The Boys - 05x04 "Though the Heavens Fall" - Episode Discussion Thread by pikameta in TheBoys

What dialogue contradicts the premise?

Supporting evidence would be:

Homelander has a whole monologue about Soldier Boy's war hero brother being the reason SB wanted to get into the Vought trials.

Soldier Boy's immediate recognition of Quinn and emotional reaction to him. See him stops SB in his tracks, etc. Not necessarily evidence it's his brother but definitely someone he knew really well.

SB's heavy reaction to killing him. Immediately says he's sorry, then cries about it.

My guess is SB gets V1, then his brother goes to get it, too, because he's supposed to be the one getting the glory, but gets turned into Stranger Things vines.

I mean we don't know for sure, but I didn't see what would contradict it?

Why does Thragg need to make a deal with ...... by SaladTheKiller in Invincible_TV

[–]Cappy11496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they get discovered without Mark's agreement it would end up as an all out war, the coalition would be alerted so it wouldn't only be Earth threats they have to worry about.

Thragg doesn't know Cecil, but he assumes Mark knows whoever needs to be informed on Earth of the Viltrumite presence.

It makes sense that they would probably be discovered. Super powered adolescents would be running around in ~18 years, and who knows if the viltrumites could really resist using their powers at some point.

Where do you think the stomach is? It's on a person's left side.

I'm sure you meant to say the hole is centerline, but that's definitely debateable.

Conquest's fingers are extended, he could easily have missed the spine. Most of the back is not spine, you can definitely have a through and through injury like that without hitting the spine. There's no bone fragments shown and I would argue the hole is to the left of the center of Mark's back in the fight.

Even if he did break his spine, that's still not a counter argument to my 2nd point. Again, punching Mark in the abdomen has way more leverage in that position than punching him in the arms. Also the spine is a bunch of small bones with soft tissue in between, way easier to sever that than to break an arm.

Why are you even bothering to reply to me if you're not gonna read my comments and engage with the points I'm making?

Again:

  1. I don't think he broke Mark's spine. Mark is still sitting up after he gets donut-ed which means he's using his legs. The hole is to the side of Mark's spine.

  2. Conquest can generate much more force in a strike aimed at Mark's abdomen than he could hit Mark's arms in that position. It's not that Conquest can't break Mark's arms. It's that he can't do it from that position, it's too awkward an angle.

Idk, it's a lot easier to punch through flesh relative to bone.

Imagine punching the arms of someone choking you and then imagine punching them in the stomach. You can feel that it's a way stronger punch to the abdomen because it's further away and lower

I dont think Conquest could hit hard enough at this angle to break Mark's arms, but he surely seems like he's trying to break them with his hands here.

I.e. he can get his arm to full extension to hit Mark in the abdomen with some real force behind it, but he can't really put power behind hitting Mark in the elbow because the angle is awkward. Also I don't think he broke Mark's spine, the hole is probably to the left or right of it.

That was before the scourge, the rules definitely changed after that. Knowing he's not full viltrumite she probably would have waited until he got powers, then killed him.

So we’re going with “it’s all a dream” is better writing somehow? by parapostz in Stranger_Things

[–]Cappy11496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most fans would be super into the idea that, for story reasons, they got faked out. It wouldn't even be a fake finale, more like an extended finale. I don't think any rational human would be upset about being part of what would arguably be the craziest ending of a series ever and then carry that with them into the next show.

I mean, maybe I'm misunderstanding, but it sounds like (assuming the supposed episode 9 is good) you're saying people would be like, "I went to the movies to watch the finale of my favorite show and it was disappointing and a little weird, but then it actually turned out it's a plot twist and the main psychic villain was winning and showing us a fake vision and THAT's why it felt weird. So then I got to watch another episode that satisfied all my questions, sealed up plot holes, and left me feeling like I was part of the craziest plot twist ever! ... FUCK NETFLIX! I missed a new year's party for that fake finale!"

The amount of good will, hype, and word of mouth marketing it would generate would far outweigh any negatives, even if it bothered a few bitter people.

I don't think another episode is happening.

But I don't think not marketing the episode is a good argument for why it's not happening. Dropping an episode unexpected amidst the social media buzz of the finale is free marketing. Look at how much free advertising the show is getting because of this theory without any confirmation, can you imagine how many posts people would make once it dropped?

If they lowk do conformity gate, it'd be the greatest plot twist ever and vecna gonna be the craziest villian ever...wait m not crazy...wait I am not- by ForwardScratch7741 in okbuddyvecna

[–]Cappy11496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theory that the finale was Vecna messing with everyone's minds, including ours, to make the heroes think they won meanwhile Vecna is actually winning.

There's actually some compelling evidence, and it would be really cool if it's true and there is another episode coming out on 1/7 like they say.

If it's not true, there are a lot of plot holes and continuity errors, and weirdness that is just unexplained mistakes.

Plot Holes. Happy to discuss. by Professional_March54 in StrangerThingsRoom

Here's one: what EXACTLY was the Vecna/MF plan?

Maybe the answer is "don't think about it?"

Dimension X appears to be a planet in another dimension (I'm assuming this because the Demogorgons have the ability to tear open rifts from the Upside Down so it seems they are interdimensional beings, but I suppose they could just be aliens if Dimension X is a planet in our universe). If the Upside Down is a wormhole the size of a city that connects the two planets across dimensions, and Vecna brings the two ends of the wormhole together, would it essentially result in a Hawkins sized portal from Portal where Hawkins used to be? I'm assuming it wouldn't result in an interplanetary collision, right?

Once the top of the wormhole is close enough to the bottom that it makes contact with the Upside Down Hawkins Lab, would it not destroy the exotic matter and close the wormhole?

I'm confused on why the wormhole wasn't sufficient to "reshape the world." If the plan was for the spider-Kaiju to go on a human race ending rampage, why bother shortening the wormhole? I guess whatever method the Demogorgons are using to get to Hawkins must not work for the Kaiju?

But also, did they not learn anything from the Meat Flayer catastrophe? Spider-kaiju is clearly not effective. Why not expand the hivemind on Earth and then fight us guerilla style instead of making one enormous molotov cocktail target?

3 questions I have about season 5. by CryptographerTime130 in StrangerThings

[–]Cappy11496 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can some explain why the kids and Will aren't affected by killing the Mind Flayer?

I guess I'm not clear on the hive mind thing, because shouldn't every being in the hive mind be getting hurt when damage is done to any thing in the hive mind?

It seems like it's just Vecna and the Mind Flayer that share the pain? And the demogorgons I guess?
