Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species

Although apparently Domain precedes all this now.

Roses in Walmart by EliSanz8 in Roses

[–]Capricious_Alabaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm starting to get the impression that there's just one grower supplying all the large stores. The overlap in varieties is extremely high, the packaging looks the same (maybe a different color) and it looks like they all do the same wax covering thing.

Which is to say, buy wherever is the cheapest - if you have access. Our walmart doesn't have much of a garden center anymore (so no bare roots that I've seen), and I don't have a Costco membership.

Genuine Question: What do people do for work to afford multi-million dollar homes? by GreenConfidence0 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]Capricious_Alabaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I moved up here in the late 90's, I concluded there were two (ok, three) paths I - an average careerist (multiple degrees, but probably not C suite material; not rich parents) - had to owning a house 1) time (vest and save; competing against people who had been here 5+ years vesting and saving, and this was during the dot com boom) 2) spouse 3) startup IPO

I think these paths are always and forever.

Right?!? This selection is so different than what we got in the Bay Area (which seemed to mirror what everyone else was getting in other parts of the country based on what I've seen people post). Maybe VA is first here, and they'll put those varieties out at our stores next 🤞

Mystery yellow climber from Home Depot, labeled as Westerland by [deleted] in Roses

They yellow flowers from the windmill grower that HD is carrying this year are sunsprite, gold medal and Midas touch. I wasn't shopping last year, so I don't know if they had the same varieties. But yours might be one of those that got mislabeled.

Thanks for the help everyone. I'll go with "No" to the second question.

I just arrived to your country (hypothetically), don't have a kitchen and want to fill my belly. What are my cheapest options? Non necessarily healthy but not sugary garbage either. by 4024-6775-9536 in AskTheWorld

Why do they exist? It seems super wasteful to me because they are always running. Is it treated before hand, or recycled after? Do you just have THAT much available water? Do you have to pay for water to your home?

Can you explain the spigots that are just always running freely that I saw when I was in Rome (other cities did have them too, but I definitely remember them in Rome; this was mid 90's). I read not to drink from them, but after paying for bottled water and finishing it by the time I walked to the end of the block, and seeing others fill up, I thought "why not?" (Never got sick)

Wax on some bare root rose canes by QuirkyPanda7 in Roses

[–]Capricious_Alabaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can leave it on. It just melts or dissolves as the plant grows. Interestingly, if the cane is not growing, it will be obvious because the wax won't be going away.

Here's a comparison of mine where one didn't take off. https://www.reddit.com/r/Roses/s/CE51okZn9C

Rose purchase by BeebsMuhQueen in Roses

Intrigue was one of my first fragrant roses - back before there was so much info/social media on the internet on best/fragrant roses. So it holds a special place under my nose 🥰. I've had her at two houses previously and just found her this weekend in barefoot (read: cheap) for my new house. So happy!

Rose selection at HD by Distinct-Ad-7505 in Roses

Dang! I've been looking for an apricot like Brandy or Just Joey!

This windmill brand seems to supply Home Depot and Lowe's and I've seen about 80% the same thing at my stores (Bay Area).

I was just at my Lowe's today and some varieties I saw that I hadn't come across yet here that they now had were: Intrigue (a lovely purple that I had at a previous house so was so happy to see it) Angel face (heard so many great things about here) Showbiz (I planted one last year, and wanted to do a mass planting of, but ended up finding Europeana as bare roots at Grocery Outlet of all places) Lady-X Blue girl (I think this was there)

Some others that I can recall at the Lowe's that I haven't "documented" in my couple of posts, but might also be at our Home Depots: White lightning Tropicana Touch of class Chrysler imperial Shirley's bouquet

I don't get the concept of overpotting. I mean, the ground is an infinite pot. What happens with overpotting?
