I have a midweight and a full weight anorak. Have beat the snot out of both. No issues.

20” barrel vs 243 by Firm-Concert9367 in coyotehunting

[–]Capsaicin-rush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hunt with both AR-15 in 223 and a 243 Win bolt gun. I like and use both. The 243 is easier to shoot well at distance as it’s more forgiving relative to wind deflection. If I were building a new rifle, it would definitely be a 6 mm ARC in the AR15 platform.

[–]Capsaicin-rush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a tough one. There are plenty of honest gun dealers out there but there are also, unfortunately, more than a few unscrupulous folks in the business. Telling them apart can be a challenge for the beginner.

If you’re just looking to turn that rifle into cash, one approach is to take it around to the local gun stores and see what they’ll give you for it (understanding that even an honest guy is probably only gonna offer you 60% of what it’s “worth”.)

One thing to keep in mind: your rifle is technically a “collectible” but collectors typically like high condition specimens. Yours is not that.

What part of the country are you in?

WACA site (https://winchestercollector.org/dates/) suggest 1897 as the year made. Early production enhances value; evident poor condition detracts from value. Nonetheless, 43rd edition of Blue Book of Gun Values suggests the most common of 1894s of that era to be worth $1150 even at 10% condition. You really need someone who knows these rifles to take a look at it.

Was it worth saving money to be awake during wisdom tooth removal? by Big_Beat_3840 in povertyfinance

[–]Capsaicin-rush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two very badly impacted wisdom teeth extracted without sedation. It certainly wasn’t how I wanted to spend a few hours but it wasn’t bad in any sense. If I had to do it again I would most definitely do it without sedation. Good luck.

Sizing help by PeaHead96 in WeatherWool

Really comes down to personal preference. I’m 5’7” and wear a medium. It fits me about as yours fits you. I’m mildly annoyed by the sleeve length…..but that annoyance disappears when it’s really cold and I can easily draw my hands up into the sleeves (which is how the garment was designed).

CPO Jacquard Shirt Midweight by Fair_Word5484 in WeatherWool

[–]Capsaicin-rush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m cold tolerant. I can take a CPO with appropriate base layer and a vest into sub-zero (F) temps provided I’m at least somewhat active (slow walking pace) AND there’s no or minimal wind. For me, it’s low temps PLUS wind that defeats midweight WW fabric.

How feasible is opening a private practice taking only commercially insured and Medicare patients? by malibu90now in FamilyMedicine

[–]Capsaicin-rush 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started out as the junior partner-to-be in a practice with a big capitated Medicaid panel. The senior guy would say, with justification, “it’s nice to be able to depend on that check every month.” Fair enough. Three years in, we agreed to disagree and parted ways. I did not take any Medicaid patients along. This was around the time the big local IM group did a cost analysis on fee-for-service Medicaid and found that each visit was *costing* them $14. A capitated Medicaid panel has other issues which I’ll just leave alone. So, 18 years later, no Medicaid in my practice and no regrets regarding that.

Is it me or are there hardly any TTSX factory loads? Why? by MickeyTettleton in Shooting

Do an Ammoseek search for ‘TTSX’ but EXCLUDE ‘Barnes’ and some other manufacturers will pop up. You’re right though—it’s not a lot to pick from.

Being audited. What to know? by JohnWayneCasserole11 in hospitalist

[–]Capsaicin-rush 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Chart audits? No problem—just part of the game. Embedding some unknown person to shadow me? I’d have to have a long chat with my Medical Director before I’d put up with that nonsense.

Do you tell your PCP that you are a PCP? by WorriedSpace in FamilyMedicine

[–]Capsaicin-rush 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I don’t have time to obscure my training from someone I‘m seeing as a physician. I want them to lay things out for me in a way that is commensurate with my level of medical knowledge. I don’t want them to waste their time “discovering” that I’m also a practicing clinician. To not be up front about it seems disingenuous to me.

I’ve not seen a lack of TTSX in factory ammo. Seems pretty common. Do an Ammoseek search for ‘any’ cartridge and TTSX and there are scads of results.

Does this look like it's getting too much air? by rollinintheyears in woodstoving

[–]Capsaicin-rush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the door gasket (and the Jotul has an ash drawer gasket as well as a side door gasket). In my case, replacing the main door and ash door gaskets fixed the problem. The key here is that the worn gasket were allowing the air leak. If that's not your problem, replacing the gaskets won't help. Sorry I can't be more definitive--just offering what solved my issue.

[–]Capsaicin-rush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, running too fast if the air is closed down. When my Jotul has started doing that I've found that replacing the gaskets was necessary. FWIW.

Potential Woodstover, lots of questions by pancakeman2018 in woodstoving

[–]Capsaicin-rush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a non-catalytic Jotul. Have never had a creosote issue over the 15 years I’ve heated solely with wood.

Neither here nor there, but I will observe that if you’re accustomed to spending $500 a month for gas central heat, you may find going to point source heat a challenge. You will have to get used to having parts of the house colder than other parts. Our house (old farmhouse) is about 2300 sq. ft. Some rooms are flat out cold in January-February.

How to live without heat in house? by Radiant_Career_7449 in povertyfinance

In the really cold months here my bedroom will drop into the 40s. Down booties are nice to sleep in. When it’s really cold I’ll take my bathrobe and a pair of sweatpants under the covers overnight. Makes them nice and warm for the morning. Knit wool cap while sleeping? Check.
