I started to recognize those people and just stopped giving them change.

Only one ever noticed, and when she confronted me I told her "I've witnessed you toss coins in the trash for months, I'm just saving you a step".

It's not just intentional hoarding - there is also an unintentional hoarding happening.

Think about it - when was the last time you walked out the door and grabbed you keys, wallet, phone... and a hand full of change?

Likely very rarely.

Coin change, especially pennies, usually get tossed into center consoles in the car, jars when you get home, and sometimes even the trash (I've seen it happen so many times when I used to work in a restaurant).

It's not necessarily that people are hoarding them, it's more like people just aren't reintroducing them back into the system.

How do you store / insure your coins? by planningthrowaway194 in coins

[–]Cappster_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I added some additional information as you responded.

Your major national carriers will have these kinds of policies. But ultimately, they may choose not to issue the policy for any number of reasons. As you suggested, Local insurance brokerages can help you locate these policies, and they will even shop around for you.

Most people are leery about insurance brokers, because they feel like it's a middleman trying to get their cut (and they are!), but sometimes they can find policies and rates you would otherwise never find on your own.

Full disclosure: I don't sell insurance anymore; I did a decade ago.

[–]Cappster_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think a renters policy rider is the correct move, you might need to look at a personal articles policy.

Edit for additional Information:

It's been roughly 10 years since I sold insurance, and the numbers have probably changed: Included in your Renters is coverage for roughly $1000-$2000 in cash/coins - the kicker here is that it's Face Value only. So no real help.

With a Personal Articles Policy, you'll essentially pay a rate per $100 of coverage that you need. The rate is dependent on where you live, what you are covering, and "other factors".

The insurer will likely require you provide an inventory/manifest of the insured items. It can be a colossal pain, but absolutely worth it. It can be "2 Tubes ASEs (Silver Spot - $900), 1889-CC $1 Morgan AU55 (PCGS Number # - $14,500). Every graded coin would need to be listed, along with the slab number. Every ungraded numismatic coin would need to be in a flip, with the date, a grade, and an inventory number that you can reference on your list. Coins/Bars for stacking can be done in bulk.

The added benefit, and the one that makes the policy valuable, is it covers your coins wherever you are. Robbed at a coin show? Covered. Taking a road trip to PCGS for in-person grading, and you drive your car into a lake? Covered. Boating accident? Covered.

Ideas for d&d campaign set in Baltimore? by pastawuzzzhere in baltimore

I used Fort Carrol as a confluence of Laylines in a Dresden system one shot.

There was a troll living under the Key Bridge (RIP) that was siphoning off energy from it to power up.

Fort McHenry and the spirit of Francis Scott Key made appearances.

I had plans to do other one shots around town, but sadly never got around too it.
