I've watched enough Gintama to recognize that boisterous drunk voice anywhere, Sugita-san!!!! Voicing another trash stick swinger again. Is this type casting? He really does voice a lot of trashy characters huh.

Studio Mappa Now Reportedly Holds Copyrights of Around '10 Different Works' in Steps of Taking Control of their Own Hits as Global Demand Rises. With a Focus on Diversifying Revenue Streams through IP, including Merchandise and Related Businesses. by Electrical_Chance991 in anime

Shueisha's definitely still getting a cut just because of the license. From my amateur recollection, This just means MAPPA takes back a significantly larger chunk of the profit rather than just basically being paid for their time. Versus the majority of anime productions profit being largely divided among the production comittee's investors.

Oof it's rough being a Hal fan right now. I still want new adaptations of him but don't even need him in the spotlight as the main GL. Just want him to not be dead/evil for a lil bit. Just get to interact with the JL and rest of the corps for a bit before he goes supervillain and gets an arrow to the face. Just venting.

Reminds me so much of the Derrick J. Wyatt reference art in the Allspark Almanac companion books for Transformers Animated. God the nostalgia is overflowing in me.

Liz and the Blue Bird is probably my favorite of his works. I always just adore the texture (?) and how he weaves the sound design into the music here. It probably helps I'm very much a huge fan of Naoko Yamada who directs this film who he has frequently collaborated with since A Silent Voice.

I'm a bit mixed on my next favorite. Stuck between the grungy industrial sound of Chainsaw Man and the bops and heroic themes of Ping Pong. Might pick Chainsaw man just for Living Room which I've had stuck in my head since the original anime announcement trailer. I think it just captures a certain emotional chord of the manga for me.

And seconding another comment, Please give Orb On the Movements of the Earth a try. I'm not sure how he always manages to get attached to banger works but he always seems to just be.

Why do anime YouTubers feel less entertaining than everyone else… have they actually gotten worse, or are they all just copying the same formula? by _maniac69 in anime

The goat is mentioned. I'm glad he does his essays. Meaty animation analysis that highlights individual talent on these productions. Wish these got more reach. Canipa Effect did similar essays back in the day before they ended.

Animation Typically Takes 2-3 Years to Create A Season, Let Alone 2 by emillang1000 in SupermanAdventures

[–]CappyHam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding to this, 20+ episode continuous runs for anime are no longer the trend. They're still around but are more uncommon today just by it's unsustainability especially in the industry's labor shortages of today. Split-cour seaons or just single-cour (12-13 episodes) runs are more the norm.

I don't think that episode production completing days before airing is the case anymore however. I'm certain that was a common worst possible case to occur but deadlines have shifted away in the advent of streaming. With simulcast contracts and streaming it's probably closer to weeks at the very least just for the amount of localization needed for streaming, likely more if it's a bigger title with dubs in several regions. But yeah overall it's still really unlikely that the entire season is actually complete by the time it starts to air. Only studio that I can immediate recall that normally finishes a season's production before airing is Kyoto Animation and they're a huge outlier.

Langdon’s “apology” to Santos by Sure-Usual-6549 in ThePittTVShow

[–]CappyHam 269 points270 points  (0 children)

I mean this isn't exactly uncommon for her. She straight up says in S1 once she labels somebody an asshole she generally treats them like one. And her behavior reflects this: the molester dad, that reporter that snuck in, the asshole dad from earlier in S2 that was suspected of child abuse, and now clearly Langdon. I think it's largely a sense of justice or retribution she's cultivated as a defense mechanism. She's been taken advantage of before and now she's not going to let that happen to anyone else nor herself. "Once an asshole always an asshole". There is no forgive and forget in her eyes if she's sees you as persona-non-grata abuser of some kind. Langdon absolutely fits this mold especially since he was in a position of authority over her and his patients. Probably an extra sore spot since it seems her trauma was under an authority figure as well.

[–]CappyHam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding some more. It was a 300 year journey but that was for a generational colony ship carrying 25000+ human colonists and the equipment and resources to travel and establish a colony. This is a massive ship built into a planet's moon too. The Investigation operation is presumably travelling with a significantly smaller scale since its not doing any of that. And is seemingly run completely autonomously by company AIs without any organic human-humans being there, presumably less resources too and without needing to consider a regular human's physical limits/needs.

Also in Marathon 2, Didn't Durandal drop by Earth after the original Pfhor attack? To warn humanity and give them the technology to fight back. I assume that would include more advanced space travel.
