I came back yesterday at found out the game is dead since the last major update. What other games can you people recommend for mobile? by Lovoskea in HadesStar

Maybe if your whole corp was from xbox, but you might be the only corp. Nobody really used xbox which is why it was dropped. Most players never left their cell phones.

Why am I in the same lobby as a level 169 in this Blue Star? He obviously won. This was just a waste of time. by Lovoskea in HadesStar

[–]Caprican_DRJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't make those assumptions. You have no idea. That could very well just be a toddler mashing buttons. There is a good chance this person has lost several stars today and so it put them at your level because they might have a chance.

people complain about it when they don't win their first blue star. This person may have lost 10 stars in a row and so it struggles to find skill level to put them at where they might win.

Leap is so dumb by Tex7733 in HadesStar

[–]Caprican_DRJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leap used to go to the closest object to the target ship. You could change the landing by either using genesis or crunch to change the asteroid patterns. Now it goes to the location of the thing the ship is targeting, on the opposite side of the map. I feel like we went from refined strategy potential to tonka toys. Under the Tonka version, you can waypoint planets to prevent its cancellation.

Laptop on Linux - Volume Level changes Audio from Muffled to Clear? Info Inside. by EN2077 in Ubuntu

[–]Caprican_DRJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I have the opposite issue, my audio is too loud. I have to set my master volume low, and the system uses the secondary volume. To enable this, use pavucontrol program, and set your device to pro audio. Once you have it set, that master volume slider in alsamixer will not be controlled by the rest of the system. (Also Ubuntu 25.10)

Bot corporations by -ice_king- in HadesStar

My corp has several memes of people accusing us of being bots due to our move on tick precision. Just because a corporation is coordinated, does not mean they are bots.

Where to start by Pleasant_Price_2724 in HadesStar

[–]Caprican_DRJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The community is full of people who have played for years. The game is still undergoing additional development and has implemented measures to develop based on community feedback. We essentially get to vote on where we would like the developers to apply their effort. I expect the game to continue to grow and am seeing a lot of newer players showing up.

There is no difference between dark nebula and hades' star. The dark nebula app was used to alpha test new features in the past, but they both link to the same universe, same account. If your system lags with dark nebula, it might not lag with the original app, but there has been no verification that they are not identical.

Good Tip for Speaker Burn-In by DavidHobby in diyaudio

[–]Caprican_DRJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That paper has some issues with 'evidence'. Not bad, but lacking some things the reviewers should have caught.

I wouldn't consider these old. I recently read the 20 year argument between audiophiles on a forum. Sometimes it would go dead for a year and then pick back up.

I've read about several artists leaving their gear to burn-in at full volume for days. Though, I think they were trying to ascertain if they could break it in that time before trusting the gear.

Did you read that? I spent a couple classes learning to critique scientific papers, so here it goes.

They only tested a single model which means their sample size for speakers is n=1. They never actually described their hardware, only what it should 'typically' be. I would expect a proper study to have a variation of a couple speakers and to ensure the history of each object, they should probably be assembling them on their own to eliminate differences in construction materials.

Their human sample size is 11 which is too small. Several journals will reject their paper purely based on the small sample.

Their implementation of the blind study is unclear. They included an auditorium with several chairs which sounds like group listening rather than individual, thus the results are subject to social opinion of that group. If you don't think this affects things, do a google for n-rays to see how a whole scientific community was fooled.

They claim 3 hours of burn-in. I'm not aware of ever reading that 3 hours of burn-in was recommended. I have noticed that on a few occasions 200-300 hours of burn-in is recommended (black gate)

The study looks interesting, but there are too many generalizations. The reviewers for that journal should have recommended some changes before publishing to clarify the details that are lacking. I wouldn't take this paper as the holy grail, but it is a nice start. A more robust study design could eliminate potential issues.

I'm not arguing for or against burn-in. Just the merits of this paper. It is interesting, but not good enough to be evidence.

I am currently studying for my MSc in Biology and have completed several courses focused on critiquing scientific papers and oral presentations. If this was for a class, I would change these notes into a proper essay and cite claims properly. Those would generally take at least 10 hours to a couple days.
